3 Mr. Robert Edward Blount was born in Hancock County, Georgia, the son of Mrs. Emma Kendrick Blount and the late Mr. Frank Blount. His early training was recsived in Hancock County after which he entered Paine College, Augusta, where he graduated from high school and received his bachelor s degree. He later earned the Master of Arts degree from Atlanta University. After graduating from Paine, he taught for one year at A and I Academy, Hancock County and one year at Tate, Georgia, after which he became affiliated with the Richmond County School Sys tem. He first taught at A. R. Johnson High School, then became principal of P. H. Craig School. He later served as principal of the Weed School and for the past thirteen years as principal of the Levi White School. He has also served as president of the local Principal s Council, President of Richmond County Teachers As sociation and Director of Region V, Georgia Teachers and Education Association. Mr. Blount s service to the community was by no means confined to the school system. He assisted faithfully the work at the Bethle hem Center and as a result of his activities as scout master of Troup 42, he guided a large number of boys to rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the coveted Silver Beaver. As a result of work with the youth of the community, the Robert E. Blount playground was established in his honor. He was an active member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and at one time served as Basileus of Psi Omega Chapter. Also, one year he was elected "Omega Man Of The Year." Mr. Blount was a devout churchman. A member of Williams Memorial C. M. E. Church since its founding, he has served in the choir, as chairman of the Steward Board, Superintendent of the Sunday School and Lay Leader of the Georgia Conference of the C. M. E. Church. A devoted family man, he is survived by a faithful wife, Mrs. Hertha Latimer Blount; mother, Mrs. Emma Kendrick Blount, Wash ington Court House, Ohio; son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Earl Cooper, Los Angeles, California; two sons, Mr. Robert E. Blount, Jr. of the faculty of Fort Valley State College, Dr. Latimer Blount, U. S. Dental Corps; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Bailey, Washington Court House, Ohio; two brothers, Mr. Benjamin Blount, Toledo, Ohio, and Mr. Alvin Blount, Augusta; also 13 sisters-in-law, 8 brothers-in-law, and numerous other relatives and friends.

5 Resolution passed by the Levi White Faculty on the death of Mr. Robert E. Blount, Sr. We the faculty of Levi White bow our heads in humble submission to the will of Almighty God, in the passing of our beloved principal, Mr. Robfi-*"" T 9*4. E. Blount. In his death, we have lost a dy namic leader, a wise counselor, a kindly man and a sincere friend. With his magnetic personality, his rare gift of humorous expressions and his wisdom acquired through wide experiences, he was a dominant figure among his fellowmen. Mr. Blount s untiring energy made him a man of great insight. His unique method of using humor to convey pertinent ideas was a characteristic that we will forever cherish. His deep appreciation for culture, and the beautiful, and his kindly leadership made it easy for his faculty to become his disciples. It is known that he was influenced by a strong religious feeling and a deep love for his church, which was reflected in his life as a principal. The best expression of our feeling is found in the words of Kipling s "Dedication," He scarce had need to doff his pride or slough the dross of earth- E en as he trod that day to God so walked he from his birth In simpleness and gentleness and honour and clean mirth.
