Beginning in September, TLC will gather for worship at 10:00 a.m. Once Sunday School begins, it will precede worship the hour before. Our worship time of 8:30 a.m. remains in effect through the end of August. Congregational Meeting following worship Sunday, September 17 TLC Council voted to hold a Special Meeting of the Congregation on Sunday, September 17 for the purpose of discussion and a vote on whether or not to allow the pastor to preside at same-gender weddings. TLC Council will develop resources to be made available after its August Council Meeting. Supportive resources can also be found on the Same-Gender/LGBTQ tab on our website: FairburyTLC.com The time leading up to and including September 17 allows TLC the opportunity to speak and listen to one another as brothers and sisters in Christ, or to attack other s personal positions at the cost of our relationship as a people of God. 5 The staff of our local Memorial Home are second to none. I appreciate the respect, professional touch, personal care, and honor with which they serve our communities. And you know many more who have joined the saints in light, in addition to these, during these last 15½ years. Every funeral is the same. Every funeral is unique. Every funeral is the same in that it is a time of heartache, and it is a time we hold fast to the promise of life in Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Every funeral is unique in that every person is unique, and so the joys and sorrows of their story touches our life and story uniquely, too. There have been a few times that I have been very grateful for the tents at the cemetery, most of all when it is raining. Sometimes however, there are so many people offering their respect that there is not enough room under the shelter. But most times there is sufficient room for everyone. And here is a curious thing to me: our funeral directors invite everyone to come in closer at the cemetery, and to come under the cover of canvas when it is raining. Even when there is room enough, some people will not. Maybe the vision I have of the church is completely askew, but one of the things I appreciate about our denomination is that it is like that tent, like an umbrella. There is a tolerance and respect for people holding differing beliefs, and yet the tent is big enough to fit all who believe in Christ crucified, all who believe we are justified by grace through faith. Can that be our model at TLC? People do not have to stay out from under cover. All for whom Christ died are welcome in this tent. There is room for you. Pastor Tom

School supplies will be going on sale soon. We need the following items for school kits: Spiral notebooks, pencil sharpeners, pencils, pens, rulers and crayons 16 to 24 pack Donations may be left on the pew in the narthex. Items needed for other kits will be shared in future bulletins and in the newsletter. Thanks for your help! Quilts will also be sent to LWR. From 2003 until now, 2,734 quilts have been made by our sewing group! Judy Smith and Kay Hammer recently represented our congregation at the Women of the ELCA Triennial Churchwide Gathering held in Minneapolis. The theme was All Anew.
