Weekly Newsletter February 26, 2017 From the Principal s Desk Ash Wednesday begins March 1 st Join us for 8:00 am Mass Lent is a wonderful time for families to share and focus on deepening their relationship with Jesus as well as sharing their faith with those around them. Our lives are busy, but don t forget to take time to help your child prepare for this beautiful season rooted in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Check the end of our newsletter for a Lenten calendar, information on Holy Heroes Lenten Adventure, 10 Ideas for Lent, and Ash Wednesday. Make this a special time for your family as we prepare for Easter! Rice Bowl App As part of our Lenten tradition, St. Joseph Catholic School supports the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl program. Each family receives a Rice Bowl that may be used to remember those who are less fortunate. For more information, please visit the CRS website. Cardinal Timothy Dolan has prepared a wonderful video defining What is Lent? http://www.crsricebowl.org/about/how-to-practice-lent You can also download the Rice Bowl App for daily reflections and a new way to look at Lent. http://www.crsricebowl.org/about/app

Spring Pictures March 2, 2017 Dress Up Day Students do not have to wear uniforms, but do need to follow out of uniform dress code. The dress code can be found in the school handbook which is on the school website at www.sjsfl.org. Tips for School Picture Day 1. Help your child pick out clothes and colors that look good on them. After all, your child is the star of the photo not their shirt, so avoid slogans, logos, and big patterns. Make sure to check your flyer to see sample poses for your Picture Day. Some poses may show pants or skirts, so plan the complete outfit. 2. Glasses are okay! Lifetouch photographers know all the tricks to reduce glare. 3. Any hairstyle works for Picture Day. Schedule haircuts a few weeks ahead of time to allow hair to grow back a little, or you can go for a fresh-cut look. 4. Keep kids relaxed and ready to be themselves. Smiles can look fake if they re practiced ahead of time. Remember, smiles are like french fries they re better when they re fresh. 5. Don t worry about perfect! That hair that always sticks up or a missing tooth shows your child just as they are right now and you ll enjoy looking back on that for years to come. On Picture Day, teachers and volunteers will help straighten collars and check posture.
