Radio gear away and stored ready for inventory: Rich Britain Coordinator message: Saturday, January 18, 2014, a group of our SATERN members and one guest removed the donated equipment from the residence (except for the tower) and moved it to a safe location. We hope to remove the tower from the residence at a later date. The work performed included some very heavy lifting from a basement. It was all completed in a very quick and efficient manner by the team of skilled amateur radio operators. 4 Dee Smith Message: I would like to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank you to those who helped make this operation a great success. When I first saw the station I had no idea it would be dismantled and packed as quickly as it was. I am so proud of our SATERN team, and all of the time and effort you give to The Salvation Army and the community in all that you do. I will thank you in advance as we move forward to get a complete inventory, and then word to upgrade our ham stations at Salvation Army facilities. We have had a vision to have ham stations set up in a few other locations, or expand what is existing, and I know I can count on you to make this happen. Dee Smith The Salvation Army Divisional Director, Emergency Disaster Services (From SATERN Yahoo Group) INVENTORY, EQUIPMENT TESTING AND DRIVER CERTIFCATION AT EDS On Friday, January 24, 2014, SATERN members conducted an inventory of the donated equipment which had been removed from the home of a Silent Key the previous weekend. Many of the items of equipment were tested to verify that they worked. Batteries, some of which were corroded, were removed from equipment to prevent or lesson damage. The work day provided us a great opportunity to test our knowledge of electronic equipment. Those volunteers who gave the gift of their time in support of The Salvation Army on that day included: Jim Alexander, KIØCT Rich Britain, NØENO Herb Fiddick, NZØF Lon Martin, KØWJ Bill McMillan, NØYUD Brian Pintenich, KDØBNQ Brian Short, KCØBS Bill McMillan and Brian Pintenich became certified that same day to drive the SATERN Communications Vehicle. We wish to thank Sean Tyson, Salvation Army Metro Coordinator, for providing the training to our drivers. We offer a special thanks to Dee Smith, WØDEE, for setting up a spreadsheet, allowing us to store the donated equipment at EDS and for her outstanding support of all our SATERN programs.

8 WB0CNK WB0QQT WB0RRK Obituary for Doris Krout Doris Jean Krout, 82, of Spring Hill, passed away January 29, 2014 at North Point Care Center, Paola, KS. Graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Tue., Feb. 4, 2014 at Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care. Condolences may be left at Arrangements: Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill, KS (913) Doris was born March 31, 1931 in Harrison County, Missouri to Glen S. and Edith (Underwood) Doolittle. She grew up near Cainsville, MO and moved to Olathe in the 40 s. She graduated from John P. St. John Memorial High School in Olathe in Doris married Harry L. Krout on June 5, 1949 in Olathe, KS. She attended Spring Hill Baptist Church was a member of Eastern Star, the Spring Hill American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the EHU. Doris enjoyed crafts and handiwork, owning her own shop in Spring Hill. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Ardis Ann and daughter, Tarry Lynn Stanfield; two sisters, Evelyn and Rowena and four brothers, Lee, Roscoe, Bill and Roe. Doris is survived by her husband, Harry of 64 years; sons, Roger Owen Krout, China, Joe Allen Krout, Kansas City, KS and Lee Krout, Gardner; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Our deepest sympathy to SATERN Supporter Harry Krout WØYQG and Joe Krout WØPWJ, Wyandotte County SATERN Coordinator.
