Minh Vu will Recite The Rosary 10:30 a.m.~ Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Church May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we have for you. 1 Thessalonians 3:12 Love is contagious. Joy, gratitude, generosity, and service flow from love. So it is with stewardship. The U.S. Bishops teach us: Christian stewards receive God s gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others.
First Sunday of Advent Jer 33:14-16; Ps 25:4-5, 8-9, 10, 14; 1 Thes 3:12 4:2; Lk 21:25-28, 34-36 Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise Luke 21:31 It was an ordinary day. I asked three monks if I could take their picture. One of them asked, Why do you want a picture of us on such an uneventful day? I thought for a few seconds and replied, Because I won t be able to get this photograph tomorrow. Augustine, one of the monks and our Abbot, said he would have to remember that line. Advent is a time when we are asked by the Church to awaken from our drowsiness and be alert, be watchful. This is a season that comes around once a year. It is an opportune time to rouse our oftsleeping hearts and ready ourselves for the Lord. These days are a reminder to live as best we can for this one day for we will not have the chance once it is past. Fr. James Stephen Behrens, O.C.S.O, Living Faith, Terence Hegarty, Editor

First Sunday of Advent Marriage Moment Spouses, even very loving spouses, sometimes need a Do Over. When you catch yourself (or you are caught) saying or doing something hurtful, be humble enough to ask for a Do Over. Apologize. Rephrase your statement in a more sensitive way, make an amend. Parenting Pointer Teach your child some Latin. In Latin advent means something is coming. For Christians, it points us to the coming of Jesus at Christmas. It s not here yet. We have to wait for it. Talk about how you wait for relatives or friends to arrive. It s hard to wait, but you shouldn t hurry it by celebrating before the guest s arrival.
