A Message From Our Pastor Three years ago I shared with our Family of Faith that I believed God wanted us to pay off our existing debt. Three years later, I still believe that. Why? First, simply stated, we need to be able to respond to any ministry God leads us to in the future. We don t want the debt to be a hindrance and place limits on us. God has opportunities for us in the future that we don t know anything about right now and we need to be free to seize those opportunities when God presents them to us. Our Prayer Request We asked God to bless us with the ability to pay off our existing debt of just over six million dollars in six years. This is important because we want to do the ministry God asks, respond to the opportunities God gives, Three years ago our church family responded in a very positive way to this vision and we committed ourselves to paying the debt of $6.2 million off in six years. That vision was bigger than us. It still is. We can t do it on our own. That s why we started praying for God to perform a miracle. Faithful members of First Baptist have given sacrificially in the past to get us where we are today. Our history indicated that over six years we might be able to pay off close to $4 million of the $6 million debt, but the only way we could pay off the entire $6 million was for God to give us a miracle. take advantage of our current low interest rate, and be good stewards by paying less in interest. A second reason is because we have a low interest rate of 3.49% that is fixed until January 5, 2020. On that date we will need to refinance the remaining debt and we don t know what the rates will be then. They are already higher than our current 3.49% rate and most people expect the rates to continue rising. It makes sense that we do everything we can to pay off as much of the debt as possible before we have to refinance. Doing so will mean we pay less in interest. It is being good stewards of God s money. In this brochure you ll read more specifics about the campaign, the debt, and reasons for paying off the debt. That information is important. Before we get to all that, I want to share with you a story from my elementary school years that will give you some insight into my heart. Article Continued on Back Cover

Our Journey God has led First Baptist Church on an amazing journey the past 20 years. It all started when our church was located in downtown Rock Hill. We had outgrown our facility and parking. We had a vision for continuing to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. To fulfill that vision, God led us to relocate to our current location on Dave Lyle Boulevard. Our journey included purchasing this property and two phases of construction. The time line below summarizes our journey and the financial investment at each step along the way. Congregation celebrates vote to purchase Dave Lyle property Purchased Dave Lyle Blvd Property $1,356,413 1996 TIMELINE 2004 Phase 1 Construction/A&E Costs $11,487,958 Purchased Garrison Road House $52,500 2005 View from Dave Lyle of Phase 1 construction 2007 Phase 2 Construction/A&E Costs $4,803,285 TOTAL COSTS $17,700,156 Ground breaking for The Rock, Gym, & Office Building

Our Debt God has been faithful to First Baptist Church and blessed us during our 20-year journey. The debt has been reduced significantly and our goal is to finish paying off the debt. To achieve this goal, three years ago we started praying for God to do a great work among us. We asked God to enable us to pay off the debt in six years. At that time our debt was just over $6.2 million. Today our debt is just over $4.2 million. Praise God! That is a reduction of $2 million dollars in three years. Our Reasons for Aggressively Paying the Debt Our Plan Three years ago our plan was to conduct two capital campaigns, each lasting three years. The first campaign was called Six In 6 and it wraps up at the end of February. The second campaign will be called Six In 6 Pt.2 and it will run March 2018 February 2021. We will talk about it in February and make our giving commitments on February 25. Our past experience indicated we would be able to raise about $4 million over six years if God s people continued to sacrificially give at a level similar to what we ve done previously. Six million dollars in six years would require a great work of God. He would have to bless us with a miracle. That is exactly what we are praying will happen. We don t know when or how He will answer our prayer. What we do know is that God is faithful and we will continue praying and moving forward. 1. 2. 3. 4. It is good stewardship. The longer we take to repay the debt, the more we will pay in interest. Additionally, we don t know what the interest rate will be in 2020 when we would need to refinance. It is likely to be higher than what we enjoy now. We will be able to direct more money towards those ministries and missions that are making a difference in people s lives. It gives us the freedom and flexibility to respond to unknown opportunities God will give us in the future. It s time. God has given us this great interest rate and the opportunity that comes with it for more of our payment to go to principal. Our Progress Glory to God the first campaign was successful and we reduced our debt by $2 million. That was the goal. Now it s time for the second campaign, Six In 6 Pt.2. This campaign and God s answer to our prayers is how we re going to finish paying off the debt. Did You Know Every dollar given to our capital campaign goes against principal. That s right not one penny of the campaign donations pays interest. Our annual budget covers the monthly interest on our loan.

Our Kingdom & Community Partners God has blessed us with an amazing facility where we worship and do Bible study each Sunday. That blessing extends beyond First Baptist Church. We are part of God s Kingdom and partner with other ministries, some of whom use our facility to hold their annual fundraising banquets. These banquets help them raise a significant portion of their ministry budget. Some of our ministry partners who use our facility are: Palmetto Women s Center (Crisis Pregnancy Center) Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) The Gideons Grounds of Grace (Christian Women s Job Corps) Children s Attention Home ROC (Renew Our Community) York Baptist Association South Carolina Baptist Convention We also partner with several non-ministry groups in the area because we want to be a blessing to our community and strengthen relationships. We want to be good neighbors. While we can t host every group or event in the area, here are some we do host: MLK Prayer Breakfast Police Memorial Luncheon City of Rock Hill MLK Interfaith Prayer Breakfast Carolina Community Action Rock Hill School District Annual Police Memorial Luncheon Family Trust Federal Credit Union NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness) Strengthening Families Program Community Job Fairs Senior Helpers

Our Partners Say Thank You I can t tell you what other venue and what other opportunity we have in Rock Hill that brings us together more to better reflect Christ s love than to come to this [MLK] breakfast every year. John Gettys, Mayor of Rock Hill What a blessing it is to have First Baptist Church open it s doors to so many community affairs. It benefits not only Rock Hill but York County and our entire state. Ralph Norman, United States Congressman It can be a challenge to find an affordable, quality space to host larger events. First Baptist Church welcomed us and worked with us to make our annual fundraiser the best yet! Their support made it possible to raise incredibly valuable funds to give our children a safe and nurturing home. Katy Motsinger, Children s Attention Home A Month of Fasting Fasting is a spiritual activity. It is abstaining from food while focusing on prayer and seeking God for a specific reason or need. You are encouraged to choose one day each week in February to fast. Ask God to move mightily in our church and make a way for us to pay off our entire debt. Pray6 We have been praying for God to enable us to pay off our debt of $6 million in six years. Starting in February, we are designating the 6th day of each month for the next three years as a day of prayer. Join us on February 6 and each month thereafter in praying for a miracle.

You You matter. What you do matters. You make a difference. You are part of us part of our family of faith called First Baptist Church. We can t do this without you. You are asked to pray. You are asked to seek God on behalf of your church and God s will for your life. You are asked to give. You can be part of this miracle! How to Make Your Commitment Step One - Pray Pray individually and if you are married or have a family, pray together with the ones you love. Ask God to guide you through the process. Pray for wisdom and faith. Use the daily Prayer Calendar in this brochure. Ask God to take you on a spiritual journey which reveals His will for your commitment. Fast once a week in February so you can hear God s voice. Step Two Ask Yourself Ask yourself what amount of money, over the next three years: You want to give You believe God could provide for you to give After you decide on those numbers, ask yourself the following questions: Am I joyous about giving this amount? Is my gift sacrificial? Am I demonstrating faith in God with this amount? Am I convinced that I can give this amount with a thankful heart and in a spirit of genuine worship? I/We believe in the vision of paying our church debt so we can respond to opportunities God will give us in the future and be good stewards by paying less in interest. After prayerfully seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I/we commit to stepping out in faith and pledging to give sacrificially to our Six in 6 - Part 2 Capital Campaign the following amount over the next three years. My/Our Total Three-year Gift Amount Will Be $ Step Three Decide 5,000 4,000 Signature: Date: If you are married: Set aside time with your spouse to discuss Your commitment is your best understanding at this moment of God s 3,000 will for your life. The amount of your pledge may be changed at any the amounts that each of you feel you would like to give, based on 2,000 time by contacting the church finance office or during our annual campaign celebration and renewal. 1,000 your prayers and personal time with God. If you agree, then thank God and look forward to submitting your commitment card on February 25. If you are not able to agree on your gift amount, repeat the above process. Be patient with one another and genuinely listen to each other. If you still do not agree, then choose the lower number as your gift. Pray and give God thanks. Prepare to present your commitment card on Commitment Sunday. If you are single: If you were able to answer yes to the questions above, you are ready to make your commitment on February 25. If you were not able to answer yes to those questions, then repeat the whole process until you are able to comfortably answer yes. Pray and give God thanks. Prepare to present your commitment card on Commitment Sunday. Step Four Commitment Card Bring your commitment card with you to worship on Commitment Sunday, February 25. Join your brothers and sisters at FBC in bringing your commitment card to the altar and placing it in the Chest of Joash when the Pastor invites the congregation to come forward. Continued From Front Page Article Each year I looked forward to Field Day, an annual event involving all our elementary schools. Students from each school competed in various outdoor athletic events, with those finishing in the top three winning ribbons. This particular year I competed in the 400 yard dash. I ve never understood why they called it a dash we weren t that fast. When I made the final turn toward the finish line, I was in fourth place. Runners behind me were not close, so I knew fourth was the worst I would finish. But I was tired and I lost hope, so I quit. As I stood watching the runners in front of me, the one in third place stumbled and fell about 20 yards short of the finish line. If I had continued running, I would have placed. I would have won a ribbon. That was 50 years ago and I still regret my decision that beautiful spring day. When it comes to debt and capital campaigns, we ve been running a long race. The finish line is in sight and it will feel so good when we cross it. The only way to cross the finish line is to keep running. The only way to pay off this debt is to keep giving and keep praying for God to perform a miracle. Pastor Steve Hogg
