That was certainly the case when Jesus told His disciples to feed the crowd. With no McDonald s in the area, they came back and asked Jesus to do what they couldn t. Family Retreat I at Camp Okoboji NATIVITY SCENE: As you know our church outdoor nativity scene is beyond repair. We, the Evangelism Board have begun a quest to purchase a new one that we can use this upcoming Christmas season. We thought if we started with a few pieces that we would be able to add more pieces as money allows. So far over $3,000 has been donated to the project. The set we are looking at is through Bronners Christmas Store in Frankenmuth, Michigan. It is a life-size set and made of fiberglass. They offer churches 15 percent off for all purchases. The cost for the first 3 pieces are as follows: Baby Jesus: $895 Joseph: $1,595 Mary: $1,445 Shipping: $ (Or if someone is willing they could pick them up) We have a member of the congregation willing to make the wooden stable. In order for us to have a nativity scene this year, we hope you can help us with some funds. We are trying to raise about $4,000 this year. We will continue to encourage memorial donations and use money from our Sunday coffee this summer. There is a bucket set out for donations. Any spare change you have will be appreciated. Thank you for your consideration! The Evangelism Board LWML MISSION NOTES: For JULY we are collecting school supplies and backpacks for Ioway and UDMO. Some of the items needed are as follows: notebooks, glue, pencils and pencil cases, scissors, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, crayons, and folders. Please place items in the collection totes in the Narthex during the month of July. Thank you for your continued support! LWML Mission Committee: Joan A., Marian A., Jackie S.
3 We are receiving LARRY and JINA RASMUSSEN as members of Zion this morning. They began attending Zion about 3 years ago. We welcome them. We wish to thank you for the many cards and gifts we received as you joined us in celebrating our 50 th Wedding Anniversary. We thank those, from Zion, who took the time to join the members of Holy Trinity Lutheran for the dinner following the service on June 24. Your warmth and Christian love is a reflection of your faith. May our gracious God continue to bless and keep each of you in His care. Barb and Pastor Raether Thank you to all the friends who sent cards for our 25 th anniversary. Darrel & Verla Hinrichs The Ladies Aid of Holy Trinity Lutheran wish to thank those members of Zion who made the 40 mile trip to Farnhamville for their Guest Night. Your presence was a welcome surprise and a blessing to the Ladies Aid. If anyone would like to send a card to Ruth Buddenhagen her address is: Mill Pond, Skilled Care, Attn: Ruth Buddenhagen - Room 25, 1201 SE Mill Pond Court, Ankeny, IA Sunday School Teachers Needed: Curriculum, Supplies, and Training are all available! Also, looking for teenagers to assist with the younger classes. Please contact Brandi Tammen at or tbtammen@gmail.com. If you have left anything in the counting room, please remove it. Things cannot be stored in this room because the counters need that space. They will be cleaning out anything not picked up. Thank you for your help. The 2018 Flower and KHBT Lutheran Hour Charts are posted south of the east bulletin board in the Narthex. Please consider one or both of these opportunities to give thanks and praise to our gracious Lord. Thank you. Sundays available are: FLOWERS: August 5; September 16; October 28, November 18; December 2. KHBT LUTHERAN HOUR: July 29; August 19; September 2, 16 & 30; October 28; December 23. Would you like a copy of the Lutheran Confessions? The Wednesday Morning Ladies Bible Study has been working through the Book of Concord for the past month, and some are interested in purchasing their own copies of the Readers Edition of the Book of Concord. If these books are bought in bulk, they are sold at a discount. The more books bought, the larger the discount. If you would like to purchase one as well, there is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.
4 Curious about how God led Pastor Kyle to be your pastor? One organization God used was OAFC (Ongoing Ambassadors For Christ). An OAFC traveling team will come to Zion the weekend of August 3 5. Plan now to come and hear their witness of Jesus our Savior and to also join them as they teach us how to witness to others about salvation by Jesus s death and resurrection. CARPET and PAINT PROJECT: (Donations can be marked Carpet Project ) New carpet will be installed in the fellowship hall and down the hallway to the fellowship hall, as well as a layer of flooring (vinyl) along the north wall (by the kitchen) to avoid some of the staining from the kitchen. If you are able, we are asking for donations for the project. If possible, we d like to have the carpet installed this summer. At the recent voters meeting the idea for painting the fellowship hall and hallway was suggested and approved. Money for the project can be given in the offering marked Carpet Project,' or with the pink Growing in Christ envelopes found in the back of the church (for safety still mark it Carpet Project ). Thank you. LWML is happy to box and ship the pill bottles, but please, before bringing to church, follow the guidelines listed below: LWML Pill Bottle Recycling Guidelines: Acceptable collection items include: Prescription and over-the-counter pill bottles > Large and small pill bottles. > Pill bottles with and without secure caps (child resistant). If you wish to prepare bottles for shipment rather than recycling, please adhere to the following guidelines: > Bottles included in shipments of medical supplies must have an all plastic lids. > Remove labels, leaving no glue or residue. > Wash bottles in very hot water and dish soap. > Rinse and dry thoroughly. > Replace lids on clean, dried bottles. If you have changed your phone number or are now using only a cell number, have a new address, or have moved and have a new physical address, please contact the church office at zion@goldfieldaccess.net or with your new phone number, address, and physical address. Family Scrapbook Album: If you have NOT made your family scrapbook page please help yourself to a page and information card found in the drawer below the books. For ideas, flip through the pages to see how others have done theirs. Include your family members especially all that are Zion members, include your family interests. Make it playful and fun. If you already have a page update it if you wish at any time.
5 LWML has CARDS for sale! Sympathy, Wedding, Anniversary, Birthday, Get Well, Etc. Individual cards are $1.00 and the price for boxed cards is listed on back of the box. Check out cards on the cart and table in Narthex. Exciting News from Iowa District West! God has presented Iowa District West with an amazing mission opportunity. Through the Orphan Grain Train, IDW will be able to provide the sanctuary furnishings for one or more mission churches. This is a tremendous opportunity and you can be a part of it! On Monday, July 30 (note change of date), at 8:00 a.m., two Orphan Grain Train trucks (a container and a moving van) from Norfolk, NE will be at St. John s Lutheran Church, Colfax Twp., ( th St.), Vincent, IA to load all remaining sanctuary furniture. The furniture will be trucked to Norfolk and shipped to its final mission destinations, possibly some even to Liberia, Africa. To make this effort successful, many volunteers are needed to help load the trucks. If you can help, come to St. John s, rural Vincent, early on the morning of July 30. Also, a missionary in Tanzania has requested copies of the red TLH, The Lutheran Hymnal, copyright If you have some of these old hymnals in usable condition, please give them to the District Office or bring them to St. John s by early morning on July 30. These, too, will be loaded on the trucks. Don t miss these wonderful opportunities to give aid to our partner mission churches. As you are all aware, we have had a very wet summer across north and central Iowa. In the last month heavy downfalls of rain caused flooding in the Ames, Ankeny, and Des Moines area. A variety of individuals and churches have been impacted by flood waters. Iowa District West congregations have always been great at responding to the need when asked for disaster relief funds and now we have needs in our own district. Now is the time for these individuals and churches to begin rebuilding and replacing their losses. We are aware of some of the needs from individuals and congregations but we may not be aware of all. If your church, or individuals from your church or community need assistance please let me know. If you or your church wish to make a donation (unused funds will support future disasters), please make checks payable to IDW-Iowa Flooding and send to: Iowa District West 409 Kenyon Rd. Suite B, Fort Dodge, IA Upper Des Moines Opportunity (UDMO) has recently been asked to manage the Humboldt County Food Pantry. They are looking for support from the local churches to help provide food for the Pantry. They would like to have different churches collect and donate different items each month for the Food Pantry to ensure that they get a good mix of products to distribute. They will accept any donation but would like the focus to be on the designated items for the month when possible. For July they are asking Zion to collect donations of bags or boxes of cereal. These can be dropped off at the Humboldt County Food Pantry on Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

However, any amount, more or less will be greatly appreciated.
