Superintendents Conference June 2013 A warm welcome to you all
Holy Communion Superintendents Conference June 2013
Welcome Welcome to our worship as we celebrate the Eucharist. God the creator is a gracious, abundant and generous host. We are invited to be guests at his table.
HYMN Thine be the Glory
Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son; Endless is the victory thou o er death hast won; Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, Kept the folded grave clothes where thy body lay:
Thine is the glory, risen conquering Son, Endless is the victory thou o er death hast won.
Lo, Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb; Lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom; Let the church with gladness hymns of triumph sing, For her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting.
Thine is the glory, risen conquering Son, Endless is the victory thou o er death hast won.
No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of Life; Life is nought without thee; aid us in our strife; Make us more than conquerors, through thy deathless love; Bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above.
Thine is the glory, risen conquering Son, Endless is the victory thou o er death hast won. 313, Singing the Faith Compilation 2011, Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes Methodist Church CCL Edmond L. Budry ( ) Tr. Richard B. Hoyle ( )
Opening Prayer Eternal God, fling open the doors of our hearts to the weather of your Spirit. Lead us out beneath the dancing sky and wind across the stumbling ground of our reality to where the sound of worship never ceases And the view stretches further than the human eye can see. Through Christ the faithful witness. Amen.
Kyrie Eleison Kyrie, elesion! Lord, have mercy! Christe, eleison! Christ, have mercy! Kyrie, elesion! Lord, have mercy!
Kyrie Eleison May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and keep us in life eternal. Amen.
Reading from God s Word Old Testament: Jeremiah 29:4-13 Gospel: John 1:1-14
Sermon
Prayer of Intercession Gracious God, whose Spirit helps us in our weakness and guides us in our prayers, we pray for the Church and for the world in the name of Jesus Christ.
Prayer of Intercession Renew the life and faith of the Church; strengthen our witness, and make us one with Christ. Grant that we and all who confess that Christ is Lord may be faithful in your service and filled with your Spirit, that the world may be turned to you. Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer
Prayer of Intercession Guide the nations In the ways of justice, liberty and peace; and help them to seek the unity and welfare of all people. Give to all in authority wisdom to know and strength to do what is right Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer
Prayer of Intercession Comfort those in sorrow; heal the sick in body or in mind Grant us compassion for all who suffer, and help us to carry one another s burdens that we may fulfil the law of Christ. Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer
Prayer of Intercession Receive our thanks and praise for all who have faithfully served you here on earth, and especially those who have revealed to us your grace in Christ. May we and all your people share the life and joy of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Lord s Prayer Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done On earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins As we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial And deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, Now and forever. Amen.
The Peace
HYMN Because you have said
Because You have said: 'Do this for my sake,' the mystical bread we gladly partake; we thirst for the Spirit that flows from above, and long to inherit your fullness of love.
It's here we look up to grasp at your mind; it's here that we hope your image to find; the means of bestowing your gifts we embrace; but all things are owing to Jesus' grace. Charles Wesley ( ) 574, Singing the Faith Compilation 2011, Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes Methodist Church CCL
The Lord is here God s Spirit is with us Lift up your hearts We lift them up to God Prayer of Thanksgiving Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give God thanks and praise
Prayer of Thanksgiving O Lord our God, sustainer of the universe, By your word all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space; galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth. By your will they were created and have their being.
Prayer of Thanksgiving Redeemer God, word become flesh, we remember you in bread and wine; your body, your blood, Broken, so we with all creation may be made perfect. Through your sacrifice death is annulled
Prayer of Thanksgiving Through your resurrection we have a future. Therefore all that lives for you, we proclaim how wonderful you are; we pour out our thanks to you in song that never sleeps: Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might Heaven and earth are full of your glory Hosanna in the highest
Prayer of Thanksgiving And now we ask that by the power of your Holy Spirit This bread and wine may be to us Christ s body and his blood; Who, on the night that he was handed over to suffering and death, Took bread and gave you thanks. Broke it and gave it to his disciples saying Take, eat. This is my body given for you. Do this in memory of me.
Prayer of Thanksgiving Later after supper he took the cup of wine, thanked you, and gave it to them saying Drink this all of you, this is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this whenever you drink it in memory of me.
Christ has died, Christ is risen Christ will come again
Prayer of Thanksgiving In this place where heaven and earth meet in this sharing of bread and wine future hope becomes reality now. So bring your scorched earth bring your harvest bring your open sky bring your restless guilty waters bring your swift unbending road bring your urgent inner city to the table where our host says I make all things new
Prayer of Thanksgiving Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world Have mercy on us
Bread and wine are shared
After Communion Prayer All-saving God, Thank You for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ Whose death and resurrection have purchased the future healing of all things. We who have tasted the coming Kingdom Offer ourselves as its bearers and signs in the power of your Spirit And as lovers and guardians of all that you have made until you come.
Amen. Come Lord Jesus.
HYMN Captain of Israel s Host
Captain of Israel's host and Guide Of all who seek the land above, Beneath thy shadow we abide, the cloud of thy protecting love; Our strength, thy grace; our rule, thy word; Our end, the glory of the Lord.
By thine unerring Spirit led, We shall not in the desert stray; We shall not full direction need, Nor miss our providential way; As far from danger as from fear While love, almighty love, is near. 459, Singing the Faith Compilation 2011, Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes Methodist Church CCL Charles Wesley ( )
May the extravagant love of God Fill your hearts and minds, and God s embrace hold you. Blessing When you feel unworthy to be called God s When you feel unworthy to be called God s son or daughter May the friendship of Jesus Christ your brother Rid you of any notion that you are only a slave
Blessing And may you find your home in and with God in his kingdom. May the Spirit of God release you From a world of mere duty So that new joy and freedom wells up in your life and ministry And the blessing of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be among us and remain with us always. Amen
