Bill Pollack, Senior Minister Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead, and behold, He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see Him. See, I have told you. (Matthew 28:1-7) We have been on a journey with Jesus as He resolutely made His way to Jerusalem and the cross. We have been participants in the great drama in which we have watched as our Teacher Messiah was nailed to the cross and died an excruciating death in our place. We saw His body taken from the cross and placed in a tomb with a large stone rolled in front of its entrance. And then, we went to our homes and relived the horror of the event over and over in our minds. And then...an announcement! We hear that Jesus is not dead; but has been raised from the grave through the might of God s Spirit. He is alive! Really? Could the news be true? So we go to meet Him and find that the news that seemed too good to be true; is exactly that true! We are glad, overjoyed and somewhat curious. And then He speaks to us in that familiar way. His voice fills our ears with the peaceful sounds of love and comfort. Yes, He is alive. Just when we thought the journey was over; we hear that it is beginning anew with the hope of greater things. So what now? What next? It depends on us! One thing we do know for sure; the journey continues and calls us to a faithful response. Where this road of faith takes us, only the Lord knows for sure. The obstacles that will present themselves for us to navigate will be opportunities to grow. As we walk faithfully in the coming days; know that we do not go it alone. The Holy Spirit is with us. He is our source of strength. These days of Easter will present a greater awareness of God s call upon our lives. Regardless, He will not fail us. This is certainly good news to our hearts. Let us walk as He did resolutely with our face toward the goal of our faith...heaven. Let us be aware of the opportunities that He offers to invite others to join us. Let us live in the reality that the tomb is empty, our Lord is risen, and He is going to continue to walk with us all the way to eternal life. I am excited about the future with Christ. Are you?

3 FCC Welcomes A New Member FCC joyously welcomes Savana Duganne to the life of our church. She joined our church family on Sunday March 4 and was baptized Sunday, March 25. Please be sure to welcome her. You may send a welcome note to: 385 Hwy 172 Hubert, NC Sunrise Service The Community Easter Sunrise Service will be held at Richlands High School Stadium, April 1 at 6:45 a.m. In case of rain, it will be held at First United Methodist Church. Survivor Sunday Sunday, April 8, you are asked to wear something purple in honor of cancer survivors, cancer patients, and their caregivers. Please contact Beverly Black for more information as to how you can help. Craft Bazaar April 14 9am 2pm CLC and Fellowship Hall S.T.A.R.S. NEWS Our movie night was canceled due to a death in our church family. Prayers are still going out to the Linda Maxwell family. The next event will be Sunday, April 15 after 11:00 Worship. So, if you are 55 and over, please come join your fellow S.T.A.R.S. for a delicious Italian dinner. We are excited to be able to server you! Looking forward to seeing our stars! (Angela Bostic) CHEW Report April 2018 First Christian Church continues to collect packages of oatmeal and grits for the children in the Richlands School District. We have collected close to 5,800 packets thus far. Our goal is 8,000 and will assure our school children of healthy eating on the weekends. Breakfast Sunday, April 29 at 9:30, we will be having breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. Please join us for a delicious breakfast consisting of french toast, sausage, and bacon. Concert Avery s Road and Steps to Glory will be singing here at FCC in the Sanctuary, Saturday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. This will be a time of great singing and testimony! You are welcome to bring friends. Donate Your Christmas Cards We continue to collect the fronts of Christmas cards, if there is no writing on the inside, for next year s Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. You can bring Notes of Gratitude We want to thank each of you for all you have done during a time of sorrow and grief. (Doug Maxwell and family of Linda Maxwell) Thank you so much for everything you have done for me and my family! (Stephanie Byrd) Thank you so much for your prayers and love during my time of recovery. Also, thank you so much for the use of your fellowship building for the Praise the Lord event. New Pastor-led Bible Study Offered Pastor Bill will lead a new Bible study, Living the Psalms which will take us into some of the Psalms and how these ancient words can add joy and hope to our lives. This study begins Wednesday, April 11 and will conclude Wednesday, May 23. This will be offered at 9:30 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. Study guides will be given to all participants. 4 Christian Women s Fellowship News Mary Ann Metts, Secretary Our CWF met on Tuesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. with 11 present. Tammy opened with prayer. We shared prayer praises and concerns. Peggy followed with a devotion, The Way of the Cross Leads to God, which was very appropriate for Easter. The scripture came from John 11: 25 & 26. For our first item of old business, Shirley reported the Jacksonville Homeless Shelter is doing very well at this time. No Saturdays are open. She will be checking periodically on their status. Mary Ann reported we have 40 paid spaces already for our craft show in April. We have several applications pending. Due to our DHF (Disciple Heritage Fellowship) Gathering on May 5 th to be held in the Christian Life Center, our dance scheduled for May 4 th has been tabled for now. The last old business item is Father s Day. Brenda Huffman will be asked to order their gifts. There was no new business. Due to illness, our CWF treasurer, Brenda H. was absent. Rosolyn gave us our financial report. In Brenda Pike s absence, Mary Ann gave the Christmas Box report. We agreed to give two monetary gifts for our service projects. One has cancer and the other family has had a lot of medical expenses. After delicious refreshments served by Tammy Gurganus, Shirley offered our closing prayer. Our next meeting is April 10. Peggy Jarman is our hostess. Christian Men s Fellowship Ben Black CMF President. Our March 5 meeting was held with 11 men in attendance. Tom Barbee brought us our devotion, and Pastor Bill Pollack brought us a delicious Snack, Thank you to both of you. On Saturday March 17, we had our Monthly Birthday breakfast at Angie s Restaurant in Jacksonville, with 5 men present. We celebrated the birthdays of; Adam Murphy, Dennis Jones, Mike Gurganus & Patrick Richmond (who the USMC has chosen to reassign to the South Carolina Area, so we will have to really raise our voices, so he can hear us or just catch him on Facebook and wish him a happy birthday). Happy Birthday to all our Men who are another day older, and another year wiser. Those birthday men who could not make it, we also held them up and wished them a happy birthday, even if they had other commitments, or chose to be elsewhere. Our April Birthday Breakfast will be on the 21, at 7:30 am. We will be celebrating the birthdays of: Tim Padgett, Jordan Newbury, Duane Taylor, Samuel Jones, Colton Metts, Ben Black and Elwood Jarman. And if I have missed anyone I do apologize because I do want to wish each & every one of you a very happy birthday and more to come. Please come on out to Angie s on the third Saturday of each month at 7:30 AM, (we start gathering shortly after 7:00 am) and enjoy the fellowship and a FREE BREAKFAST (for your Birthday). Our Soup and Sandwich on the 4 of March, after the 11:00 service was a success, but it would not have been, if not for all of you coming out to enjoy the good food and good fellowship. A special thank you to all who provided soup, sandwiches or deserts, and all those who cleaned up afterward. As you are reading this, I hope your Easter was wonderful. I hope you took a moment to remember the sacrifice our Lord and Savior Jesus gave for us. Let us remember the fact that He took on all our sins and bore the burden upon himself to pay the price so that we can receive the ultimate gift of eternal salvation. But I am thankful that the tomb is empty, and we have a risen savior. Our April meeting will be on 2 April. at 7:00 pm. Bob James will bring us our devotion and Ben Black will bring the snack.
