1 Fall Quarterly Session Illinois District Council Missionary & Women s Auxiliary Newsletter October 1, 2008 Welcome Bishop and First Lady Davis! The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delighteth in his way. Ps. 37:23. The state of Illinois continues to be favored with godly leadership. On Friday, July 11, 2008, the Lord ordered the steps of Bishop Charles E. Davis to the helm of the Illinois District Council. During our annual summer session Bishop Davis was installed as diocesan of the 6th Episcopal District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc Saved since 1954, Bishop Davis has been blessed to Pastor the Indiana Avenue Pentecostal Church since He was elevated to the bishopric of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and eighty-six. Davis Having served as the diocesan of the Wyoming District Council and the Pacific Northwest District Council, in March of 1988 Bishop Davis began his tenure of dedicated service as diocesan of the 1st Episcopal District; Continue to Column 2 Continued from Column 1 encompassing the state of New York and Canada. Bishop Davis exemplifies the integrity, fortitude, tenacity, strength, vision and courage of a man whom God has appointed to lead, educate and encourage His people. Those who are blessed to know him will readily attest to his willingness to always express an undying love for God, His church and His people. Bishop Davis continues to support God s people as well as reach out into the community at large offering assistance and encouragement to all whom he encounters. Bishop Davis and his faithful and committed wife, Dr. Jessie Davis, have accepted the mission to return to his roots and serve God s people of the 6th Episcopal District. On behalf of the IDCMWA, we are grateful to God for the Honorable Bishop Charles E. Davis and First Lady Jessie Davis. Welcome Home! Welcome Home! From The President s Desk... Greetings in the precious name of Jesus! Welcome Pres. Barbara E. Garrison to the fall session of the Illinois District Council. Once again we are blessed by God to come together for a time of fellowship, praise and worship. It is through no goodness of our own; but as a result of the riches of God s love, grace and mercy. Although many are experiencing difficult times, we continue to find strength and encouragement in the word of God and in the house of the Lord. The scripture tells us that it is God s will for us to prosper and be in health, even as our soul prospers. Regardless of what we hear or see in the media, we must remember that it is God s plan for us to prosper in all areas of life. Each time we come together we must determine to be a source of strength and encouragement to one another. A kind word goes a long way to a brother or sister who has been pressed down by difficult circumstances of life. A warm, friendly smile will often lift the spirits of someone who is in the day-to-day struggle to survive. That personal testimony Continue on Page 2

2 From the Vice President s Desk... Greetings in Jesus Name, Thanks be to God who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! I am still rejoicing over the wonderful time we had during the July Council, and also praising Him for a safe trip to and from the international convention in Dallas, TX where the spirit moved in a mighty way. We are now looking forward to what the Lord has in store for the IDCMWA during the coming year. Let s continue to pray and believe for God to manifest His power in an even greater way. No wonder the enemy tries to keep us from coming to the house of the Lord. The scripture tells us forsake not to assemble yourselves together. Make up your mind today don t allow the enemy to hinder you from assembling with believers of like faith on a regular basis. There are blessings that await us in the House of the Lord! 4 Adopt-a-Center Update God is great and greatly to be praised! We are happy to report the success of our Back-to-School sponsorship program. As a result of your continued support and generosity, we were able to meet a great need at the shelter. Each child of school age was able to start the school year ON TIME with all of their necessary supplies. Their eyes were aglow as they received their back-pack which was filled with school supplies and 2 school uniforms. Photographer: C. Walker Getting to Know Mother Hazel Bracy IMCWA Pentecostal Pearl To know Mother Bracy is to love her. No matter where you see her, she portrays godly love and kindness. Saved since 1976, Mother Bracy has been a faithful member of the Indiana Avenue Pentecostal Church since that time. All who know Mother Bracy agree that she is a faithful servant of God. She is an example to young and old alike that we must remain faithful to God, who is always faithful to us. Mother Bracy knows how to endure hardness as a good soldier ; always remaining positive no matter what the test or challenge. She serves as a living testimony to what faith and prayer will do. Mother Bracy remains active in her church. She currently serves as secretary of her Sunday school class, member of the missionary choir, women s choir, and the Golden VIP s. After 32 years, she continues to be a supportive member of her church who prays for her pastor and the saints of God. For the past 15 years Mother Bracy has been an active and supportive member of the Illinois District Council Missionary & Women s Auxiliary and the IMCWA. Thank God for Mother Hazel Bracy. She has not slowed down in her works for the Lord. To Mother Bracy we say, Thank you for being a source of encouragement. May you continue to do great works for the Lord as He continues to bless you. Congratulations on your recent induction into the IMCWA Pentecostal Pearls during our Summer Convention 2008 in Dallas, Texas. 6

7 P.A.W. Convention H I G H L I G H T S Our Annual Summer Convention 2008 was held August 2 9, 2008 in hot, hot, hot Dallas, TX. The theme for the Convention was Empowering God s People Building God s Kingdom! During today s business session we will revisit the convention by way of the report given by First Lady Maxine Williams of Bethel Apostolic Church of Peoria, Illinois, who served as our delegate to the International Missionary & Christian Women s Auxiliary. I.M.C.W.A used the theme Repositioning Myself for My Time ; and for the sub theme, Empowered by Truth, thy Word is Truth. As always, Illinois was well represented. Our own President, Sister Garrison presented during the I.M.C.W.A. Empowerment Zone V using the topic Be Still and Be Triumphant Over the Battles of the Mind. Each year, recognition is given to the large, medium and small council for outstanding contributions made at the previous convention. Because of your continued support, we brought home the plaque for the large council with the greatest amount of contributions to the International Ways & Means from convention 2007 in Nashville, Tennessee. Special thanks to all delegates from Illinois who participated in the Parade of States (Texas roundup style)!
