3 Camp Mimanagish Summer 2018 Youth Camps Grade Camp 9, 10, 11, 12: July 8 - July 14 Grade Camp 2, 3: July 17 - July 21 Grade Camp 4, 5: July 22 - July 28 Grade Camp 6, 7, 8: July 29 - August 4 For registration and/or more information go to There are scholarships for all the youth who attend from our congregation. There are a number of adult and family camps scheduled before and after the above camps. For a complete schedule of camps, there are schedules in the office or check the web site above. Recently, there was an inquiry concerning William Howard Watson. After locating the correct records for the Congregational Church with minutes from the annual meetings, I found that William Watson was called to minister to the church for a few weeks and then officially as pastor to Red Lodge beginning September 1, He and Mrs. Watson came from Valley Springs, South Dakota and were voted in as members September 16, According to the inquirer, Rev. Watson was called to be a missionary to Native Americans. According to the (handwritten) Constitution the name of the church was the Congregational Church of Red Lodge, Montana. The Constitution, Confession of Faith and Covenant were adopted on March 30, A meeting was held January 18, From the proceedings: The church was organized March 30th The Rev. Chas. Linley (episcopalian) had been holding the only regular services held in Red Lodge on the second and fourth Sabbaths of each month. As there was but the one building in which services could be held Congregational services were held during April on the first and third Sabbaths. May 1st the Rev. Wm. Howard Watson arrived; and the building known as Blackburn s Hall, just completed, was rented by the trustees of the Cong. Ch. and from May 1st until Jan. 4th 1891 was used by the Cong. Ch. for morning and evening services. January 4th 1891 the first Sabbath services were held in the new church. The cornerstone was laid Oct. 12th Rev. B W. Bueleigh of Billings assisted in the services. A letter was granted to Rev. and Mrs. Watson to unite with the Congregational Church in Roseland, Louisiana March 16, Rev. Watson served also as moderator for most of the church meetings. Letters of dismissal were granted to the Watson s daughters June 18, In the early years, the church applied for grants from Congregational Home Missionary Society in New York City to meet church expenses, especially the pastor s salary. Often in July and August, the Wednesday prayer meetings were cancelled. Officers elected to the church annually were one or more deacons, a clerk, a treasurer and three trustees, one of whom may be outside of the church. Meetings were held following morning or evening services or evening prayer services. Many of the meetings were to accept or dismiss members. The records are interesting and sometimes difficult to read being scripted in long-hand. I found the registers especially interesting. The register of marriages lists not only the couples names, but their ages, birthplaces, parents names, and whether it was a first marriage or there was a previous marriage, also who, when and where the ceremony took place. 4 Red Lodge Community Church Council Minutes April 10, 2018 The meeting was called to order by Moderator, Debbie Awes. Pastor Chuck opened with a prayer. In attendance: Debbie Awes, Pastor Chuck Aurand, Yvonne Jensen, Shirley Quinn, Dixie McCampbell, Debbie Tomicich, Erinn Ackley, Alicia Angell, and Renee Gabrian. Minutes of the meeting were reviewed. Debbie Tomicich moved the minutes be approved as written, seconded, and motion passed. Financial Secretary: Debbie has no new report. Christian Education: Alicia reported she and Erinn are resigning as co-chairs of this committee as of An Easter egg hunt was held with 7 children attending. Third graders will receive Bibles at church service. The last day of class will be They have followed an online curriculum that coincides with Pastor Chuck s services and will give this education web site to Pastor Chuck to be passed on to new chairperson. They will pursue their replacement with other church school parents. Many thank yous to Alicia and Erinn for their dedication and time to Christian Education of our children were expressed. Treasurer: Shirley reports total expenses of $40,478.05, under budgeted amount of $41, Pastor: Pastor Chuck reported it was a delightful Easter season and thanked members for the wonderful brunch and Church decorations. An organizational meeting for Lunch In the Sun will be held at the Community Foundation building on at 12:30 PM. The Annual Parks Cleanup will be at Skateboard Park. Reverend Marc Stewart will be preaching at the service and take the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. Moderator: Debbie reported the Personnel Committee met for staff issues and will be meeting again. A special Council meeting with Rev. Stewart will be held following services on for guidance and advice with Pastor transition. A Pastor Search Committee is being formed and Don Kinney, Yvonne Jensen have agreed to serve and Debbie is awaiting response from others. Dispersion of Bazaar funds of $ was discussed. Yvonne motioned that 10% of funds go to the Lunch In the Sun program with remainder going to the general fund, seconded, and motion carried. An Exit Interview with Pastor Chuck with Personnel Committee and others will be in near future. A letter to the congregation will be dispersed regarding Pastor transition. Diaconate: Report is on file Facilities Management: Report is on file. Pastor Chuck reported a new coffee maker has been obtained and for members to review instructions. Yvonne reported an ice machine will be obtained in the near future. Stewardship and Missions: Pastor Chuck reported the committee met this month discussing One Great Hour of Sharing and determined a timetable for the annual Stewardship Campaign. Bylaw: Pastor Chuck reported the committee has met and Jay West is doing a wonderful job moving into a leadership role. Finance: Dixie reviewed the recommendations for 2018 Endowment expenditures of $15, Please see the attached report. A new Church Directory without pictures and accurate listing as member, associate member, or friend of the Church, was discussed and will be referred to the Diaconate Committee. Dixie moved the Finance Committee recommendations for 2018 Endowment expenditures be approved, seconded, and motion carried. An Endowment Standing Rule recommendation was handed out for Council members to review and will be voted on at the next regular Council meeting.
