9 Utah Association Of Counties Utah Association of Counties (UAC) is a voluntary, not-for-profit corporation, operated by the 29 counties of the state of Utah. UAC was established in 1923 by elected county officials to assist counties in providing effective county governance to the people of Utah. The Association is governed by a Board of Directors, composed of 37 members, including five designated officers and the UAC Chief Executive Officer. The membership consists primarily of the nearly 300 elected county officials serving in Utah, but also includes departmental directors and deputy staff who are appointed to county positions. UAC s mission: To advance county issues with the state and federal government, improve public understanding of county government, assist all 29 counties to develop and share solutions through research and education, and provide effective support services to county officials to foster public trust and improve the efficiency of county government. UAC accomplishes that mission with legislative and educational initiatives, designed to unify and strengthen county governance in Utah. Along with providing daily legislative advocacy and support, the Association staff also facilitates year-round education in a variety of formats that focuses on issues, procedures, and best practices for officials. UAC also works to strengthen understanding of county government to a variety of other groups, including the general citizens of Utah, the media, state legislators, and other key local, state, and national government personnel and policy-makers.
