All are Welcome! TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The achievement of the late 1960s and early 1970s in enriching the "euchology" or "words of thanksgiving" available in the Church's prayer is important on many levels. Ecumenically, it means that the Latin Rite now reflects the wealth of the East in having more than one prayer available to the Church. Pastorally, it actually acknowledges the place of the assembly in prayer, which is particularly clear in the Masses with Children. In fact, the traditional prayers of the Eastern Church served as models for our new prayers. In the East, what we call the Eucharistic Prayer is called the anaphora, and there are three main families of anaphora. Each family has a different "recipe" for arranging the usual parts of these prayers. All anaphora have "intercessions" included, but the Churches of Antioch place them toward the end of the prayer, Alexandria prefers them at the beginning before the "Holy, Holy," and Syria puts them at the very end. One branch of the Syrian family is unique in not mentioning the words of Jesus at the Last Supper. The Roman Canon we once prayed exclusively has some connection with the Alexandrian family, but once the signal for creativity was given, all the wealth of every prayer tradition was on the table, and our Sunday Mass has been greatly enriched. -Rev. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. TIME TO SIGN UP!! ALTAR SOCIETY BRIDGE FLIGHT It is time to sign up for the 2017 Altar Society Bridge Flight. St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Four Sunday, July 30, 2017 A WORD FROM THE PASTOR A priority which emerged from the Heritage and Hopes parish gathering last September was the need to develop more opportunities for you as parishioners to deepen your understanding of our Catholic Christian faith and to strengthen your spiritual development. One significant step we have taken! As a parish, we have subscribed to a dynamic new online resource called FORMED. Every parishioner, at no personal cost, will have a 24/7 unlimited online access to transformative video-based study programs, audio presentations, movies, CDs, and e-books. You can receive these on any device, including your computer, smart phone, and tablet with Internet access. You can even stream these to your TV. FORMED empowers our parish with life-changing tools for sacramental preparation, Bible study, youth ministry, adult faith formation, RCIA, marriage and family life, and more! We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these opportunities that you can experience at home, including faith-based family movies for inspiration and enjoyment. Here is how you access these valuable resources: 1. Go to your Internet browser 2. Go to Formed.org 3. In the middle of the page click on REGISTER 4. New page appears: enter 3PJQTF and your email; then click GO 5. New page appears: Follow the prompts. After reading and accepting the terms and conditions at the bottom of the page click on SUBMIT. After registering for FORMED, subsequently to access it all you need do is click the light blue LOGIN in the upper right-hand corner and follow the prompts. You cannot please both God and the world at the same time. They are utterly opposed to each other in their thoughts, their desires, and their actions. - St. John Vianney DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND DONOR ENGAGEMENT St. Vincent Parish and School are seeking a Director of Development and Donor Engagement. This person will be responsible for all fund raising aspects of the Parish Community with specific responsibilities for a major capital project and planned giving. Please forward your resume to Connie Pacanovsky at Connie@StVincentChurch.com or call Ted Walter at (330) 814-4289 for additional information. ST. VINCENT de PAUL YOUTH GROUP If you are entering sixth, seventh, or eighth grade, we welcome you to the St. Vincent de Paul Youth Group! Here s the first opportunity to join the fun! She may be on vacation, but will accept registration though July 31 st. Great way to collect service hours for school! FAMILY PERSPECTIVES The Gospel tells about a man who found a treasure and sold all he had to possess it. Today Jesus tells married couples and parents to TOTALLY INVEST in the real treasures in our life: our Faith, spouse, children and grandchildren. Marriage is not a 50-50 proposition, and parenting is not a part-time job.

St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Five Sunday, July 30, 2017 ATTENTION ALL C.Y.O. COACHES AND PROSPECTIVE COACHES, ALONG WITH SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS AND TEACHERS, P.S.R. TEACHERS, OR ANYONE WHO WORKS WITH CHILDREN IN OUR PARISH ON A REGULAR BASIS According to the Diocese of Cleveland a Volunteer is anyone who works with children, without any express or implied promise of remuneration, more than (4) hours a month or who works with children more frequently than once a month. Examples include, but are not limited to, a catechist, coach, choir director, altar server coordinator, youth leader, interns, student teacher and others in similar capacities. It does not include the occasional volunteer, such as a driver or chaperone for individual activities. The Diocese requires that ALL attend a VIRTUS class and be certified by a diocesan facilitator. In an effort to complete this requirement, Saint Vincent de Paul Parish is offering a VIRTUS session on Saturday, August 19, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Scullen Room. If you think you will be involved with our youth this year, please register for this session by going to www.virtus.com and following the instructions given. In addition, all MUST have a background check every five years. If you have NOT had a basic background check done, and would like to complete this process ahead of time, you may have go to any facility that offers a BCI background check. Please have the results sent directly to the parish to the attention of Ellen Dies. Unfortunately, there is a fee for this service. The diocese is revamping their efforts regarding the background checks for those who have already had a background check done and results are here on file. More details will be following. And finally, two documents must be read, and an acknowledgement form must be signed, dated and on file in the parish office. These two documents can be found at: http://www.clevelandchildprotection.org/website/pdf/ PolicyfortheSafetyofChildren-June2016.pdf and http://www.clevelandchildprotection.org/website/pdf/ StandardsofConduct-June2016.pdf PLEASE NOTE: No C.Y.O. credentials will be issued unless all parts have been completed before the start of any season. Our children are among our greatest treasures. We know that Jesus cherished the children and He commanded us to do the same. The Catholic Church strives to nurture the gifts and talents of our youngest members, guide their formation, and guard their safe passage at all times. Safety is absolutely non-negotiable in our parishes, schools, (and all Catholic) agencies and institutions throughout the Diocese of Cleveland. If you have any questions regarding the above, please contact Ellen Dies in the parish office at 330-535-3135 X101 or email her at ellen@stvincentchurch.com. Please ask yourself To be a coach or volunteer and working with the children of our parish, you MUST: 1. BCI check 2. VIRTUS Training 3. HOT MEALS Once again St. Vincent de Paul Parish is providing the meal for the working poor and homeless held at St. Bernard Church on Wednesday, August 23. Please help us feed these 250 plus members of the Akron area. There are two ways to help. First, consider making a donation to offset the food purchased for the meal. Cash or check donations made payable to St. Vincent de Paul Church, marked on the envelope, "Hot Meals", may be dropped in the collection at any Mass. Second, come and work the meal with us. You must be 14 years of age or older to help serve. We are looking for volunteers to help us 4-7 p.m. Minors must be accompanied by a parent if it is their first time working. VINCENT PRAYER & SCRIPTURE STUDY TEAM Meet on the first and third Mondays in the Scullen Room at 7 p.m. for the Scriptural Rosary and Bible Study. All are welcome! "Saying the Hail Mary and the Rosary: Those who accept this devotion should have a great love for the Hail Mary, or, as it is called, the Angelic Salutation. Few Christians, however enlightened, understand the value, merit, excellence and necessity of the Hail Mary. Our Blessed Lady herself had to appear to men of great holiness and insight (St. Dominic)...to convince them of the richness of this prayer." From The Secret of the Rosary by St. Louis de Montfort.
