Dear Parishioners, A NOTE FROM FATHER With the Feast of All Saints and the Commemoration of All Souls, our liturgical year takes a turn to remembering those who have gone before us. As part of this, we continue the custom of placing the Book of Remembrance in a prominent location for you to write the names of loved ones who have passed on before. It is a good practice to not only inscribe the names, but to pray for all those in the books, as well as those throughout the world, and perhaps most especially the souls that are not remembered. In addition to this, I again remind you of the beautiful custom of Mass intentions. While everyone can have a particular intention for Masses they tend (health, for a wayward child or spouse, or for a deceased loved one, for example), there is the opportunity to have a priest offer the Mass for a particular intention, in which all attending also pray for that intension. We try our best to publish these names and to announce them at the beginning of Mass or in the petitions, but sometimes mistakes are made. This does not limit the intention, as I always have the scheduled intention as mine. There is a suggested amount ($10) for the intention, but any amount is acceptable. We cannot always guarantee your preferred days, and you are not buying a Mass. If you have intentions, you can speak to Chris at St. Paul s or Sarah at St. Peter s. Any intention (at least those that will not cause scandal such as an intention against the faith) is appropriate - for a deceased loved one or family members, for an anniversary, for healing, for some particular grace. Note that on Sundays (either the Saturday evening Mass or one on Sunday), I as your pastor offer a Mass for your intentions. It is my profound honor to do so. As you hear the intentions announced, join me in praying for them. At the same time, let s avoid a legalistic read of this - if I fail to announce it, mispronounce it, announce the wrong one, or whatever might go wrong, know that it is the intention as published in the bulletin (unless explicitly changed) that is my intention. ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND/LITTLE ANGELS NEWS We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. www.churchofstpeter.org/ji 507.931.2810 We are a school readiness program focused on faith and service which nurtures the whole child embracing individual talents and abilities in a welcoming, caring, and safe environment. 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time 3

CHURCH OF ST. PETER Book of Remembrance During the month of November remember your loved ones by signing the Book of Remembrance. It will be on display for you to sign in the Narthex. Stuff-A-Truck Campaign November 1 November 15, 2018 Dear Parish Members, With the help of the Stuff-A-Truck program, the John Ireland Student Council will be helping our local St. Peter Food Shelf feed the hungry in our community. God calls us to be compassionate to the needs of others and to help where we can. This starts in our own community, so we are sponsoring this service project to help our local food shelf. Working together, we can all make a difference in someone s life. We will have boxes for food donations in the school and church narthexes. We want to see hunger end everywhere, but especially here in our own community. Please continue to pray for all who are hungry and that are in need. The Council appreciates all the help you can give us with this project. We will be collecting food from Thursday, November 1st Thursday, November 15th. Thank You for Your Help! John Ireland Student Council Catholic Daughters Our next meeting is November 13th beginning with a Mass for deceased members at 6pm. Next regent outing is November 18th. Dishes, Pans, Lost & Found Did you perhaps bring a dish for the Salad Luncheon or donate to a funeral? Pans are on the coat rack by the social hall. Please take a look through the Lost & Found basket. All items will be donated to the thrift store on November 16. Growing Together in a Stewardship Ministry of Communion at Retirement Homes John 15:12 This is my commandment: Love one another as I have loved you. Fr. Todd is not able to offer Mass at all the care facilities of our area. That is where lay ministers can come in. They fulfill the mission of serving communion to those who have difficulty attending mass. They may lead or just assist at a Word and Communion Service. While there are a few willing to do so, more are needed. Everyone might come to this ministry for different reasons, but for each it has become a time to give to others and learn from the experiences of these beautiful senior Christians. To see the faith of those who are close to meeting the Lord and to share in the grace they have been given is so special. This ministry is an ever changing one, because we say farewell to the residents as they move into God s heavenly home. We are living witnesses that the community of faith has not forgotten the sick, the invisible elderly and the unseen sufferers. We are keeping them connected until they leave. They in turn are keeping us connected by serving them and seeing the peace that comes when we are part of the Body of Christ. It is amazing to watch those who at times do not know their name or birth date, but can recite the Lord s Prayer without hesitation. We experience God in so many ways as we share in the blessings of the Eucharist. If you have ever thought about becoming a Eucharistic Minister to the sick and aging, don t hesitate any longer. Some go to Senior residents and nursing homes, other s go to private homes or hospitals. We are a community of disciples so that no one is alone. Why not arrange a sneak preview of this ministry where you accompany one of our ministers on their visit. Then you decide whether this is the ministry for you. Contact the office or Fr. Todd for more information. We will be compiling the names to submit to Bishop LeVoir for approval the first week of Advent, with training to follow. 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time 5

INFORMATION We need your help One of the great services a parish offers as a Christian community is to help the grieving family by providing them with a venue and a meal following the funeral Mass for friends and relatives. It is a way to express solidarity with the family as well as a way to show Christian love and concern when one of our own is suffering a loss of a loved one. Though we have many volunteers who prepare and serve the meal, we are in need of others to provide salads and cakes/bars for these meals. Without these donations by friends, relatives, and parishioners, it becomes necessary to purchase ready made products adding to the expense for the families. Please consider donating these food items when you are able. It is greatly appreciated. WorldWide Marriage Weekend The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; Listen with your spouse for God s message of love by exploring a Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) weekend. The next weekends are: Nov 16-18, 2018 in Windom, MN and Feb 8-10, 2019 in Windom, MN. Early sign up is recommended. For more information visit our website at: southmnwwme.org or 507-227-8229. Up-Coming Faith Formation Calendar This past week the 2018 Diocesan Ministries Appeal packets were mailed to all homes in the diocese. This year s theme is, A Gift of Self. The DMA offers us an opportunity to do our part to support the ministries that help to build the Church right here in the Diocese of New Ulm ministries and services that no single parish could provide. Each one of us has been blessed by God s generosity and for that reason, we have a spiritual need and desire to return some of that blessing back to God. If you are able, please consider becoming a member or continuing a membership in the Bishop s Guild for those who contribute $1,000 or more to the DMA. Next weekend we will see the DMA video. Be assured that your gift will only be used to support those ministries designated in the DMA brochure and no other.
