Dear Parishioners, A NOTE FROM FATHER Our deepest sympathy to the families and friends of Dolores McDonough. May she rest in peace. This Thursday is the feast of All Saints, a holy day of obligation (see the calendar for the schedule of Masses). It is a day to honor all the saints - those known and unknown - who are aiding and praying for us on our continuing journey that we may one day join them. We are certain that there are more unknown saints than canonized, and so this day gives us the chance to celebrate them. Even just considering the recognized saints, they are all over the spectrum - from rich to poor, kings and queens to day laborers, eloquent and profound to simple and quiet. What unites them and defines them as saints is none other than Jesus Christ and their response to His love. And He invites us to be saints, too. It is not just a future hope that we may be saints - it is for now, that we are already saints responding to His love. Friday is All Souls Day, a day to remember the souls in purgatory who are still going through the purification to enter into heaven. It is not a second chance to salvation, but rather a time of purification. God in His mercy gives this hope. The people that die in His grace but with disordered attachments (where have we heard that lately???) are given this state to find freedom and release. Again, we should be aiming for heaven, to live as saints already there now, freed from the attachments of this world, or at least seeking freedom. But thank God for this place of purification. While we have breath, we pray for those in purgatory, aiding them toward freedom, and they aid us, too. In Christ, ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND/LITTLE ANGELS NEWS We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. www.churchofstpeter.org/ji 507.931.2810 The students brought in over $7000 for our Marathon this year! This is an amazing amount of money for our small school community! Thank you for your support and donations! Some traditions are worth continuing year after year, all school prayer services and birthday blessings! We are a school readiness program focused on faith and service which nurtures the whole child embracing individual talents and abilities in a welcoming, caring, and safe environment. 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time 3

PARISH NOTES: 1. Today, October 28, has been chosen as ad ay to honor our priests. Our priests play an indispensable yet mysterious role in mediating the sacred, of witnessing to the extraordinary in the special, yet ordinary moments of everyday life. How often do we really get to know our priests, and how often do we thank them for all they give us? Without the priesthood, there would be no Eucharist, and without the Eucharist, there would be no Catholic Church. Let us remember to say thank you to our priests often for all they do for us, and especially let us remember to pray for them every day! 2. CHURCH OF ST. PETER Mass 101 - A Walk Through the Mass Have you ever wondered why we do things the way we do at Mass each Sunday. Fr. Mike Schmitz has a 60 minute DVD presentation of the Walk through the Mass. Come and dig a little deeper into the Mass. This video will be shown on 3 different evenings: Oct. 25 at 6:30 pm at St. Peter's Oct. 28 at 7:00 pm at St. Peter's Catholic Watchmen Gathering The Catholic Watchmen is a movement calling men to be protectors, providers and leaders of their families and parishes. Through regular gatherings, men will come together to join in this mission to protect their families through dinner, fellowship, learning, and prayer. Our first gathering will be on October 29th from 6:30-8:30pm. Deacon Mark Kober will be speaking about being a Catholic man following the example of St. Peter. All men of our parish are invited to the event. Future gatherings will be on January 28th and May 6th. Catholic Daughters Thanks to all the CDA members who donated and worked the Salad Luncheon. You came through with lots of salads and desserts. Thanks to all those who attended the rosary on CDA Sunday and to Kim Kaveney for handling the Gummi Bear project. Our next meeting is November 13th beginning with a Mass for deceased members at 6pm. Next regent outing is November 18th. We need your help One of the great services a parish offers as a Christian community is to help the grieving family by providing them with a venue and a meal following the funeral Mass for friends and relatives. It is a way to express solidarity with the family as well as a way to show Christian love and concern when one of our own is suffering a loss of a loved one. Though we have many volunteers who prepare and serve the meal, we are in need of others to provide salads and cakes/bars for these meals. Without these donations by friends, relatives, and parishioners, it becomes necessary to purchase ready made products adding to the expense for the families. Please consider doing these food items when you are able. It is greatly appreciated. All Saints Day Mass October 31-5pm St. Peter November 1-8:15am - St. Peter November 1-6pm - St. Paul All Souls Day Mass November 2-8am -St. Peter Book of Remembrance During the month of November remember your loved ones by signing the Book of Remembrance. It will be on display for you to sign in the Narthex. Growing Together in a Stewardship Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Do you think you can go and receive Holy Communion week after week and get no value? Have you ever stood in line to receive Holy Communion, your mind wandering, and before you know it you are back in the pew? The Holy Eucharistic is your living Christ. He is alive. He died and rose from the dead for us, that is, for each and every one of us. When we receive Holy Communion, Christ is offering again the perfect sacrifice for us. When the priest says the words Body of Christ, he s not talking about Christ on the Cross. He is talking about the living Christ that you are about to receive. And when you say Amen, you are saying that I believe and am ready to receive the living Body of Christ. We should be amazed. Christ should be the center of our life. Do you believe this is true? Shouldn t each of us believe this is true? How can you help others be more aware and realize this is true? If God gave you the talent to be devout, if God gave you the talent to have a nice warm smile, if God gave you the spunk to dress appropriately and show up when scheduled, then you should consider being an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time 5
