The first International Eucharistic Congress owed its inspiration to Bishop Gaston de Ségur, and was held at Lille, France, on June 21, 1881. More than 50 have been held, and are currently scheduled every four years, most recently in Dublin (2012) and the Philippines (2016). Many dioceses hold similar annual gatherings. For example, in Atlanta, GA every year, more than 20,000 Catholics attend the local Eucharistic Congress. This is, in part, our inspiration for Hearts Aflame. Our hope is that it will be a joyful gathering of Catholics from every corner of our diocese! Hearts Aflame will be held on September 22, from 9am to 3pm, at the Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville. All in the Diocese of Albany are invited to attend. St. Michael's has reserved a bus for those who do not want to drive. Please contact Kathleen Burns for registration information (518) 428-6353 or (518) 237-5151 ext. 5.
