Box 30032, San Bernardino, CA U.S.A ~567~8038 SECOND QUARTER 2011 I greet you in the name of the Beloved Martyred Saint Eugene. I pray that this issue of the New Byzantine finds each Knight and their families in good health and spirits at the beginnings of a new year. I am sorry that this issue is a little tardy. In mid-february, as I was preparing the first draft of this issue, I became quite ill with an upper rsprotarity infection. For about four weeks, it was impossible for me to do anything. The doctor filled me with medicine, so I recovered. However, I do pray that I never through this again. After I started to feel better, I needed to visit my father a number of times. He is 94 years old. He lives 450 miles from me in Northern California. He is still living alone in the house that he has lived in for the past 40 years. Since I drove, it took me a full day each way, and my stay was always at least 5 days, so each trip took me at least one week. Then my wife fell when part of our fish pond patio gave away. She has a major concussion which has severely limited her activities. All in all, the first six months of this year has been filled with much excitement.

3 There are a number of items in this issue that I hope you will find interesting. We have some pictures of HI&RH Princess Susana Frangipane Anjou Manlius Torquatus von Radic of Croatia and her husband visiting with our Grand Master. We continue our series on Ancient Orders and information on a new Knight of our Order. If you have not visited our website, please do. This has been a work of love by Sir Robert Cowan, and he has done a great job. If you do not have access to the internet, Sir Robert has completed an Informational Manuel that has most of the internet information. If you would like one of these manuals, just contact me. 4 Royal Visit HI&RH Princess Susana Frangipane Anjou Manlius Torquatus von Radic of Croatia and her husband, His Grace Sir Alexander Avila Bautista, Duke of Amorebia and Marquis of Alvarez were the guest of our Prince Grand Master HI&RH Prince Juan Arcadio Lascaris~Comnenus in January of this year. Princess Susana reported that this was a most enjoyable time.

5 Archangel Michael Michael (Hebrew מ יכ א ל (pronounced, Micha'el or Mîkhā'él; Greek: Μιχαήλ, Mikhaḗl; Latin: Michael or Míchaël; Arabic:, Mîkhā'êl) is an archangel in Jewish and Christian tradition. He is viewed as the field commander of the Army of God. He is mentioned by name in the Book of Daniel, the Book of Jude, and the Book of Revelation, in which he leads God's armies against Satan's forces during his uprising. In the book of Daniel, Michael appears as "one of the chief princes" who in Daniel's vision comes to Gabriel's aid in his contest with the angel of Persia (Dobiel). Michael is also described there as the advocate of the Children of Israel and as a "great prince who stands up for the children of your [Daniel's] people.
