OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, Our Lent starts! This season is a time of grace and purification, but only if we allow it to be. In order to help us, I have begun preparations for the homilies of this season to focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Gospels speak well each Sunday to a portion of the Sacrament - Examination of Conscience, Conversion, Confession, Contrition, Confirmation of forgiveness. I hope that through this series, we will grow in appreciation and use of the Sacrament. This weekend, with the temptation narrative, we reflect on the reality of sin. We might be tempted to think that because we don t commit large sins, that we have no need. The reality is that we are sinners. If Jesus, the Son of God, can be tempted by Satan, so too can we. But we do not have that divine nature that allowed Him to remain united to the Father, so we give in. Too easily, we run after things we think will satisfy us, that will give us fame and glory. We sin. We hurt and sometimes even break relationship with God the Loving Father, who created us to be perfectly united to Him. So we need to examine our Conscience. We might use the commandments, the beatitudes, the works of mercy, the list of the virtues, to prompt our memories to see where we have sinned. Last week, with the regulations of Lent, I choose not to write about the Works of Mercy, and as it was, we are entering the Spiritual works of mercy. The first is to instruct the ignorant. This is not only for teachers or parents, but for all of us to help others understand the will of God especially in faith in morals. It is not to simply set up a soap box on the corner and spout moral truths, but more to live these truths out. It is to illuminate the truth when the ignorance is revealed. We must do so in love, however. In Christ, Fr. Todd J. Petersen ================================================================= WEEKLY SCHEDULE February 14-21, 2016 1st Sunday of Lent, February 14 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 10 AM Mass (+Bill & Betty Westerman), St. Peter 10 AM Faith Formation Preschool-Gr 1 11:00 AM Coffee & Donuts, SH 3:30 PM RCIA Rite of Election Cathedral, New Ulm 7 PM LifeTeen, Social Hall Monday 8 AM Mass (+Jim Seitzer), Chapel No Bible Study Offices closed.
