3 Spaw s Paws Some thoughts from your D.S., Rev. Mark E. Spaw ADVENT THOUGHTS AND CHRISTMAS HOPES Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11) Page 3 Jesus Christ s birth into our world not only splits time and history in two, but comes both as a judgment and redemption for all persons for all time. Do you realize that if all traces of His life were taken from us, museums would b empty, great works of art unpainted or unsculpted, great music silent and great poetry and prose unsaid. Granted this loss would be great, but how would our personal life be different had Jesus not come? Has God been able to come alive in you because His human face and word has made a difference in your life? In our recent events of violence, terror, hatred, and signs of despair has the birth of our Savior made a difference? ONE SOLITARY LIFE Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another obscure village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty, and then for three years He was an itinerant preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never owned a home. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place where He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself. He had nothing to do with this world except the naked power of His divine manhood. While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against Him. His friends ran away, one of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth while He was dying - and that was His coat. When He was dead He was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Twenty wide centuries have come and gone and today He is the centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress. I am far within the mark, when I say that all the armies that ever marched, and all the navies that ever were built, and all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned put together, have not affected the life of man (Humankind) upon this earth as powerfully as has that "One Solitary Life." Author Unknown He has come! He has promised to be with us always..."where meek souls will receive Him still the dear Christ enters in." My hope for you this Advent season is that your faith is deepened, your soul awakened, your heart softened, and your life radically affected because of Christ's presence in your life. May the Christ child, the only one who could have come in such a wonderful way, and may His saving Grace be yours this Advent season and beyond. Merrv Christmas! In the Name of the Christ Child, Rev. Mark E. Spaw, D.S.
