3 WORSHIP NOTES The flowers in the Sanctuary today are given to the glory of God and in memory of Nick Marcopulos by Cathy Higgins. Sanctuary Flowers - Consider giving the flowers for Sunday worship to remember or honor loved ones or to celebrate an event, while expressing praise and thanksgiving to God. Please contact Linda Watson during business hours at or lwatson@ycst.com. Available dates are June 2, 9, 23, and 30. All children who leave the sanctuary after Time with Children need to have a completed yellow security label on their back. This policy is for your child s protection. Thank you for your help. Are you wearing a nametag? Whether you are a long-time member or new to the church, wearing a nametag provides others the opportunity to meet you, greet you by name, and for you to become more familiar with others at church. You will find nametags and markers in baskets at all major entrances. Worship Resources You may obtain large print hymnals and hearing devices from any usher. Worship bags for children ages 3-6 include a children s bulletin designed for them. Also, children s bulletins for ages 7-12 are available from the ushers. CONGREGATIONAL CARE AND PRAYER Please remember in your prayers: Those recently hospitalized: Doris Corner. Afghanistan often seems far away, and we may neglect to realize that Americans, as well as Afghans and members of coalition forces, continue to die. As Christians, we are called to pray for the spreading of peace and justice and an end to violence. If someone in your family is serving in the military, please let us know, so that we may include that person on our prayer list. Contact Colleen Falasco: ext. 131, or cfalasco@wpc.org. This week we pray for Those known to the WPC Community presently serving in Afghanistan: Brendan Bowen, Edward Maloney, Ann Exline Starr, Steve Wilson The families of those from the U.S. who have died recently: Staff Sergent Nelson Trent, age 37, of Austin, Texas Lieutenant Leonard Robinson, age 29, of Spring Lake, North Carolina Comander Job Price, age 42, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania Those who have returned from service, possibly suffering from wounds or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, whose scars may by deep and long-lasting. 3
4 ORDER OF WORSHIP TOWER CHIME Craig Checkel (8:45) Sue Spilecki (10:45) PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP Give me courage to bear uncertainty with hope and long delays with patience. Give me courage to keep on trusting when I cannot understand. William Barclay PRELUDE MUSIC (Trumpets & Organ) Concerto in D major Georg Philipp Telemann I. Largo II. Allegro III. Adagio IV. Presto (Organ) Fantasy on Easter Hymn William H. Harris CALL TO WORSHIP Dare we approach the dark places in our lives? We have heard whispers that light has overcome the darkness. Dare we let go of fear and sadness? We have heard whispers of an empty tomb. Today we gather to declare the good news of our faith: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! *PROCESSIONAL HYMN Thine Is the Glory JUDAS MACCABEUS arr. Domecq Smith Thine is the glory, Risen, conquering Son, Endless is the victory Thou o er death hast won. Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away. Kept the folded grave-clothes Where Thy body lay. Thine is the glory, Risen, conquering Son, Endless is the victory Thou o er death hast won. Lo! Jesus meets us, Risen from the tomb; Lovingly He greets us, Scatters fear and gloom. Let the church with gladness Hymns of triumph sing, For the Lord now liveth; Death hath lost its sting. Thine is the glory, Risen, conquering Son, Endless is the victory Thou o er death hast won. No more we doubt Thee, Glorious Prince of life! Life is nought without thee; Aid us in our strife. Make us more than conquerors Through thy deathless love; Bring us safe through Jordan To Thy home above. Thine is the glory, Risen, conquering Son, Endless is the victory Thou o er death hast won. 4
5 PRAYER Eternal God, the world is constantly hurling darkness our way: wars drag on endlessly, illnesses cut lives short, sparks of violence flare in our community and your creation is under assault. If it were not for our faith we would turn cynical, and if it were not for your love we would surrender to despair. Living Lord, we give thanks for the promise of Easter that death does not have the final word. We rejoice in Christ s resurrection that nothing can separate us from you. Help us to embrace your promise of new life so that we can live each day in hope and in joy. Amen. ANTHEM Life Is Given, Hallelujah! Russell Nagy Westminster Choir Lea McGowan, liturgical dance Hail most holy day Christ was raised, Free from the hold of death, triumphed o er the grave. He is risen, Hallelujah! Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. Life is given, Hallelujah! Christ is risen from the dead. As the women came at the break of day wond ring how would they roll the stone away? They were struck with fear when a man appeared saying, He whom you seek is not here. TIME WITH OUR CHILDREN Susan Moseley SCRIPTURE LESSON Mark 16:1-8 New Testament, page 47 Dave Mathé, Lay Reader (9:00) Jen Barrington, Lay Reader (11:00) *HYMN All People That on Earth Do Dwell OLD HUNDREDTH arr. Ralph Vaughan Williams All Choir All All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; Him serve with fear, his praise forth tell, Come ye before him, and rejoice. The Lord, ye know, is God indeed, Without our aid he did us make; We are his folk, he doth us feed, And for his sheep he doth us take. O enter then his gates with praise, Approach with joy his courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless his name always, For it is seemly so to do. For why? the Lord our God is good: His mercy is forever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure. To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, The God whom heav n and earth adore, From mortals and from angel host Be praise and glory evermore. 5
6 EASTER MESSAGE Because... Greg Jones *HYMN Christ the Lord Is Risen Today! EASTER HYMN arr. John Ness Beck Choir All Why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou? He is not here, for He is risen! Alleluia. (Organ/Brass interlude) Christ the Lord is ris n today, Alleluia! All creation join to say; Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high; Alleluia! Sing, ye heav ns, and earth reply, Alleluia! Lives again our glorious King: Alleluia! Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia! Once He died our souls to save; Alleluia! Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia! Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia! Following our exalted Head; Alleluia! Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia! Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. Alleluia! *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH OFFERTORY We trust in Jesus Christ, God with us in human flesh, who proclaimed the reign of God. He preached good news to the poor and release to the captives; He healed the sick and ate with outcasts; He forgave sinners and called all people to repent and believe. Condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified. But God raised him from the dead, vindicating his life, breaking the power of sin and evil, and delivering us from death to eternal life. A Brief Statement of Faith, PCUSA During the offering, please sign your name and pass the red folder down your row. As folders are returned to the center aisle, note the names of fellow worshippers on your pew. OFFERTORY ANTHEM Let the Bright Seraphim Malcolm Archer Let the bright seraphim in burning row, their loud uplifted angel trumpets blow. Ring out, ye crystal spheres, and bless our human ears; and let your silver chime move in melodious time. If ye have no power to touch our senses so, let the bass of heaven s mighty organ blow! And with the cherubim, and nine-fold harmony, Heav nly Host make up the full consort of the angelic symphony. And above him stood the seraphim, one came unto the other and said; Christ is risen! Halleluia! 6
