As 014 comes to a close and as my tenure as your President comes to an end, I want to thank all the good people out here who have done their very best to keep me on track and help me throughout the way! This past year has been busier for me than I was expecting! The new job change brought many battles and with light at the end of the tunnel, I know it was the right choice for me and my family. Thank you for your patience with me and the changes this brought about. I accomplished one main goal for the club this year and that was Field Day. The turn out Friday night was awesome and I hope people will be even more enthused to come out and participate next year! I came up short on another goal for this year, which was to complete some major upgrades and maintenance on the Club s repeater system. I ve heard the concerns of the group and I agree that we are way behind on some much needed upgrades, specifically, the repeater antenna system, balancing the audio levels of the three repeaters, and some minor controller configurations. I can only hope the City will work closely with us in 015 to get this done! In the event of an emergency, could you say without a shadow of a doubt that our repeater system would be on the air? I can t. That emergency will come like that proverbial thief in the night and it will be too late, leaving us without much needed communications! This is a serious matter and needs to be vigorously pursued in early 015! We need to have unrestricted access to the equipment and be prepared should an emergency arise. Drills on calm days when everything is working only tests the abilities of the people not the equipment! Ham Shack is published monthly. Advertisements are welcomed. Dino Darling began the meeting with the pledge of allegiance at 7:05pm. Following that, members and guests introduced themselves, they are: Bill Leslie (WA6POK), Pete Salsido (KK6DRW), Dave Haring (K6CJZ), Vi Barret (W6CBA), Rick Norton (WM6M), Lloyd Hendrickson (K6NQY), Scott Pogosain (KG6RUD), Jon Foley (KA6SED), Jackie Darling (K6RIX), Donald Ocampo (KJ6RXV), Dino Darling (K6XD), Don Olejnik (W6KAT), Paul In (KI6EL), Russel Alpern (KI6ZMX) Manuel Cajina (KK6KD) and Tom Calderwood (KK6CKT). President Dino said at the meeting he has finally finished working on the antennas at Vi s new place. Vi said she has been trying to get on the air through HF, she has been working with Don Porterfield over the air trying to figure out why her radio hasn t been working correctly. V.P. Russel reported that Sizzler is again asking for a $100 Deposit to use their Banquet room. They also wanted us to order from a select menu and not the regular menu. At the meeting, it was discovered that most of the Club is not a fan of Sizzler. It was later suggested the club return to Lascari s Italian Restaurant. A vote was held and was passed to have the Christmas Party at Lascari s again. Russel is going to call and try to make reservations for December 8 th at 6pm. An announcement was made about the raffle this year. it will be different, the Board has decided the raffle be a true raffle. There will no longer be a grand prize like previous years, or where one person wins the whole pot, everyone will have an opportunity to win! Secretary Nothing to Report Treasury Report Bill Leslie reported the Checking account having $4,03.00 and the Savings account having $1, Membership Paul reported that Scott Pogosain is a New Extra Class Ham! Repeater Nothing to Report Old Buisness 1.) At the last meeting a motion was made by Rick Norton to defer the reading of the meeting minutes to the next general meeting. Rick was seconded by Paul In. Motion passed. A second motion was made again by Rick to defer the November meetings minutes and he was seconded by Scott Pogosain. Motion Passed. Continued on page 4

3 1 D E C E M B R V O L U M E 3 9, N O. 1 RHARC BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING November, 014 The directors met at the IHOP Restaurant on Washington Blvd, just east of Norwalk Blvd with President Dino Darling (KX6D) calling the meeting to order at 7:3 PM. The following were in attendance: Dave Haring (K6CJZ), Donald Ocampo (KJ6RXV), Bill Leslie (WA6POK), Mark Leslie (KJ6PNE) Russel Alpern (KI6ZMX) and Paul In (KI6EL). Board Reports 1.) President:.) V.P.: Russel reported he had spoke with Lascari s Restaurant and made reservations for December 8th at 6pm. He paid the $100 deposit that will be applied to later to the bill. Russel is going to double check and see if they can accommodate a special meal for those who need it. Paul will be picking a Costco cake for the party. 3.) Secretary: Donald reported that he had received a letter from the City regarding the Repeater Lease site. A check was made out to the City for $78.51 to renew the repeater lease. There was also a request for a copy of the liability insurance be sent along as well. Paul is going to the information to Donald. 4.) Treasurer: Bill reported that the Savings account has $1,40.18 and the Checking account has $3, Committee Reports 1.) Membership: Paul reported the class had been postponed the class due to the lack of students in attendance. Recently Paul had a conversation with Vi Barrett about having fewer classes, instead of having 1 every quarter, having one every 6 months. Paul and Dave discussed having the classes every 6 months, they ended up agreeing on have two classes next year with the first one being February 7, 8 and March 1. Then the next one on August ) Paul also reported the Membership dues are due. He said that he will send out the membership forms soon. 3.) LAACARC: N/A 4.) Newsletter: Donald reminded everyone to please turn in their articles by the end of the week. 5.) Repeater: N/A 6.) Whittier Disaster Communications: Dave reported he has been granted permission to recruit more volunteers. He also said the next meeting at the EOC is December, 014 at 10am. 7.) Dave also said he is almost done with the new Band Plan for the Club. Old Business 1.) Bill reported he will be going to HRO on Black Friday to see what kind of deal he can strike up for the Clubs raffle. Adjournment: The next Board meeting will be held on December 9th at 7pm. A motion was made by Dino to adjourn the meeting, he was seconded by Paul. The meeting ended at 8:3pm. The options are...1.)pasta with Meat or Marinara sauce and meatballs,.)lasagna with meat sauce, 3.)Cheese or Beef Ravioli with meat or marinara sauce, 4.)Baked Ziti with meat or marinara sauce, 5.)Fettuccini Alfredo with broccoli. We hope everyone will come and Celebrate the Holiday Season with us! President s Message (continued from pg. 1) If you want to test the equipment, open the breaker on the hill at the repeater site and see what happens! I d also like to see more radio related social events in 015 as well! I have some ideas and I ll run those by the 015 Board next year! Speaking of the 015 Board, we are short a couple of key players and this is where YOU come in! We ll be hitting the floor at the Christmas Party looking for next year s President and Secretary! I ll still serve on the Board as Past President, but in order to do that we need a NEW President! Will you consider it? You will have plenty of help and support! Same goes for Secretary! Don t worry, you won t have to do this newsletter! It s the participation of the members that makes the Club strong! Please consider stepping up to serve your Club! We ll be at Lascari s again for our Christmas Party! You will find more information in this newsletter! I hope everyone will attend! The raffle will be very nice this year! The offices of V.P. and Treasure have decided to stay in office for another term. Vi suggested that maybe a member could take the Clubs Roster and make phone calls to everyone on there to see if anyone would run for office. In the end, Vi ended up taking on the task of calling everyone. New Buisness 1.) Field day results are on the ARRL website..) This coming weekend is the Sweepstakes Contest. 3.) There is going to be a special event station on November 17th, the NRA is celebrating there 143 anniversary. They will have a few stations set up on HF, they are 7.50, and Their Call sign will be K7NRA. Presentation Our feature presentation was not held because he did not show up. I am looking forward to doing the same in 015. We have many new ideas for the coming year. I want thank everyone for their help in 014. I hope to see everyone at Lascari s Restaurant.
