It was a vacation full of fun, adventures, rain, snow, cold and family. We didn t have a map but we did have me GPS. GPS units are wonderful and get you where you want to go, not always by the best roads or the most direct route, but they get you there. If we willing go wherever God leads us our route may not be on the most well-traveled roads or the most direct route but if we keep going we will eventually get there. Yes, we will eventually get where God want us to be. It is wonderful to know that God is so caring and patient. He leadeth me: O blessed thought! O words with heavenly comfort fraught! Whatever I do, wherever I be, still tis God s hand that Leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me. His faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth men. Ad Board Meeting on July 18th at 7:00 PM Be ready for the Cotton Candy Booth in August Successful Rummage Sale The rummage and bake sale held in the church basement on April 22 and 23 was a huge success! The main dining room was filled to capacity with housewares; toys, games, and books; all kinds of décor; personal items; crafts & hobbies; collectibles; furniture, and lots of miscellaneous items. The bake sale held just outside the kitchen featured a wonderful selection of cookies, scones, cakes, rolls, and other sweet nibbles. Overall, the sale brought in over $1500: $1,230 for the rummage sale and $321 for the bake sale. Our only expenses were for the newspaper advertising, so we cleared a very nice profit. Plus, we cleared out some closets and corners in the church and in our homes. When the sale was over, we delivered two loads of items to the Attic. 4 It s the United Methodist Women s Annual Bake-less Sale!! Wait a minute In the heat of summer, no one likes to cook, So our fund-raising takes on a different look. Bake sales usually make a lot of money, But who wants to bake when it s hot and sunny? Our bakeless bake sale is just the very thing To take out much of the summer s hot sting. Don t get your kitchen all steamed up But price those ingredients, cup by cup. Send that money to the church instead Of baking pies or banana bread. Besides, you won t have to keep your spouse From eating the goodies baked in your house. So, how about helping the church and yourself By leaving those baking pans right on the shelf. Send the funds, but not the cake; Remember--- You don t need to bake! We appreciate the contributions and help you have given to all the projects and missions of United Methodist Women in the past. Your contribution to the Bake-less Sale can be mailed to: United Methodist Women PO Box 200, Glendive, MT You can also give it to Millie Robinson, or to JoAnn Hunt at Church Office, but. 5 Memorials are a way to celebrate a significant occasion, remember a loved one, or honor someone special with an honor or memorial gift in their name. The Church uses memorial gifts for special items or projects that are beyond the annual budget. You can specify a use for the donation if you wish (such as a particular building project or a part of the church, such as the organ or children s programs) or you can make it as an undesignated gift. Acknowledgement cards are sent to the family and the memorials are listed permanently in a Memorial Book at the church. She asked if they would do her a favor! It would be to go to every table at Coffee Hour and say, Happy Mother s Day! to all the ladies and they did a wonderful job! 6 What United Methodist Women Fund If you have computer access you can easily see where the money we raise for UMW goes. Check this website for a map that shows projects in the US. Click on the green Mission Maps tab to see maps that show worldwide projects of United Methodist Women. At least 60% of our local budget and specially designated gifts are sent to the District and Conference to help support these programs for women & children. Most of the other 30-40% goes to support local church, community & state prgrams. When you support United Methodist Women, you are part of something much larger! Father s Day In 1910, a Father's Day celebration was held in Spokane, Washington, at the YMCA by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, Her father, the civil war veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children there. After hearing a sermon about Jarvis' Mother's Day in 1909 at Central Methodist Episcopal Church, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father's birthday, the pastors did not have enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third of June. Several local clergymen accepted the idea, and on June 19, 1910, the first Father's Day, "sermons honoring fathers were presented throughout the city." In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third in June as Father's Day. Six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in (Wikipedia) Financial Status of the Church Budgeted monthly amount needed per month: $8, March: Income - $4, Expenses - $11, April: Income - $20, Vacation Bible School 2016! Zion Lutheran, United Methodist, and First Congregational Churches welcome all area youth to Vacation Bible School 2016! Day camp is scheduled for Monday, June 20th - Thursday, June 23rd at Zion Lutheran Church, 401 Riverview Ave. For pre-schoolers (ages 3-5), our camp day will be from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, & K-5th (grade for school year) attend from 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM. Badlands Ministries staff will lead this program for children in pre-school (3 years of age) through 5th grade and their friends! Youth who have completed 6th grade and up are invited to serve as Staff in Training. Each day is action-packed with Bible stories, crafts, indoor and outdoor games, songs, and more! It will be a great week for all kids in the community! Thanks to generous local fundraising, a week of Day Camp costs $15.00 per youth and includes a camp T- shirt. 7 New 50-Year Members On, May 22, we recognized five people for being members of the Glendive United Methodist Church for over fifty years! Although only three were able to attend the service, all five have been faithful members for those years. These names have been added to the plaque in the main hallway of the church: Gordon Turner joined in 1963 Iris Milne joined in 1964 Ron Haugeberg joined in 1965 Joan Haugeberg joined in 1965 Doug Vashus joined in 1966 These five people join a long list of others in the 50-Year Member list. The next time you are in the hallway (across from the church secretary s office), look at the plaques that hang there. They show a little slice of the history of our church. Congratulations to these five faithful church members who have now been added! We send leaders to serve disciples who offer the gospel to the world. Yellowstone Conference Mission Statement We are one of many annual conferences in the United States that comprise The United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Church was formed when the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged in But we trace our heritage back to the movement begun in 1729 in England by John and Charles Wesley. Bishop Elaine J. W. Stanovsky leads our conference. We are part of the Mountain Sky Area, made up of the Yellowstone Annual Conference & The Rocky Mountain Annual Conference. The Yellowstone Annual Conference is made up of 126 churches in Montana, northern Wyoming and a small section of Idaho with a total of 13,602 lay members. The Conference is divided into three districts: Western Mountains, Northern Plains and the Big Horn.
