All early risers of Mullins are invited to attend the prayer breakfast held every Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall. We gather at 7 am and usually finish by 7:30. First time is free; subsequent cost is $2.00 per person. Menu: Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, coffee, orange juice. For more information, contact Brent Milton. Coming Soon: Church Birthday Party and July 4 th Celebration Mark your calendars! Our 4 th of July and Church Birthday Party will be held Sunday, July 2 nd, from 6:30 to 9 pm. Bring your family and friends to Mullins for delicious barbecue, fantastic entertainment, and Tommy Scruggs unbelievable fireworks display! Donations for fireworks fund greatly appreciated! 3 Wear Red for Pentecost Please note that Pentecost Sunday is being observed June 4, and members of Mullins traditionally are asked to wear red to worship services on this day. Hawaiian Shirt Sunday On June 18, which is Father s Day, Mullins will observe Hawaiian Shirt Sunday. Wear what you dare! This will also be the final Sunday Rev. Ken Stewart will be with us. (See story below.) Crafts Fair Update Good news! The venerable Mullins Craft Fair is going through a transition in leadership, but it will continue to operate and raise valuable funds for missions as it has for several decades. Sandy and Tommy Scruggs have led a successful team including Marcia Taylor and Kathy Carter for many years and finally announced their retirement after last fall s fair. Marcia and Kathy have agreed to stay involved with new leaders Margaret Brown and Diana Wright! More information to come. The date for this year s fair is Nov. 11 th! Ciao, Susan! Important note from Mullins very able Administrative Assistant, Susan Tutt, who is on her way (bless her heart!) to a holiday in Italy: I will be on vacation May 30 June 14. Call Ken or Camille if you need assistance. Fellowship Dinners Wednesday night Fellowship Dinners are taking a break during June and July. Dinners will resume in August. Our thanks to Brenda Carson for her work in planning, shopping, and helping cook the delicious meals! And our thanks to Geraldine Finley, the finest cook anywhere! Father s Day Farewell Reception for Rev. Ken Stewart June 18 On June 18, following the 10:50 Worship Service, a farewell reception for Rev. Ken Stewart will be held in the Narthex. This is a small way in which we may show our appreciation for his time with us and wish him well as he begins a year of personal leave. By coincidence, this will be Hawaiian Shirt Sunday and Father s Day, the same celebration we were observing when he first arrived in Welcome Reception July 9 for Alford Family On July 9, following the 10:50 Worship Service, a welcoming reception will be held for Rev. Dr. Scott Alford and his family. More information to come. Full Potential Camps Full Potential Fitness and Sports Training will present two Train Like the Pros Summer Camp sessions at Mullins. The basketball sessions will be June 5 to 9 and July 10 to 14. They are designed for ages 7 to 17 and will be held daily from 9 am to 1 pm. 4 After fundraising and traveling to Costa Rica for the 2016 Rice & Beans Mission Trip, the Mullins Youth have chosen to serve locally this summer. During the week of June 26 th through June 30 th, we will serve the guests at Manna House Monday and Tuesday, and then travel a short distance to Obion, TN, to participate in the Reelfoot Rural Ministries Home Rehab Mission. Bigger Stuff Youth Mission Week Manna House is near Memphis downtown medical district, and provides hospitality for people who are experiencing poverty and homelessness. We believe that in the long run, a local, national, international trip rotation will give each youth a variety of opportunities to meet and serve Christ in people from many differing backgrounds and cultures. These projects are greatly needed, but the home rehabilitation program is really about Restoring Hope, One Relationship at a Time. Team members encounter the redeeming and sustaining Grace of God through the relationships that are established as they offer themselves in service to their neighbors. People of all ages and abilities find this mission experience to be one of the most rewarding opportunities in their spiritual journey. ~ Reelfoot Rural Ministries Each Mullins Youth will be paying $275 to cover the cost of building materials and room and board. We are pleased to welcome an outstanding youth choir from First United Methodist Church in Irving, Texas, with their leader and director, Leanne Seabright. July 16 Bishop Duo Once again we welcome Anthony Lu, cello, and Andre Duvall, piano, who have become an indispensable highlight of our summer series. July 23 Chris and Diane Machen Christian singers (my brother and sister-in-law from Plano, Texas the real talent in the family)!) return to Mullins. They also will perform this evening at Colonial Baptist Church, time TBA July 30 Dr. Nancy Chase, bagpipes A Memphis treasure in so many areas, she returns for her fourth annual visit to Mullins. August 6 Matt Carey, baritone, with Andre Duvall, piano Matt is a remarkable singing artist who also is a speech therapist and professor of voice at Arkansas State University. He was a former soloist and member of the group I was privileged to lead, the Memphis Vocal Arts ensemble. Matt had an extensive operatic career in Europe. August 13 - Steve Becraft, clarinet, with Andre Duvall, piano Knowing the quality performers Andre has shared with us in the past, I am confident Steve will be of the very top level in his debut performance in the series. Please note: Chancel Choir will be on summer hiatus July 3 to August 9. We will resume Wednesday night practices 6:30 to 8 pm on August 9 and return to the choir loft August 20. We are thankful for his service to Mullins and our surrounding community. Children who were receiving breakfast and lunch while in school are not receiving those meals during the summer. Highland Heights reached out to the New Directions Sunday School class and we were able to provide extra food for the pantry the last week of May. If this cause touches your heart, please bring food or cash donations to our classroom or drop your food in the green collection boxes at the church entries. We will deliver it to Highland Heights food pantry. New Directions Class 8
