Bambinelli Sunday Dear St. Ann Families: The blessing of baby Jesus figurines is celebrated each year in St. Peters Square with a special blessing by Pope Francis. The tradition, called Bambinelli Sunday was started by St. Pope John Paul II to take place on the third Sunday of Advent, or Gaudete Sunday. I think it is best summed up by up by Pope Benedict in 2009: Sign up for Advent Reflections at stannpv.formed.org. Ready your heart for the coming of Christ. The blessing of the Bambinelli [Baby Jesus figurines] as they are called in Rome, serves as a reminder that the crib is a school of life where we can learn the secret of true joy. This does not consist in having many things, but in feeling loved by the Lord; giving oneself as a gift for others and in loving one another. As we examine the crib, we will notice that Our Lady and St Joseph do not seem to be a very fortunate family: their first child was born in the midst of great hardship. Yet they are full of deep joy, because they love each other and they help each other. They are especially certain that God, who made himself present in the little Jesus, is at work in their story. And the shepherds? What did they have to rejoice about? This newborn Infant was not to change their condition of poverty and marginalization. So where does their rejoicing come from? Their faith helped them recognize the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger as a sign of the fulfilment of God s promises for all human beings, with whom he is pleased (Lk 2: 12, 14). You are invited to bring your Baby Jesus figurines on Sunday, December 16th and place them on the communion rail for a blessing at Mass before placing them in your Creche at home. With a promise of prayer, Fr. Craig Page 3 St. Ann Catholic Church

They made fleece wraps that are going to our homebound parishioners and others in need. Fabric bags were made to fill with candy from the St. Ann School Act of Kindness Halloween candy drive, as well as hand-made Christmas cards for the troops and homebound. The photo is of Andra Tenn, a social worker at Wilhelmina Gill Service Center. The center is located at the St. Mary s Food Kitchen in Kansas City, KS. The service center is the social service arm of the food kitchen to help those same clients with emergent needs, and to get back on their feet. The Fidget Group was honored to make those gifts to their clients. SCAM Alert! Thanks for the Clothing Donations Over the past several months, fake emails have been sent out to parishioners stating they are from our Pastor and in most cases asking for money. Many other parishes in the area have experienced the same. Please disregard these emails! It has been brought to our attention from surrounding Johnson County parishes that fake phone calls and texts are now being used to scam people! We are unaware of this affecting us at St. Ann, but we want you to be aware. Please disregard any request via email, text or phone call asking for assistance coming. If you have questions contact the parish office. Clothing donations from the parish and school. were delivered to El Centro social service agency on December 1st for distribution the following day to local families served. Thanks to parishioners who made donations and to those who helped sort, pack and transport the clothing. As before, special thanks to John Latenser, who donated boxes, and Paul Madden, who provided a commercial truck for delivery of clothing. El Centro staff sincerely thank St. Ann for the great generosity over the years. Page 4 St. Ann Catholic Church

Hail and blessed be the hour and the moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen Page 6 St. Ann Catholic Church
