Rev. Bogdan Milosz, Pastor 14025 E. Twelve Mile Road Warren, MI 48088 586-772-2720 FAX: 586-772-5576 EMAIL: stfaustina@comcast.net WEB PAGE stfaustinawarren.org Established July 1, 2013 DECEMBER 2, 2018 FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT OUR MISSION STATEMENT We continue the work of Jesus Christ and help everyone seek and experience the love and mercy of God. Fr. Bogdan s Corner Once again, we approach the first season of the New Liturgical Year Advent, that begins today and ends December 24 th. This year we have 23 days to get ready for Christmas. I don t want my parishioners to lose the spirit of Advent. During Advent, we prepare for and anticipate the coming of Christ. We remember the longing of the Jews (Patriarchs & Prophets) for a Messiah and our own longing for, and the need of forgiveness, salvation, spiritual strength, and a new beginning. Traditionally, we are involved in many churches activities and programs to get ready for the Nativity. This year I would like to encourage you to reflect on the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) especially when she discovered her call to be the Mother of the Son of God. She pondered, meditated and questioned How is it possible? Why did God offer to humanity His Son? God did this to amaze us. In our preparation for the Nativity, we must become amazed with God coming to us in our human flesh. How beautiful and great our flesh is with all the organs, instincts and bones. By giving human flesh to Jesus, our flesh is sanctified and dignified. We must take care of our flesh during this season of Advent. Fight obesity, get more rest and detach yourself from abusing your mentality through advertisements. Become a radical Catholic and decide for yourself how to celebrate Christmas. Rid yourself of this connotation that Christmas is a time for shopping and an opportunity to boost the economy. Not at All. Be radical. Christmas is about a new beginning with Jesus, whom we must place in our hearts, minds, homes, schools, market places, streets, communities, etc. Christmas is a time to relate to two natures of Jesus: the human and the divine. As Jesus is going to grow, so with Him we must grow too. Advent is a time to prepare ourselves for this growth with Jesus. At our time there is not much need to care for our human nature, for our human intellect but for the divine nature and divine intellect. Do not miss this opportunity. Every Wednesday of Advent, at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, I am going to celebrate a Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin and in the homilies, I am going to talk about the divine intellect of the BVM. Before the Mass, when people are saying the Rosary and the Divine Chaplet, I suggest not to have all the lights on in the Church. The Church should be a little dark for those saying morning prayers to focus on their prayer and on Christmas have the experience of coming from darkness to light. On December 12 th we will look on the BVM of Guadalupe and ask her intercession for us in our Advent Journey. During Advent, I will be approaching you before the weekend Masses to join me in the procession with the Advent candle that this year is a little different. I hope you will be generous toward upcoming Christmas decorations, and I hope you will be proud to bring your guests to a beautifully decorated church. The decorations are one of many ways to pass on the Christmas message. Remember December 8 th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There will be a Vigil Mass on December 7 th at 7:00 p.m. and on December 8 th at the 9:00 a.m. Mass. The 4:00 p.m. Mass will be the Second Sunday of Advent. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered at St. Martin de Porres Church on December 14 th at 7:00 p.m. for the people of our Vicariate. I hope that you will attend since there will be many priests available. May God continue to bless your Advent Journey. Fr. Bogdan

PAGE 4 THE GIVING TREE Just a reminder! Gifts for the Giving Tree must be returned by Sunday, December 9 th. The gifts will be packed up after the 11:00 a.m. Mass and delivered the following day. The reason we deliver these gifts so early is because the organizations we deliver the gifts to need enough time to unpack, organize and distribute them before Christmas. Be sure to place the ornament SECURELY on the wrapped package. If the gift is personal care items, for Image of God of Nativity of Our Lord, the package does not need to be wrapped. Just place it in a sturdy box or bag. Please place all cash gifts and gift cards in an envelope, so it will not be lost. They can be dropped off at the office or put in the collection basket. Thank you, The Christian Service Commission Also, you need not be a member of the Commission to join in the Christmas spirit. Anyone interested in helping us pack up gifts is more than welcome to come after the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, December 9 th to help. Music Ministry Meeting There will be a Music Ministry Meeting on Tuesday, December 4 th at 7:00 p.m. in the church. Anyone interested in learning more about, or being part of Music Ministry at St. Faustina is welcome to attend. This includes singers and instrumentalists. If you have any questions, please contact Matthew Zinser at mzinsermusicdir@gmail.com, or call (586) 772-2720 (X106). Stewardship Thoughts As we begin this holy season of Advent, we should consider taking inventory of our lives. In today s Gospel from the evangelist St. Luke, Jesus tells of the signs associated with the end times. For faithful disciples, though, Christ reassures us: But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand. In other words, stand firm in your faith before the Lord when He comes again in glory and power. St. Paul reminds the Thessalonian community, and us, that our Lord strengthens us to love God and one another - to be blameless in holiness before Him. Faithful stewards acknowledge that expressing evangelization through stewardship as a way of life deepens our quest for holiness. As we prepare for Christ s birth, avoid the busyness of the holiday season by making time to read Scripture daily and attend Mass frequently to receive Holy Communion.
PAGE 5 Advent Challenge Schedules for December are available on the bulletin board in the Sacristy. If you can t make an assigned time, please try to find a substitute. If you can t find someone, then call me. There is a need for lectors for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We need two lectors on Christmas Eve at 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and one for Christmas Day at 10:00 a.m. Please let me know if you can read at one of these Masses. Sometime this week, find an extra 15 minutes of quiet time to just rest in God s presence. Don t speak. Just place yourself in God s care and let God touch your heart. Spend time reflecting on what obstacle, large or small, has been preventing you from saying yes to God in some aspect of your life. Thanks for what you do! Judi Moroni (586) 751-1706 Living Rosary The Living Rosary for December will be celebrated on Thursday, December 6 th after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. PAGE 6 Advent The season of Advent starts the beginning of a new liturgical year, which is a church year. Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and ends on December 24 th which is Christmas Eve. During this time we should prepare our heart and mind to welcome Jesus at Christmas. Advent has several characteristics: hopeful longing, joyful expectation, and prayerful preparation. Spiritually we should look forward to the coming of Jesus into our hearts as the Holy Spirit draws us into a deeper relationship with Him. The next religious education classes for grades 1-8 are on Monday, December 3 rd at 6:00 p.m. It will be a large group session about Advent so each student in grades 1-8 must bring an adult with them to class. The next Confirmation class is on Monday, December 3 rd at 7:30 p.m. God Bless, Sandy Acord Growing Faith...Engaging Hearts Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Schedule for the weekend of December 9 th If your name is not on any of the lists, please contact Robert Rossi at (586) 558-7167 Saturday, December 8 th 4:00 p.m. Mass Diane Apfel Margaret Bloom Mary Lou Krzyminski Joannie Matiyow Sandy Powers Linda Reiterman Renee Warrick Sunday, December 9 th 8:30 a.m. Mass Br. If you ve ever been in the hospital, you know how alone you can feel even when family visits. Well, there are many patients who have no family to visit them. One of the best parts of being a Spiritual Care Volunteer is that you are the link between the patient and the outside world. You may bring them the Eucharist, you may pray with them or you may just listen to them. Whatever you do, you re letting them know they are important and cared about. If you or someone you know might be interested in this ministry, we encourage you to look into it. Sometimes we just don t recognize our own gifts from God. You will be trained and then work with a current volunteer who will go with you to visit patients until you feel comfortable to go on your own. The hours you volunteer depend upon your own personal time schedule and availability. Due to hospital regulations a TB test and background check are involved before you receive your ID badge. If you are interested, please contact Lead Chaplain, Leon Roman or Chaplain Elaine Babbish at 586-573-5018. Thank you.
