I want to thank all those who came out to help in our programs: 3 Lenten Fish Frys, our successful membership drive, two 1st degree ceremonies, preparation of the Church and grounds for Palm & Easter Sundays, staffing the Good Friday services and the Easter Vigil services. A gracious thanks was received from the Parish Administrator for our services. I will be in Boston until April 22, to support Br. Steve Swortz s wife while she runs the Boston Marathon. We are proud of her and will be leaving the state on the 13th so I will not be here for Council Meeting night and the 3rd degree that we are hosting. DGK Bob Estrada is in charge and due to the fact that we have so many candidates for 2nd degree on that same night at Queen of Heaven, he is cancelling the Council meeting and asking our knights to attend that ceremony at 7:30PM. Please come and support our new knights as they elevate to the second degree. Please read the bulletin for important business that will have to be taken care of at the May meeting, including election of officers. If you would like to nominate someone or run for an office, please talk to FS Woolery who is chair of the nominating committee. There are other important things happening. Come in May. Vivat Jesus! COUNCIL #4322 NEWS (Minutes of the meeting are being added as pages 5&6; please read them and bring questions and comments to meeting. Minutes will be considered at meeting and approved with additions, deletions, corrections, etc.) Please read over news items and be prepared to discuss and approve at our May meeting. It is important that you attend the meetings to vote on the issues. 1. Election of officers: Nominations can be made at the May meeting for officer positions up for vote. FS Woolery is appointed by Supreme Knight and does not stand election so he is nominations chairman. Nominations known at this time will be Swortz for GK and Liloc for DGK, Kowalski for treasurer and Fr. Red for Chaplain. We need a Recorder (Bob Kaiser is moving to Wisconsin), Chancellor, Warden, Inside & Outside Guards, Advocate, Lecturer and a new Trustee for 3 years. Please consider becoming an officer or nominating someone else to lead our Council for the new fraternal year which will begin July 1. Most important is that you attend the meeting to elect your officers. 2. Brian Woolery is presenting a proposal to conduct a raffle as a fundraiser to raise money for operations. He proposes we print 3,000 tickets to be sold at $2 each with a grand prize of $1000 and several other prizes. Each member would be mailed 10 ($20 worth) or 20 ($40 worth) tickets to sell or buy themselves. WA. State law requires us to account for all tickets so members would be responsible for them. Drawing date would be set prior to buying tickets as required. It would raise about $3000 dollars for our funds. Additional information will be presented by Woolery and questions answered before a vote is taken for approval. 3. We also engaged in another fundraiser to sell ONE NATION UNDER GOD decals and need to distribute them to our knights to sell for $3.00 each, to support awareness of the movement to take the words one nation under God out of our Pledge Allegiance to the Flag. Please buy some and sell to your friends and neighbors to show their support to keep the Pledge as it has been since 1954. 4. Resolutions submitted for changes to State constitution and laws will be presented to we can select our Council s positions on them to give guidance to our delegate to the State Convention. DGK Estrada will be attending for our Council. A vote will be taken at the meeting on these matters. 5. Considering upcoming summer events. Our District will have a picnic on the 4th of July and SFC Knights march in the Steilacoom Town Parade. Do we want to have a dinner at our July meeting which will be our officers installation and GK wants to make award presentations at that meeting also. Will we have a Council picnic in August? Jointly with our Assembly? Site? Menu? Other business for summer. Approval of expenses for our Council participation in Summer Training Meeting in July. 6. New assignments for contacting or reaching out to our members whom we do not get to see. This is a follow up on the program DGK Estrada started earlier in the year. We would like to reinvigorate the program as it is lapsing somewhat. We will be trying to develop some sort of tracking system to record the contacts and get the news. If you contact the members on your list, give us a brief report please so we know how they are. We are a fraternity so let s contact our brothers. Please come to the meeting and let us know what your thoughts are. Let s get active in KC matters. Grand Knight Thanks to ALL who Helped! I want to thank all our brother knights who have come forward and helped with our projects during this busy season. Thanks to Eddie Liloc, Wayne Hogan, Bob Warren, Larry Villagracia, John Hansen, Bill Kowalski, Michael Werner, Sisay Telehun, Dave Davis, Bob Estrada, Bob Kaiser, Brian Woolery, John Klein, Larry Klein, Rick Holmes, John Forrest, Marc Huynh, Greg Koch, George Mounce, Fr. Red, Carlton Spuck, and James Memerto. These knights helped with Fish Frys, Holy Week services, cleanups, parking lot patrol, supply shopping, cooking, food prep, church set ups, member drives, etc. It is heartening to see the increased participation of our knights. I would also be remiss if I didn t mention the family members of our knights who helped also. My wife Judy Swortz, Katie Holmes, Margaret Davis, Elaine Kowalski, Chona Liloc, and my son Jim, wife, Erin, and grandson Rees and Larry Villagracia s grandson, CJ. Also Zoila Gamboa and two unidentified Parent Club members.

FOURTH DEGREE NEWS FATHER VALERIAN GRUBB, OSB ASSEMBLY #1844 APRIL MEETING CANCELLED DUE TO PROXIMITY DATES OF COUNCIL (2ND DEGREE & 3RD DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATIONS. Our Assembly met on March 19th at the Oakhouse Restaurant. We had several 3rd degree members in attendance to recruit them into the 4th Degree. Br. Robert Kaiser is planning on joining the 4th at the May 9th Exemplification at St. John Bosco. Welcome, Bob We also had a guest speaker from the YMCA. Ms. Watasha McDuffy, Health and Wellbeing Director at the Y s in Pierce and Kitsap counties. She related how she got involved in the Y health programs and St. Frances Cabrini Church. She explained that the YMCA in Lakewood has many programs for seniors to care for their health needs. She would be happy to meet with our knights and spouses on a personal meeting to discuss how she and the Y can help us Be Healthy. She welcomes all to come to the Y for a tour and explanation of programs. Her contact number is 253-584-9622 or 253-460-8909. FN Liloc will try to organize a visit to our sick brothers in the upcoming months. If you know of anyone who needs a visit, please advise Eddie at 564-1759 or 228-1759. He gave a reminder to those who haven t paid their 2015 dues, that it is important to support out Assembly and the functions we do. We do not have fundraising and dues constitute our only revenue source. FN Liloc noted that elections are coming up in May and asks for nominations for officers. Robert Estrada is a nominee for Navigator, Swortz for Comptroller, Warren for Purser, Fr. Red for Friar, Dorfner for Scribe, and Kowalski will automatically move to 1 year Trustee and Pavone to 2 year Trustee. We will need nominations for 3 year trustee, Admiral and Captain positions. Be sure and attend the May 21st meeting for the elections. THE FAMILY OF BROTHER ROBERT W. ESTRADA COUNCIL: 4322 LAKEWOOD WASHINGTON MEMBER: ROBERT W. ESTRADA MEMBERSHIP NUMBER: 3851287 SPOUSE: MARGARET CHILD: MARIE ESTRADA- HARRIS FAMILY OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH, 2015 Robert and Margaret are responsive to calls for help and support at Council functions and programs. They are active in their church and community, particularly in areas of charity. Robert is a big supporter of Habitat for Humanity, working for several years as a director of their resale store. He picks up food several times a week from local stores and delivers it to food banks and rescue missions. He is a court appointed advocate to look after the best interests of children who are abused or neglected. He attempts to insure that the child's medical, social and educational needs are met. He and Margaret take foster children into their home and care for them until they find a home. This month they took in their 39th child. They are dedicated to children in need, as well as their own grandchildren. They are most deserving of this award. The text above is the form submission to Supreme for Family of the Month. Br. Estrada s family has also been submitted as Family of the Year to our State Council to be placed in contention for Family of the Year of the State of Washington which, if selected for State Family of the Year, will be submitted to Supreme as National Family of the Year. It is my belief that their activities in all areas are exemplary, especially in the care and welfare of children, and certainly qualifies them to be Knights of Columbus Family of the Year. Please keep them in your prayers that they will be successful in all their charitable acts, and God will bless them for their missions.

Council 4322 Minutes Date: March 10, 2015 GK Swortz called meeting to order at 1900Hrs. Rosary was recited before the meeting; pledge was recited and roll call taken. Warden s report was made, a quorum noted and DD John Forrest was in attendance. Minutes were approved as read in the newsletter with one question regarding state per capita fee. Admissions report showed that we signed up a prior member and a transfer from another council and we have one new member awaiting 1 st degree ceremony which was tentatively scheduled for March 24, following our membership drive. Membership was approved for new knights. GK s Report: The Grand Knight recognized Richard Holmes with the Shining Armor Award for his outstanding participation during his first year, which saw Richard achieving his 4 th degree while also bringing on a new member, Mr. John Hansen. We received approval for a membership blitz on the 21 st and 22 nd of March, and have placed info in the bulletin. We will need volunteers to assist in handing out Knights of Columbus information. The DGK asked for clarification on appropriate attire/distinguishing insignia and displays for the membership drive, and the GK stated we will refine our approach prior to the drive but do need some time to prepare/set up. Our Fish fry effort began this Friday: the GK needed an assistant Thursday to assist in purchasing supplies and needs someone to eventually assume the leadership role for the Fish Fry as he is expected to be out of the area next Lenten season. The GK identified additional assistance needed for the Fish Fry ad will continue to pursue sufficient helpers via email. We ll also use the Fish Fry Fridays as a recruiting opportunity. Treasurer s report was given and approved. Copy of the report will be filed with the minutes in our Minutes Record book. Receipts and voucher documents were reviewed by GK and approved. Bills and Communications: We received perpetual mass list for month from Mount Angel. We received a letter from the State Council outlining events at the upcoming State Convention. Robert Estrada is our 1 st Alternate; Brian Woolery is our 2 nd Alternate. We also had correspondence from One Nation Under God still on hand. The Financial Secretary stated we may have had an issue with our order for One Nation Under God bumper stickers and receipt of our payment to Council (#4196); however, the Treasurer and he worked afterwards to resolve the documentation. Financial Secretary s Report of Receipts: completed Chancellors Report on Vocations: Eddie Liloc reported that RSVP money was received from Columbian Club and check to seminarian Kyle Mangloña will be sent. Supreme rebates $100 after check is cashed and report filed. GK will write letter with check. Report of Committees: The DGK Robert Estrada questioned whether the RSVP responsibility ought to move to the Vocations instead of the Church Director will need to resolve this still. Apparently the Supreme Database of Fr. Red s birthday is incorrect; K of C was listing 2/28/48 as his birthday but it actually is 1/1/49. FS will resolve. The Friday Fish Fry during Lent is an ongoing program for this month as well as the Family of the Month. Also, the DGK submitted a letter to Fred Myer requesting that our Council receive the same store and dates next year for the Tootsie Roll Drive. Fred Meyer granted us permission and we will conduct our drive at Fred Meyer s this coming October 30 and 31 st. Discussion occurred about our ability to raise for money for a different organization other than Special Olympics; but the GK pointed out that most of our donations fund the annual Special Olympics event held on JBLM. Church Director Liloc is chairing 40 Days for Life with our knights attending 2-4PM on Sundays at 14 th & MLK in Tacoma to pray to stop abortions. Family: Congratulations to the Wayne Hogan family for selection Family of the Month submitted to Supreme. Membership: GK announced Membership Drive will be March 20-22 and requested knights to be on hand at all masses to help. GK will give pulpit message at masses.

Unfinished Business: (1) The SFC School 6 th grade request for a bus by Mrs. Larsen was discussed. The SFC Parish now has a bus and they ll use that for transportation, so we will provide our approved donation of $500.00 to assist the cost for unfunded students instead of funding the bus. GK will request funds from Columbian Club. (2) We will tentatively plan Tuesday, March 24 th for our 1 st Degree Ceremony at approximately 1920 hours in the evening. We had several members obtain their 2 nd degree recently but we still need to schedule our next 2 nd degree ceremony. If we cannot coordinate or certify a team in our district, there is one planned at Our Lady Queen of Heaven on April 14 th. We do have a 3 rd Degree Ceremony scheduled at St. Frances Cabrini on March 18 th ; and there is a 4 th Degree Ceremony scheduled in Puyallup on May 9th. (3) Elections: (3) We will have elections in May, but need to establish a nominating committee to identify candidates for officer positions. Brian Woolery appointed Chair. New Business: none at this time Fourth Degree News: 4 th Degree Knights sponsored the Breakfast for a Buck this past Sunday, which was very successful in that we have two potential new Knights interested in joining. District Deputy Report: John Forrest thanked us for our improvement over the past two years. He also discussed the memorization portion for the degree ceremonies and stated now is a good time to get guys thru the cycle of their degrees. It is important to get them thru degrees early and assign new members to a committee or position so they can make a difference and be engaged. He stated we need 20 candidates in the Puyallup ceremony, and that we need to create energy in our councils in some way or another. He also congratulated Robert Estrada for his selection as our Council s nominee for the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year. John Forrest asked for followup information reference our member contact effort, which tends to flag over time so we need to reenergize it. He also stated that when we have to initiate a suspension, it really means that we have lost a brother Knight. Lastly, reference the membership drive: we are missing the 25-45 year old group and need to focus in that area. All in all, our Council is making solid progress. Good of the Order: (1) The GK received a request to support a family, which we cannot do as a Council; however, he shared the information with members in case anyone could help on an individual basis. (2) During the 4 th degree assembly it was discussed about the potential to visit some sick members. Eddie needs names of those to visit so we can call and coordinate the effort. (3) The GK provided information about the upcoming St. Patrick s Day Dinner at St. John Bosco Church. Tickets are $15.00 per person and we have several tickets still available. (4) Brian Woolery addressed an issue Eddie raised earlier with Bob Estrada reference use of funds and whether we can redistribute them. We could experience a loss of over $4,000 dollars this past year due in large part to some members not paying dues. He proposes that we conduct a fund-raiser to help sponsor our council to build up our base of funds, and prefers a cash raffle type project. The intent is that these funds would be used to maintain and build up our finances rather than distribute out as our usual fund raisers. The GK discussed that there are specific rules that guide how this can be accomplished. Brian recommends we set up a sub-committee to investigate ways to build up our council s financial situation, and acknowledges that we would need to research the legalities and by-laws of the Knights of Columbus. He will spearhead efforts to gather the initial information. (5) Pennies for Heaven accumulated $14.00 from the meeting. Closing Prayer: Prayer for vocations Meeting Adjourned: at 8:46 hrs. Next Meeting: Tuesday, April 14 2015. Submitted by Recorder Robert Kaiser
