PETER S PENCE COLLECTION In the second collection today, we are supporting Pope Francis in his charitable works. The Peter s Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims or war, oppression, and natural disasters. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the collection is an opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. Please be generous in today s collection. 2 nd COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND Bishop Checchio has authorized a second collection to assist in the relief and rebuilding efforts in Louisiana and Central Italy. I am aware, the Bishop said, of the many requests that are directed at our generous parishioners for both local and national causes. Adult Faith Program Sacraments: An encounter with God and with the Church Join us as Fr. John Gloss leads us to gain an understanding and appreciation of the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church This adult faith course is an introductory overview of the theology of the Sacraments, the public, liturgical prayer of the Church. Each of the sacraments will be discussed within the context of its role in the lives of the faithful, initiation into God s life, healing and reconciliation, and service to God s community. 3 Sunday Evenings - Sept 25 th, Oct 2 nd and 9 th 6:30pm to 8:00pm Register before Sept. 20 th - Mail to: adultfaith@sjvs.net or call 732-548-3880 Adult Faith Program The Case for Jesus: Biblical and Historical Evidence for Christ Join us as we investigate the evidence on whether we can trust that the Gospels are accurate recordings of the Life of Jesus Our Catholic faith is based on the belief that the Gospels tell the true story on the words and deeds of Jesus of Nazareth. But how do we know this is true? Join us as we look at the internal and external evidence to uncover what is the truth, who are the real sources for the gospels, when were they written, did Jesus claim to be the promised Messiah and the Son of God, why was he crucified and what is the evidence for the resurrection. 3 Sunday Evenings - Oct 16 th, 23 rd and 30 th 6:30pm to 8:00pm Register before Oct. 8 th - Mail to: adultfaith@sjvs.net or call 732-548-3880 YOUTH MINISTRY Greetings and Blessings!! VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY The August Poor Box contained $1,879.00. Thank you for your generosity and on-going financial support. A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly I am grateful to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me trustworthy in appointing me to the ministry For that reason I was mercifully treated so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example, by those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life. The jubilee Year of Mercy is quickly coming to its close. The word today is a clear reminder for us of God s tender compassion and inexhaustible mercy. Luke 15 is referred to as the chapter of mercy relating the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son, opening the way for the forgiving Father. Paul s gratitude for the mercy God has shown him, can be our prayer as well. Pope Francis constantly reminds us, that we who have known mercy are better able to extend mercy to others. Today, September 11th can be a moment of mercy and forgiveness for all the hurts we have experienced. Today, can be a moment of gospel forgiveness to be offered to others.
