WORLD MISSION SUNDAY 2016 Celebrate the Hope that Saves Today is World Mission Sunday. We are called to this Eucharistic celebration along with Catholics in every parish, chapel and church throughout the world - to fulfill the call we first heard at Baptism, the call to be missionaries, to share our faith. Today we are invited to celebrate the hope that saves through prayer and participation in the Eucharist, and by giving generously to the collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Let us pray, especially at this Mass, for all who long to hear the hope-filled, saving message of Jesus, and for the priests, religious and lay catechists in mission countries worldwide who offer them that Good News. Blessed are the Poor in Spirit The poor man called, the Lord heard him. (Ps. 33) How often have we asked God for one thing or another and we have waited for a brief period and when we did not get it immediately or the way we expected God to respond, we simply concluded that he is not listening? Such disposition comes from how we come before God expecting him to act within the walls we have set up for him. What we fail to realize is that we limit our ability to grow in union with God with such disposition. Jesus, in the Beatitudes, says Blessed are the poor in spirt, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Mt. 5:3) That poverty is of the heart which helps us to be humble before God and to acknowledge our total dependence on him. That dependence translates into faith in the one who alone has the power to help us in all our needs. This is why the poor would simply call upon him with no condition as the psalmist tells us, knowing that the loving God would take care of their needs. This poverty of the heart was expressed by Paul and God rescued him from the lion s mouth. It was expressed by the tax collector and God exalted him. The Pharisee however justified himself before God, as he essentially showed he had no need of God. Humility is the virtue we pray to cultivate in our relationship with God that we might fully experience his grace at work in our lives. Rachel s Vineyard Retreat for Post Abortion Healing This is an opportunity to examine your abortion experience, identify the ways that the loss has impacted you in the past and present, and helps to acknowledge any unresolved feelings that many struggle with after abortion. Because of the emotional numbness and secrecy that often surrounds an abortion experience, conflicting emotions both during and after the event may remain unresolved. These buried feelings can surface later and may be symptoms of post abortion trauma. Married couples, mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings of aborted children, as well as persons who have been involved in the abortion industry have come to Rachel's Vineyard in search of peace and inner healing. The weekend is a lot of work but yields a fruitful harvest for all who are willing to labor there. Please accept this gift of healing as only our Lord can offer.
