SAINT AMBROSE CATHOLIC CHURCH OCTOBER 7, 2018 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them. Why should we study the bible? St. Jerome, a priest and Doctor of the Church, famously insisted that Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. If we are to be authentic disciples of Jesus Christ, therefore, an ongoing and ever-deeper encounter with Scripture is simply required of us. When will the bible study be conducted? The first series of study sessions will begin on Tuesday, November 6 and will run for six weeks, concluding on December 11. The next series of sessions will begin after the holidays. Stay tuned for those dates and times. What will be studied? Each week the Old and New Testament readings will be studied for the upcoming Sunday Liturgy. Thus each week is a new beginning, and if you have to miss a particular study session you will never be left behind! Successive series of study sessions will also be conducted to follow the readings of the liturgical year we will simply be studying the Scriptures along with the whole Church. How will the studies be conducted? The class will be conducted by way of lecture and collaborative conversation/questions. There will be no homework or advance préparation necessary for any session. Just show up and participate in whatever way is most comfortable for you. There is no cost to participate (please disregard earlier bulletin announcements stating that we would be using the Ignatius Bible Study book), and we will have bibles available for participants to use during each session. While the New American Bible (NAB) will be the preferred translation for our study (as it is used in the liturgy),, you should of course feel free to bring your own personal bible if you prefer, of whatever translation. We will also provide recommendations for more extensive study materials that can be pursued outside of class, for those who might be interested. Thanks and please notify me at jfragale@stambroseonthehill.com or at 314.686.9110 if you are interested in participating.

The candles in the back of church are a very important to us and a big part of our Catholic tradition. As you probably already know, they have not been functioning properly and alternatives are being looked into so the system can be replaced. We will update everyone soon as to when the new system will be installed. Thank you for your patience. Italian Consul Office Representative May come to St. Louis In 2019 There is an opportunity for a representative from the Italian Consul Office in Chicago, Giuseppe Finocchiaro, to come to St. Louis next this year to help individuals obtain Italian passports and Italian citizenship. However, we must demonstrate there are a sufficient number of individuals in St. Lois who are in need of these services. We are compiling a list of those in St. Louis who would like to take advantage of this opportunity. Appointments will be necessary. In addition, individuals must present their documentation to a member of our committee before you are given an appointment to meet with the representative from Chicago. For additional information please contact one of the following: Rio or Marianne Vitale 314.846.5802 Vincenzo DiPiazza 314.707.2429 Angelo Sita 314.781.9341 Chris Stephens 314.308.0113 Did you realize that we have been blessed with the presence of our sisters, of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in our school and parish for 77 years. The Foundress is Mother Clelia Merloni. The Cardinals and Bishops of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, recognized the miracle attributed to her intercession. This is the final phase of the process which took place in Brazil in1951 and cleared the way for her beatification. On April 10, we received the news from the Vatican that the Mass of Beatification will be held on November 3, 2018 in the Basilica of St. John Lateran, Rome, Italy. This is the Church s official recognition of her holiness. Once the person is beatified he or she receives the title, Blessed and may be venerated in the liturgical worship of the Church in a designated area.

PIAZZA IMO On June 20, 2018, the Hill Piazza committee held a groundbreaking ceremony announcing the dream of a Piazza on The Hill is a reality. The plan to build a beautiful Italian inspired piazza, in front of St. Ambrose Church has begun. An area to provide a central gathering place; an outside space to educate our children and a contemplatively spot to rest, meditate and reflect. Although we have the funding to initiate the construction of the Piazza, we must continue to raise funds to complete and maintain this new inspiration on the Hill.
