Message From the District Deputy Message from the District Deputy The fraternal year is really moving along now as Thanksgiving is only several weeks away and Christmas is only a little more than six weeks away; in fact I already hear the mention of Christmas on the radio and some have even put up lights!!! October was a very productive month for the District 15 Knights of Columbus Councils. Pope John Paul II Council 13794 had a very successful Oktoberfest and even had help and support from St. Peter Council 16690. In addition others from other nearby Councils assisted and especially from the OLG Council 12175 for helping with the cash raffle. Several other Councils have had pancake breakfast or other events as well, including, St. Edward Council 15538, John Peyton Council 15338 and St. Thomas Council 11253. All of our District 15 Councils have by now completed at least one major Church recruitment drive in their Parish and so far we have had some positive results, with several recruited at St. Edward, one who took the 1st degree at St. Peter and a transfer in as well. St. George did a major push and signed up one candidate, handed out many cards and set up for a recruitment dinner night. St. Thomas and St. Paul held drives and handed out brochures and prospect cards and heightened some interests in their parishes. District 15 Councils participated again this year with the tootsie roll campaign held at the end of October and including our D15 Councils 13794, 15338 and 16690 and several hundred dollars were collected. Thanks to GK Jeff with Council 13794 for setting this program up for all to participate again this year. In October District 15 held several first degree exemplifications with some new members and also set up and did a 2nd Formation degree at St. Peter with good results. In some cases the District teamed up with District 1 and supported and assisted with their 1st Admission and 2nd Formation degrees at Council 676 on several Monday nights. All of this work paid off because we had one of the best turnouts in recent years at the recent 3rd Knighthood degree that was hosted by St. Peter Council 16690 on November 4th. There were a total of 18 candidates who took the 3rd degree and they represented 5 Districts and 9 Councils in this area. In addition, one member from District 15, Sir Knight Tone Shimizu, took his 4th Patriotic degree at the end of October in Chehalis. Congratulations to all those members who advanced in the Knights of Columbus recently this past month or so. By now all Councils should be gearing up for Keeping Christ in Christmas by getting out and selling your Christmas cards at your Sunday events before or after Mass. Also Councils should have ordered their Coats for Kids and made arrangements to have an appropriate event to hand out the coats to those in need in your Parish or community. Other programs Councils should focus on and coming up soon would include the March for Life, Seminarian RSVP and ultrasound programs. Also remember to store away your extra funds for the Pennies for Heaven (PFH) program later this winter. Others should include the Domestic Church and food for families programs. There will be a District Deputy meeting coming up on the first of December and all District Deputies will be attending. Before this meeting all DD's are required to complete a little report on the current status of all Councils in the District. So far, I believe that we are doing pretty well in D15, but let's really go after the new recruits and get our membership and insurance done now so we don't have to worry about it late in the spring time, when it may be too late. Take care, Vivat Jesus, Steve Schweyen, DD15 2

Message From Grand Knight Message from the Grand Knight There are a lot of good things going on in our Council 16690 lately. Our brother Knights have been busy working in the kitchen at St. Peter to hold our October pancake breakfast for the Parish and also for Seahawk Sunday games, as well as preparing food and lunch for several degrees including the recent 2nd Admission and the 3rd Knighthood degrees hosted and held by St. Peter Council 16690. Many thanks to all of our Brother Knights who have helped out with these programs for our Council, including Brothers Aris, Gary, Dan, Reggie, and all the others who have helped out to make this Council GO! Right now our Council is gearing up for the soccer and basketball youth programs, as well as the March for Life in Olympia in January. Our Coats for Kids have arrived to hand out to Saint Vincent de Paul and we have our Christmas cards to sell to the Parish for Keep Christ in Christmas. Recently our Knights supported and participated in the annual Halloween party at St. Peter. Due to the generosity of a volunteer our Knights at St. Peter's Parish have been instrumental in receiving and setting up the large screen TV which is a great asset for some of the great new programs including the Seahawk Sunday games and also some planned movie nights coming up. The Parish will also be using this new asset to help out with Religious education and other needs. These are some exciting times for our new Council and so great to be involved with all of these great programs and the fellowship of our Brother Knights. Currently we are now waiting to get our new framed Council Charter, which should be done very soon. In addition we are hoping to receive our Star Council award at the annual combined Christmas social program at St. George on December 15th. In unity and fraternity there is strength and let us all remember that principal of our order so that we can build up God's Kingdom. There is an officer meeting coming up on this Saturday, November 11th at St. Peter Parish at 10:30 am and hope that all our officers and members will be there to continue with the planning of more activities for our Council 16690. Let's not forget that Saturday is also Veteran's day and let's remember all the sacrifices of those who have given their all for our Country! Congratulations to our new 1st degree member Alfred who recently received the first degree and also to our new 4th degree member Brother Tone who recently received his 4th degree in Centralia at the end of October. Vivat Jesus, Steve Schweyen, DD15 Council 16690 - GK 3

Wilson Message from the Faithful Navigator PATRIOTISM The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus was established on Feb. 22, 1900, on the principle of patriotism love for and devotion to one s country and Fourth Degree Knights focus the majority of their activities on this principle. Yet, it should be remembered that the Fourth Degree is an important part of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization. Nurturing a spirit of fraternalism within your assembly is a vital aspect of the work of the Fourth Degree. There are several ways that fraternalism can grow and spread among your fellow Sir Knights. MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT Fourth Degree members compose a brotherhood united in their dedication to patriotism enlightened by the Catholic Faith. The patriotic spirit of every Knights of Columbus member can be enhanced if he chooses to join the Fourth Degree. To effectively celebrate and perpetuate patriotism, the Fourth Degree always need additional members. While it may be unrealistic to expect every Third Degree member to be a Fourth Degree member also, it is always important to encourage Third Degree Knights to take the patriotic degree of the order. Several membership recruitment tools and incentive awards program are offered to help Fourth Degree members recruit new Sir Knights. Remember, the Knights of Columbus mission has not changed; helping people, changing lives, and saving lives through charitable works to help those people in need is what matters most.
