From the Desk of Fr. Mike McGovern, Temporary Administrator THE NATIVITY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST In the liturgical year, the Church celebrates three births: the Na vity of our Lord (Dec. 25), the Na vity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sept. 8) and the Na vity of St. John the Bap st (June 24). Today as we celebrate the birth of St. John, we recognize him as the last and greatest of the prophets. John's en re voca on was to be "a voice, a voice which called people to repent and prepare the way of the Lord. May we hear the voice of John calling to us again today, and may we respond by opening our hearts and souls completely to the Lord. NEXT WEEKEND Please note that next weekend. Fr. George Koeune, the new Pastor, and Fr. Michael Grzesik, the Associate Pastor, will begin their service to Our Lady of the Lakes Parish. As you welcome them, please remember that they will do their best to get to know you by name. I encourage you to keep introducing yourselves to the priests for the next few months. Learning names is important and some people learn names faster than others. There is a lot here that will be new: a new parish name, new priests, and a new schedule for liturgies and sacraments. Please be pa ent and encouraging as it may take some me before things gel. Thank you. VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD AND CONSECRATED LIFE As the merger of St. Bede and St. Peter takes place, this is a moment to thank God for the blessings we have received in our parishes over the years. I also encourage everyone that, as we par cipate in the Renew My Church process, we foster a culture where voca ons to the priesthood and religious life are encouraged. The Church needs good priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters all of whom come from families. My hope is that this period of transi on will result in a strong parish for the people of An och, Ingleside, Fox Lake and surrounding communi es, as well as serve as a catalyst for voca ons. Please pray daily for an increase in voca ons. In our Lord, Father Mike McGovern 2 The Nativity of St, John the Baptist June 24, 2018

JOHN THE BAPTIST Since June 24 falls on a Sunday this year, the Church has the opportunity for a more intense celebra on of the birth of John the Bap st, who is o en described as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the bridge between Judaism and Chris anity. More commonly, John is known as the precursor of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the Gospels report John s basic message: Repent, the kingdom is near at hand. One greater than I is coming. Though he was a wandering preacher who dressed in camel skins and ate grasshoppers, John s legacy is one of true royalty. His origins are similar to those foretold by God through the prophet Isaiah: You are my servant, he said to me, Israel through whom I show my glory (Isaiah 49:3). John s humility I am not he was surpassed only by that of his Lord Jesus, the humble servant who followed. St. Bede Church Ingleside, IL 11
