Be informed. Pray with the United Methodist Church as it considers the full inclusion of LGBTQ persons in all levels of church ministry. Stewardship Corner A Giving Meditation: Proportional Giving Proportional Giving The size of your gift isn t as important as what it represents to you. Someone may give a million dollars, which might seem like a lot, but might only be a drop in the bucket given their worth. This is why Jesus tells the story of the widow s mite (Mark 12:41-44). The correct way to measure any gift is by what it represents to the giver: Is it sacrificial? Is it meaningful? Or is it, in reality, puny? If you think of your gift as a percentage of your income, you can measure your thankfulness. Figure it out. What proportion of your income is your gift? Then ask the question, Am I pleased to be giving such a percentage? If the answer is yes, it will make you feel good; if the answer is no, you may want to raise the amount. Let your gift be the measure of your thankfulness; let it speak your investment and commitment to the ministry or cause. (Taken from One Minute Stewardship, by Charles Cloughen, Jr.) The Rt. Rev. Robert W. Ihlof Bishop of Maryland, Retired 10
