8 WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Historical Society was founded one hundred years ago, on January 11, 1892, by leading citizens of the Kingdom of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Historical Society began in 1892 publishing articles, papers, and books about the history of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Historical Society now maintains a library containing a major collection of Hawaiian historical materials on the history of Hawaii and the Pacific which is open to the public; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Historical Society sponsors lecture series on the history of Hawaii and in many ways fosters an interest in Hawaii's history in the community; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Historical Society celebrates 100 years of service at a Centennial Luau on Saturday, January 11, 1992; NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN WAIHEE, Governor of Hawaii, do hereby proclaim January 11, 1992, to be HAWAIIAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY CENTENNIAL DAY DONE at the State Capitol, in the Executive Chambers, Honolulu, State of Hawaii, this tenth day of January, FIG.
