Saint Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church and School Community Our Mission Statement Saint Martin of Tours is a Roman Catholic Community bound together by the gift of faith in Jesus Christ, as we join Him in offering thanks and praise to God the Father through the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. Molded by the Word of God and nourished by the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation, we are sent to seek out the lost, bind the broken, feed the hungry, and to share the Good News of God s mercy and love for all. We welcome all people of goodwill to join us in building here on Earth the coming Reign of God and so to offer to people of all ages continued formation in our Christian Faith. The Most Holy Trinity May 27, 2018 Pastor s Note Fr. Bob, A life consecrated to God and others There is a priest with silver hair and a great smile who says the early Mass each Sunday. A man of God, a man of his people. He has for many years given to others the best of himself. Like a good Jesuit father, he will do everything for the major glory of God. (AMDG). What Fr. Bob has done here in St. Martin's is just a little part of what he has done for the community of San Jose and for the whole church in the world. And there are no words to express how much we appreciate his service, his devotion, and his example. You know that his Masses and Homilies are short, but his work is lifelong. He has in him an example that to mark the life of others, we don t need too many words, but we need the right ones. There are a few words that will remain with us from him. He continually repeats: keep up the good work. Ironically, he is the one who is doing the good work and has being doing it for many years. For that we are grateful. For those who know him from Bellarmine, you will remember when he use to run, later jog, and now walks, and in every lap he will cry out Go Bells. I wish and pray the each one of us always has his enthusiasm, his spirit of understanding and his dedication. Thanks, Fr. Bob, for all you have done for St. Martin s community and for your example of consecration to God and to others May the Lord continue to bless you and the life of every one you have touched. He shows us that: Being a disciple means being constantly ready to bring the love of Jesus to others, and this can happen unexpectedly and in any place: on the street, in a city square, during work, on a journey. One example is that we will provide fresh produce only--canned fruits and vegetables contain so much sugar and salt that they can contribute to an unhealthy diet, so we plan to eliminate all canned fruits and vegetables. We will also eliminate canned soups and packaged dinners, based on high sodium content. We would appreciate donations of canned tuna, salmon, or chicken, peanut butter, whole -grain pasta, whole-grain unsweetened cereal, and whole beans. Also, please encourage our food-insecure neighbors to attend our Food Box program-- all are welcome to receive food. Contact Karen with questions or concerns at (408) 410-3222 or kguldan@gmail.com. Faithful Departed: John Mulligan Mary Peterson Village House Corner www.smvillagehouse.org We are over the half-way mark, and we have nothing but gratitude for the many friends who have donated time, energy, and money to this program. We hope that new and existing volunteers continue to check out the open volunteer positions on our Signup page, which can be accessed through the website, then click on "Sign Up as a Volunteer." Our special need remains on the Overnight shifts, which are on-site from 9pm-12:30am, 12:30am- 3:30am, and 3:30am-7am. It's a peaceful way to spend a shift! Quiet time to read a book, catch up on Facebook, or meditate! We need at least one female on each of these shifts, so please consider signing up. Other volunteers opportunities are also still available-- sign up for cot moving after Sunday night mass, preparing part of a meal, or laundry. There is something for everyone! Please contact Daniel at (408) 289-9608 or dvalcazar@stmartin.org for more info. Faith Formation Corner We are now celebrating the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The Trinity remains one of the most amazing and challenging mysteries of our faith. If the Trinity is a mystery, does that mean we no longer need to make efforts to grow in our awareness of God s being? The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is therefore the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the most fundamental and essential teaching in the hierarchy of truths of faith. (CCC 234) So how do we grow in our understanding of this truth? We can read excerpts from the Catechism, but we can also pray to each member of the Trinity. Many of us naturally pray to one member of the Trinity, so what if we tried praying to the Holy Spirit instead of Jesus or to Jesus instead of God? We are still praying to the same God, but God may provide us with grace that helps us to grow in our understanding of how the Trinitarian relationship functions. As you prepare to pray, ask God if there is anything God wants to reveal to you through one of the members of the Trinity and wait a moment to see how God responds. If you have a question or comment, please email Daniel or Megan. If you have a question or comments, please email Daniel or Megan.
