1 ~THE JOURNEY OF OUR SOULS~ WHAT S YOUR ROUTE? Appreciate, Communicate, and Contemplate the Temple Here are some ideas that can be used for FHE or for a youth activity. Adjust them to your needs and your inspiration. Tom Perry The Past Way of Facing the Future Your Route To The Temple: Map It "Prepare now for the temple, the mountain of the Lord. Never allow the goal of the temple to be out of your sight. Walk into His presence in purity and virtue, and receive His blessings even 'all that he hath.'" Elaine S. Dalton Obtain a map to your nearest temple or make one of your own. You can download directions to your temple of choice by going to, Talk about what it will take to get to the temple spiritually and physically. Some examples of preparations along the way would be... Baptism Following the promptings of the Spirit Be a Guardian of Virtue Pay a Full Tithe Follow the Prophet Dress Modestly
2 Be Honest Prayer Scriptures Attend Sacrament Meeting Weekly Keep the Word of Wisdom Obey the Commandments Put the Plan into Action: Plan a trip to the temple either on foot, car, bike, train, or bus and follow your route that you have mapped out together to get to the temple. During your travel to the temple, talk about the symbolism of journeying to the temple and the preparation one must make to go to the temple. For example; Discuss the path you must follow and critical turns you must make on your journey. What are the potential dangers along the route? What needed aid should we have for support to help each individual on their journey. Once you reach the temple, discuss those things that you talked about and noticed along the way pertaining to your personal journey to the temple. Examples might be... Why is it important to map out our journey to the temple? Did you want to quit? How did you feel when you made it? What helped you to keep going? Did it help to work together? Finally, correlate it to each person s life and their personal journey to the temple. Where are you on your route to the temple? What might tempt you to quit on your journey? What can you do to strive each day to be working towards on your personal journey to make it to the House of the Lord? If you do not live close to a temple, you can map your way to your home and make a night out of journeying to your home. Discuss ways to make your home more holy.

4 Soul Reminders Along Your Journey "Within the sound of my voice are many young women, young men, and children. I plead with you to be worthy, to be steadfast, and to look forward with great anticipation to the day you will receive the ordinances and blessings of the temple." David A. Bednar Tent Night: Set a tent up in your backyard and face the door of your tent towards the direction of the temple. Set up sleeping bags and have some yummy munchies to munch on while you discuss the importance of turning ourselves towards the temple. Temple Art Night: Have everyone draw a picture of his or her favorite temple. Hang it as a reminder to prepare to go to the temple. Ancestor Night: Research an ancestor name and prepare to have their temple work done. Baptisms: Go to the temple and do baptisms for the dead. Story Night: Study the lives of the pioneers who gave so much in building up the kingdom of God and share your stories with one another. Take note of their efforts and courage and make the choice to implement some of those same characteristics into your personal life. Fun Fact Night: Look up your nearest temple website and learn about the facts and interesting information about your temple closest to you. Go to the temples website; Read the dedicatory prayer listed on the website and contemplate the great blessings that surround you because of having a temple in your midst. Write the promises and blessings down to be a reminder to you. CTR Night: Talk about as we CTR (Choose The Right) we prepare ourselves to receive a Current Temple Recommend (CTR)
