INFANT BAPTISMS Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, November 18, 2018 The Sacrament is celebrated on Sunday at 1:15 PM. by appointment only. A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Barbara Bunag at 732-257-7722. MATRIMONY The Sacrament of Matrimony requires an extensive period of preparation. Contact must be made with Parish Center one year in advance. MINISTRY TO THE SICK The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the anointing of the sick is available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please inform the parish concerning the needs of the sick by calling the Parish Office. If any member of the parish is hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office immediately so that a member of the Pastoral Staff may visit. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF OUR PARISH FAMILY WHO ARE SICK AS WELL AS THOSE MEMBERS WHO ARE SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES November 10th & 11th, 2018: $18,023.00 Dear Brothers and Sisters, The second World Day of the Poor is observed today the 33 rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. In his apostolic letter to close the Year of Mercy, Pope Francis has set aside one Sunday of the Year to reflect on how poverty is at the heart of the Gospel. In this year s World Day of the Poor message, the Holy Father reflects on Psalm 34:7, this poor man cried and the Lord heard him. The Pope challenges us to use the World Day of the Poor as an opportunity to make an examination of conscience and consider whether we truly hear the cry of the poor. This Tuesday, November 20 th, our annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints on Dunhams Corner Road at 7:30 pm. All are invited to attend this traditional Thanksgiving Service. Thursday, November 22 nd, is Thanksgiving Day. Mass will be celebrated at 9 am in the Church. Let us together ask the Lord s Blessings on our nation. Give thanks unto the Lord. Happy Thanksgiving Day. In Christ, Fr. Thomas Flapjack Fundraiser for Hailey Broehl-Saginor Please join us December 2 nd from 8-10am for an Applebee s Flapjack Fundraiser. Shortly after the birth of her second child, Hailey suffered a debilitating stroke. Weeks of hospitalization, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and intensive prayer have helped Hailey to move in a very positive direction. This unexpected and unfortunate situation has left this young family with a future of mounting medical bills. This breakfast will help to offset some of these bills. Tickets can be purchased at the gift shop or for further information and/or tickets please contact Donna Santamarina at 732-828-6981 or email at donsantamarina@comcast.net Most importantly, please join us in prayer for this young mother and her family.

St. Bartholomew School 470 Ryders Lane East Brunswick, NJ 08816 Tel. 732-254-7105 Fax. 732-254-6352 November 17, 2018 Dear Parents and Guardians and Parishioners, What a wonderful evening we celebrated with family and friends at the Basket Raffle! The event was a great success and I am grateful to all who worked so hard to prepare for this amazing event. Countless hours of work go into this and it showed. I thank all our wonderful volunteers, our emcee Pat Colligan, and our Home School Association. I am especially grateful to our chairs, Mrs. Molinaro and Mrs. Perlman, for coordinating this evening. Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, November 18, 2018 Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder (C. K. Chesterson). This is a perfect reflection of my experiences here at St. Bartholomew School. As I reflect on the many things for which I am thankful, I celebrate the amazing support of our parents and guardians for sharing their cherished children with us. I am thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn and for reminding us of what is important and why we are here. I take the success of each child personally, and I am thankful for our teachers and staff who are dedicated to our mission and our students. I thank Father Thomas and our parish for their support throughout the year. Most importantly, I thank God who showers our school family with so many blessings. I wish you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving. God bless you, Mrs. Ann Wierzbicki, R.N., M.A.E./Ed.S. Thank you also to Mrs. Ebert and our International Night Committee: Mr. Badenhop, Mrs. Olvedy, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Ortiz, Mrs. Whipkey, Mrs. Phillips, and Mrs. Boomer. It was joyful to celebrate the diversity of our school with representation by 41 different countries. The displays taught us so much and the food was delicious. Thank you to all who contributed. Our students thanked veterans by creating cards and writing letters, and several recipients called to say how much they appreciated the students thoughtfulness. Thank you to the Columbiettes for ensuring that the veterans received the cards and letters. Our teachers received part two of the series of professional development last Friday. We continue to work together to offer best practices for our students. Pre-K 3 Thanksgiving Show will take place on November 19 at 1:30 pm and Pre-K 4 will host a Thanksgiving Celebration on November 20 at 1:00 pm. Please see teachers websites for details. Thank you, Mrs. Porcelli and Mrs. Perdoni, and assistants for preparing our students so beautifully. Students who purchased St. Bartholomew Spirit Wear may dress down in Spirit Wear on Tuesday, November 20. Thank you for your support. Our annual Pig Beauty Contest and Race will also take place on Tuesday to celebrate winners of the Magazine Drive sales. It was wonderful to see so many parents/guardians during conference time. Thank you for partnering with us to offer the best education for your children. I have partnered with a consulting firm called Partners in Mission, which focuses on developing advancement and leadership in order to advance our mission and to continue to offer the best education for our students. School will dismiss at 11:30 am on November 21 as we begin the Thanksgiving celebration. A Prayer Service will be held at 10:30 am to thank God for our many blessings. Our Band and Chorus Winter Concert will take place on November 29 at 9:30 am and 7:00 pm. Please join us for this wonderful celebration. The 9:30 am concert is for students and grandparents who may not be able to venture out in the evening. Thank you, Mrs. Kinnucane and students, for all your hard work. The Advent Wreath is also a perfect way for families to spiritually prepare for Christmas. The gradual lighting of each of the colored candles each week during Advent symbolizes our anticipation and joyful hope in our Lord as we remember his birth. Families who wish to bring this custom into their home by making their own Advent Wreath are invited to join us in the Parish Hall on Sunday, December 2, 2018 after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. All the materials for the wreath and Advent prayers will be provided as well as some refreshments. Materials have been ordered for this event, so it is necessary for each family to register.
