THE INVOCATION THE ORDER OF SERVICE I. WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. PASTOR: We begin our Savior s worship service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. CONGREGATION: Amen! OPENING HYMN: #609:1-2 [Red Hymnal] CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SINS We come before God recognizing that we are sinful and daily need His forgiveness. P: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve Him as His dear children. But we have disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to Him and plead for His mercy. ALL: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from conception. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. P: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has removed your guilt forever. You are His own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to His will! ALL: (speaks): Amen! LORD, HAVE MERCY II. WE PRAISE OUR LORD KYRIE

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST GLORIA IN EXCELSIS PRAYER OF THE DAY P: Let us pray... through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Congregation (speaks): Amen. III. OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 2 PETER 3 1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of

ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation -- as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever.

OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. CHILDREN S SERMON HYMN OF THE DAY: #612 [Red Hymnal] But Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven. " ~Matthew 19:14 AUDIO/VIDEO IN CRYROOM FOR PARENTS WITH CHILDREN WHO NEED A BRIEF REMINDER Today s Meditation: 2 Peter 3:9-13 Sermon text underlined in Scripture Lesson Expecting and being Eager for His Arrival! THE OFFERTORY We Offer God our hearts again, praying for His Spiritual blessings! SERMON HYMN: #205 [Red Hymnal]

IV. WE OFFER OURSELVES TO OUR LORD AN OFFERING OF THANKFUL HEARTS TO THE LORD So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:7 Rejoice Always ~ N. Radichel (11.11.11) The Lord will come like a thief in the night. But you are sons of the light -not of the night. Then let us not be like others, who sleep. For He died for us so we will not weep. Rejoice always, Pray without ceasing; Give thanks always, For this is the will of God Comfort and build each other up. No matter how full or empty your cup. And let patience fill you in all you do through and through Pursue what is good as He did for you. Rejoice always, Pray without ceasing; Give thanks always, For this is the will of God He who calls you is faithful in every way, and may His Grace be with you until that Final Day FOLLOWED BY THE OFFERING HYMN: [Red Hymnal #400:1,6] Take my life and let it be, Consecrated, Lord, to Thee; Take my moments and my days, Let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my love, my Lord, I pour, At Thy feet its treasure-store; Take myself, and I will be, Ever, only, all, for Thee. SPECIAL PRAYERS ~ GENERAL PRAYER ~ LORD S PRAYER V. OUR LORD BLESSES US BENEDICTION God s blessing of His people (Numbers 6:24-26). Jay Hartmann, pastor of Resurrection Lutheran, Corpus Christi TX, has accepted the call to Faith Lutheran, Coloma MI. <> The Rev. David Schaller, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran, Dowagiac MI, has returned the call to Calvary Lutheran, Marquette MI. The congregation has now called the Rev. John Hein, pastor of Grace Lutheran, Fridley MN. Dear Members of Luther Memorial, We are now closing in on a full year of use for our new offering envelopes. So, far the system has been going very well, and everyone has adjusted nicely to the new envelopes. There were a couple of initial instructional sessions I ran through at the time of implementation, but I wanted to give a quick refresher to everyone. Below are a few highlights to consider when using your offering envelopes: 1. Please make sure you fill in your offering amount on the front of the envelope. You can separate your offering amount into multiple line items or put it all towards one line item on the envelope, but all line items should add up to the amount you inserted into your envelope. 2. You are only required to give one offering envelope per Sunday. If you put multiple envelopes into the offering plate for your own personal budgeting reasons, that is just fine. But, all envelopes are entered into our financial system for the Sunday they are given, not for the date on the envelope. 3. Be sure to check the Box at the top of the envelope if you need more envelopes. It may be beneficial to check that box when you still have 2 or 3 envelopes left, to give the church secretary enough time to re-stamp new envelopes and put them into your box. You can always see myself or Barb Haensgen and tell us in person as well. There are extra envelopes in the tract rack outside church as well. 4. If there is something you want to give to and there is not a line item on the envelope for it, please use the LM Other or Special Service line items and write in the intended fund, holiday or event. Holidays, mission festivals and special services should be written on one of these line items as well. 5. Please remember, the line items under Non-Budgetary on both sides of the envelope should be considered over and above your regular offering. We have commitments both to the CLC and our own congregation that need to be met with our budgetary offerings, and your first fruits should be applied to those accounts first. Thank you again for all your cooperation with this transition. Please feel free to speak with me directly if you ever have any questions on the offering envelope. In His Service, Eric Williams (Financial Secretary)

WEBSITE/SOCIAL MEDIA WORKSHOP - Luther Memorial is hosting a newly created, area CLC inter-congregational group to enhance all of our congregation's web and social media presence. The dual purpose of these needed updates and promotion are for furthering the Gospel and the truths of God's Holy Word, as well as providing a platform for our membership to be able to use our professional medias for personal spiritual growth, a greater mission mindset, and areas to volunteer for our Lord's service in our midst to the glory and spreading of His Kingdom. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS from your congregation to join us for an in person workshop on Saturday @ Noon, December 13th @ Luther Memorial Church (FDL). Lunch will be provided. We know Christmas is a busy time for all, but we are ALL always busy and need to continue to do a better job of getting the Word and our church's names out to our communities! Let's collectively use our talents and abilities in responding to Christ's command to "Go"! If interested in attending or being on the group email list, please email Pastor Neal at pastor@fdllutheran.com. Thank you! CHURCH CLEANERS ARE NEEDED for the rest of 2014!
