KNIGHTS CORNER. Christ Is Risen Happy Easter. Quote From a Saint. Bishops Seminary Burse

Transcription:

April 2017 P.O. Box 338 Mesilla, NM 88046 Basilica de San Albino Council # 15578 WWW.NMKOFC15578.ORG New Mexico District 13 San Albino Knight Grand Knight s Message Jimmy Beasley For Catholics, Lent is of 40 days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving concluding with Easter Sunday. Through our spiritual struggle and self-denial, we have prepared ourselves to spiritually die with Christ on Good Friday, so that we can rise again with Him in new life on Easter. Let us continue our journey towards Easter through the sacraments of Confession and in receiving Holy Eucharist, a visible sign of our faith and our participation in the kingdom of God. Christ is risen! On Sunday, April 30th during the 11:00 am Holy Mass, we will be joining together as families in Corporate Communion. This is done in celebration of our faith in receiving the Eucharist. Corporate Communion shows our unity and fraternity within the parish and is a good time to talk with families about joining us in the Order. After the Holy Mass, we will be hosting a parish recitation of the Holy Rosary to promote devotion to our Blessed Mother. Remember, the rosary is the central prayer of every Knight of Columbus and a pillar of family prayer life. The fruits of our labors are called to be for God. They are called to be for our families. However, we are called to become even more superabundantly generous. We are called to be charitable to those whom God places in our path, especially those in need. When we are charitable to them, we are charitable to God himself: They are Jesus. Each one is Jesus in a distressing disguise (St. Mother Teresa) Council Officers 2016-2017 Grand Knight * Jimmy Beasley Chaplain * Very Rev Richard Catanach Deputy Grand Knight * Jim Maes Chancellor * Daniel Duffin Financial Secretary * Patrick Lujan Recorder * Solomon Padilla Jr. Treasurer * Carl Salazar Advocate * Chris Maurer Warden * Joe Loera Inside Guard * Geno Diaz Outside Guard * Ralph Misquez Trustee 3rd * Jim Yankovic Trustee 2nd * Mitch Dahl Trustee 1st * Sam Saenz Lecturer * Richard Portillo Excerpt from A Light to the Nations A Lenten Journery for Men By Steve Bollman Charity ~ Unity ~ Fraternity ~ Patriotism

From the Brothers On Saturday March 12th members gathered in the morning to top 10 Italian Cypress tress surrounding the Basilica. Upon completion of that work, they moved to the Basilica Cemetery and removed a very large, mostly dead pecan tree to keep it eventually falling on headstones or the cemetery fence. The acrobatics performed (with chainsaw in hand) by Brother Patrick was remarkable. There were a few tense moments but, all participants came out mostly unscathed, thanks be to God. Many thanks to Brothers Patrick Lujan, Roy Prieto, Howard Schmitt, Guillermo Rivera, Richard Lohmeyer, Danny Duffin and Jimmy Beasley.

From the Brothers On Saturday March 18th members gathered in the morning to assist Robert Gamboa Council 9527 with a tree trimming project, requested by Fr. Richard, at the Las Cruces Catholic Schools campus. Worthy Grand Knight Richard Hoyle was quoted as saying, Thanks to all of the brothers and family members able to help out today! We were able to trim down all the interior trees closest to the church and everybody left with all the same number of holes and body parts they started with minus a few pounds of sweat. Many thanks to all who participated from our council (Howard, Roy, and Guillermo). Church, Family, Youth, and Community Programs Support The Knights of Columbus Basilica de San Albino Council 15578 is currently selling 50/50 tickets in support of the council s Church, Family, Youth, and Community Programs. The tickets are $100.00 each with only 100 tickets to be sold for this drawing. The prize is $5,000.00 for the winning ticket. Share the cost and share the prize with family members, friends, neighbors, acquaintances, or your favorite Knight. A public drawing after one of the masses at the Basilica of San Albino will be held once all 100 tickets are sold.

For all Catholics: Top Ten Things to Promote Vocations 1. Pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. Jesus says in Matthew 9:38 to beg the master of the harvest to send laborers into the vineyard. If we want more priests, sisters and brothers, we all need to ask. 2. Teach young people how to pray. Pope Benedict XVI said that unless we teach our youth how to pray, they will never hear God calling them into a deeper relationship with Him and into the discipleship of the Church. 3. Invite active young adults and teens to consider a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life. A simple, sincere comment should not be underestimated. An easy way to do this can be remembered by four letters: ICNU. John, I see in you (ICNU) the qualities that would make a good priest, and I want to encourage you to pray about it. It is a non-invasive way to encourage openness to a religious vocation. 4. Make it attractive. Show the priesthood for what it truly is a call to be a spiritual father to the whole family of faith. Similarly, the consecrated life for a young woman is a call to be united to Christ in a unique way, and to be a spiritual mother to those she encounters in her life and service. The challenge for priests and religious is to be joyful models of their vocations. 5. Preach it, brother! Vocations must be talked about regularly if a vocation culture is to take root in parishes and homes. This means, first and foremost, the people need to hear about vocations from priests through homilies, prayers of the faithful, and discussions in the classroom. Vocations kept out of sight are out of mind. For those considering a vocation: 6. Practice the faith. We all need to be reminded that the whole point of our lives is to grow in a deep, inti-mate and loving relationship with God. This is the first step for any young person desiring to discern any call in life. 7. Enter into the Silence. Silence is key to sanity and wholeness. We can only hear the voice of God if we are quiet. Take out the ear buds of your iphone, ipod, and itunes and listen to God, the great I AM. Young people should try to spend 15 minutes of quiet prayer each day this is where you can begin to receive clear direction in your lives. 8. Be a good disciple. Some bishops say, We do not have a vocation crisis; we have a discipleship crisis. Young people can become true followers of Jesus Christ by serving those around them. By discovering your call to discipleship, you also discover your particular call within the Church. 9. Ask God. Ask God what He wants for your life and know He only wants what is good for you. If, in fact, you are called to the priesthood or consecrated life, it will be the path to great joy and contentment. 10. In the immortal words of a famous sneaker manufacturer: Just do it! If you feel that God is inviting you to try it out, call the Diocesan Vocation Office. They will help you in your discernment journey. You will not be ordained or asked to profess vows for many years, providing ample opportunity to explore the possibility of a call to priesthood or religious life.
