The story of humanity is the story of falling away from God. But the story of God is...mercy. 8 Sessions to Change Your Life God formed a Covenant with our first parents. He desires a personal covenant, a covenant of mercy, with you. In Christ He has opened wide the Doors of Mercy especially for us who are weak and afraid of asking for help. Doors of Mercy: Exploring God s Covenant With You is an 8 week journey through salvation history, from God s merciful promises to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, to the prophets call to renewal, to the fulfillment of God s promises in Christ. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, explore how God makes His Mercy present to you, in ordinary and extraordinary ways. Walk through the Doors of Mercy. Your life will never be the same. YEAR OF MERCY: MOMENTS OF MERCY www.usccb.org Each month our Moments of Mercy will offer brief reflections on mercy and concrete suggestions of how we can live out the mercy that God offers us all. These are perfect for busy days since they help us to slow down for just a few minutes and think about the gifts God has blessed us with and how we can share them. April s Moment of Mercy While Lent was a penitential season, the Easter season (which lasts longer than the Lenten season!) reminds us of the joy we have in the merciful love of God. The most obvious example of God's merciful love was shown to us in the Paschal Mystery of Christ. The culmination of this Paschal Mystery, following the suffering and Death of Christ, is his Resurrection, which is our assurance that Christ triumphs over death. Not only do we rejoice in this eternal victory, we also rejoice that, through our faith and participation in the sacraments, we can share in Christ's triumph as God extends his salvific mercy toward us. The Jubilee of Mercy reminds us that God "delights in mercy" (Mi 7:18), and so should we! 1. At the end of the day, spend some time in reflection, on your own or with others, rejoicing in the love and mercy that was shown to you by God and others today. Even if you had a rough day, where did you see God's love present in your life? 2.Read through Pope Francis's letter about this Jubilee Year, Misericordiae Vultus.... Notice the different ways in which he relates mercy to the joy of living our Christian faith. Again everyone is invited to participate. Sessions will begin Thursday, May 12th at 6:30pm for eight consecutive weeks. Mark your calendar! Let Robin know if you are interested by bringing your $25.00 for your Study Guide to the parish office by noon April 15th. Registra on Parish Name Phone/Cell # Email Address I understand that my registra on of $25.00 includes: 1) my Doors of Mercy Study Guide, and 2) access for myself to Streaming Video of the video lessons The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to support home mission dioceses in the United States is by suppor ng seminarian forma on in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, because educa ng each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gi to next week s appeal and placing it in the first collec on.

Today s Readings First Reading The Jews angrily reject Paul and Barnabas preaching. They then turn their energies to the Gentiles (Acts 13:14, 43-52). Psalm We are his people, the sheep of his flock (Psalm 100). Second Reading John envisions a great whiterobed multitude standing before the throne and before the Lamb. (Revelation 7:9, 14b-17). Gospel My sheep hear my voice; they follow me. I give them eternal life (John 10:27-30). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from the Lectionary for Mass 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved. THE SHEPHERD S FLOCK In Christian art, the earliest depictions of Jesus Christ were not of his crucifixion or of his resurrection. The first known renderings of Jesus show him as the Good Shepherd, the image put before us in today s readings. In the Gospel passage Jesus reveals that he is the shepherd and his followers are his flock. In the first and second readings, we are told more about the flock. The passage from Acts assures us that both Jews and Gentiles are called to follow Jesus. It is faith, not birthright, that makes us part of the company of believers. In the passage from the book of Revelation we learn that the flock that follows this Lamb of God will also be washed in his blood. They will endure a time of trial before they enjoy eternal life. Be assured of the promise, we are told, but know there is a price to be paid. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
