"When the song of the angels is stilled, when the star in the sky is gone, when the kings and princes are home, when the shepherds are back with the flocks, then the work of Christmas begins: to find the lost, to heal those broken in spirit, to feed the hungry, to release the oppressed, to rebuild the nations, to bring peace among all peoples, and to radiate the Light of Christ, every day, in every way, in all that we do and in all that we say. Then the work of Christmas begins. -- Howard Thurman, adapted 04 l St. Leo Catholic Church

Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, We hope you all had a very blessed Christmas and we pray that you have a wonderful stat to the New Year. We are so excited to let you know that we will be having our Pre- Kindergarten Round-Up for 3 and 4 year olds and our Kindergarten Round- Up on Saturday, February 2, 2018 at our school. We will be sharing more information on start times in the coming weeks about both Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Round-Ups, but for this week and next week s bulletin, we wanted to share some great responses to some questions we asked our Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten students and teachers. I also want to thank Mrs. Becky Sluyter, one of our amazing assistant principals, who interviewed these students and staff members on why they love St. Pius X / St. Leo school. This week, we will include in this bulletin the responses from our Kindergarten students and teachers with next week s bulletin including our Pre-Kindergarten students. Enjoy! What do you learn in Kindergarten: We like to read books and do all kinds of stuff. Every time we read a book we do a project to learn about the character. Bryce What is your favorite part about your teacher?: That I learn from her Kaliyah; Because she hugs us when we need a hug from her. Liam Why should kids come to our school?: You get to learn more stuff and spell stuff. You get to learn to be a fifth grader. You learn to be a fourth grader and to be a grown up. You have to learn to be a grown up. Like 10+10=20 Bryce; You get to learn. Be nice. Follow rules. Keep your eye on the target. Keep your dear friends happy. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat Liam; Because it s really, really fun! Kaliyah What is your favorite class or subject to teach?: My favorite class to teach is Literacy. The kids are so eager to read and LOVE learning new letters, sounds and words on their way to becoming readers! Mrs. Hanna What is your favorite part about being a Kindergarten teacher?: My favorite part about being a Kindergarten teacher is being one of the first teachers that really lays the foundation for the rest of their academic career. I love being able to really teach them the basics of learning, the foundation of their religion, and about how to be a great student and wonderful friend. Miss Peitzmeier At the end of Kindergarten, I hope my students will..: At the end of kindergarten, I hope that my students have a love of learning. I hope that they keep exploring the world, keep asking questions, and be the unique individual they are. I hope that they remember to keep sharing God's love and to be kind. Most importantly, I hope that they remember I am always here for them. Mrs. Swift Any other information you want to include...: I think that there are amazing schools in Omaha, but there is something special about St. Pius X/ St. Leo School. We truly are a diverse community, forming students in the Catholic faith. Every single teacher at our school wants the best for our students and it is evident as you walk down our hallways and hear the amazing teaching going on. I can't imagine teaching anywhere else. Mrs. Swift Cory Sepich, Principal St. Pius X/St. Leo School If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-yearold programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for this school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ren when you decide to come to our school. In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman The Christmas season we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a time to reflect on the greatest gift of all, our Savior, who came into the world to redeem us. A time to reflect on our God, who took human form as a defenseless baby. A time to reflect on the life of Jesus and how Mary and Joseph taught him how to live his life and practice the faith. As we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family today, we must remember that Mary and Joseph had struggles just like all families do. Jesus as a baby, needed to be changed, fed and cared for just like any child. Jesus, probably fell down, scraped his knee or bumped his head like any child. Mary and Joseph comforted him and loved him. Joseph worked very hard and taught Jesus to be a carpenter. Joseph or Jesus may have built furniture, but it could have been construction work. Mary was the home maker. She cooked, cleaned, sewed for Joseph and Jesus. Joseph and Mary taught Jesus about God. They helped him understand the faith and taught him the scriptures. We see a glimpse of their life together in our gospel. Jesus was left behind, but He was beginning to understand his role in his life, as he listened and asked profound questions of the teachers in the temple. Jesus was obedient to them and advanced in wisdom, but the lessons he learned from Mary and Joseph helped him become the person who healed the world. They taught him compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, love, and forgiveness. Let us follow Mary and Joseph s example and do the same.
