A sign-up sheet is available on the back table in the sanctuary. Thank you! Mystery Dinner to be Held at St. Paul s The Fellowship Committee wants to invite you to a multi-course MYSTERY DINNER On Sunday, February 11 At 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Church. You will be presented a menu from which you will place your order. The mystery is in deciphering the disguised menu items, including the utensils. We will also need some "co-conspirators" for the venture. This group will help with the serving and be in the kitchen. (This group eats w/o the mystery). This is an outreach event. Our goal is to enjoy fellowship and laughter. All ages are welcome and guests are encouraged. Two Sign-up sheets will be on the back table. One is for meal reservations and the other is to help serve. You can also call Lenten Adult Ed is Coming! We will be having a threeweek series studying the Book of Revelation in Lent on Mondays at in the church sanctuary. Revelation is one of the most widely misunderstood, wild, and mysterious books in the entire Bible. Come join the fun! the church office ( ) and leave your name and number of persons attending. Registration deadline is Monday, February 5. Meal price is a freewill donation. We Look forward to seeing you on February 11 at 5:00pm! -St. Paul s Fellowship Committee We will again try to make childcare available during that hour. The first Adult Ed. session will take place on Monday, February 19th. All are welcome!

2 January Council Meeting Minutes January 4th Members Present: Sam P, Bob M, Pr Joe, Kori G, Jonathon M, Ken W, Katerri F, Dan F, Judi F, Mike S. Incoming Council: Cade Fish President Sam called the meeting to order. Pastor Joe gave devotions. Secretary Report: Dec. minutes approved as printed. Motion to approve Secretary s report made by Bob. Ken seconded. Treasurer s Report: Beginning Balance Dec. 1st: $4, Month Income: $ 33, Expenses: $20, Funds Available: $44, Transfers: ($23,586.54) Transfers: $7, Balance on Hand December 31st: $1, Motion to approve Treasurer s report made by Ken. Mike seconded. Approved. Old Business: Communion: Starting in January 2018 there will be Communion every Sunday at St. Paul s. Annual Report Deadline: December 29, Paternity Leave: When Pr Joe is on partial paternity leave, communion will not be held when we have pulpit supply. Parsonage Basement: Council was updated on the status of the upgrade for the parsonage basement; projected start date is February. A $250 card from Thrivent Action Team Dollars was applied for by Pr. Joe and Margaret, and it was successfully granted and will be applied towards the project expenses. Multipurpose Room: (old kitchen) has been completed and the carpet has been installed. New Business: Multiple Worship Services for Major Holidays: Discussed the possibility of future holidays (mainly Christmas and Easter) have more than one service due to the number in attendance. This past Christmas service which was also held on a Sunday, had roughly 320 people in attendance which required people to be seated in the fellowship hall. Tabled until closer to Easter. Policy on length of service: length of service at St. Paul s discussed and the concern noted. Annual Report Update: According to Pr Joe, some information for the annual report needed clarity. Discussed sending a more detailed list of what is needed at the end of the year for all involved. That said, leaders of the various ministries still bear responsibility in getting financial reports and action summaries to Carrie for the annual report. Annual Meeting Agenda: Discussed protocol for the annual meeting (January 21st). Discussed having members of the building committee and Campaign Committee there for questions or concerns. Thank You: We received a Thank You letter from Pope County Families in Need for the Socktober drive in October. They are truly thankful for us providing over 400 pairs of socks for families in need. We received another from Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota for the $500 that they received. Lutheran Social Services, est. 1865, is currently serving 1 in 65 Minnesotans. LSS is one of the largest, nonprofit social service organizations. We also received a thank you from ELCA World Hunger. Closed with the Lord s Prayer Respectfully Submitted, Kori Gullickson Secretary January WELCA Meeting Minutes January 14, 2018 The meeting was called to order by president Pam Jones with 14 members present. Devotions were given by Shirley Boysen The secretary s report was read. A motion was made to approve the minutes. Motion was seconded and approved. The treasurer s report was given with the following balances on hand: $2, general, $1, kitchen, $ altar, $2, mission. A clarification was requested on the disbursement for Glenwood Retirement Village, Sunday School and Luther League, that received their disbursement early. A motion was made to place the treasurer s report on file. It was seconded and approved. Sunshine Committee sent cards to Paul Weisel & Anne Snider. Request made to send a birthday card to Harold Guderian. Mission Growth and Action Committee found a good buy at Shopko for towels and soap and a purchase was made. If anyone sees a good deal on items needed for mission projects, please let Jane Dingwall know. If buying for layettes, please purchase T-shirts and not onesies, which won t be accepted. Also, for sleepers and other clothing, please purchase sizes 6-24 months. Glenwood Retirement Village s cookie walk was profitable again this year. Next up will be the salad luncheon. Altar Committee is looking to repair or replace the liquid candles on the altar, which are having problems with the threads to screw on the tops, making it difficult to open or close. Thank yous were received from Judi Dahlseng, Pope County Families in Need, Youth for Christ, Pastor Joe, Marie Sanvik, Habitat for Humanity, Lutheran Social Services and the Synod for the Advent donation, which received matching funds. Other correspondence is on the bulletin board. OLD BUSINESS: The directory will be out after the annual meeting. Pam has made significant changes so please look it over carefully. JoLee Boysen and Stephanie Swalla have signed on to coordinate the dining room for the Fall Supper. They will develop a plan and implement it. NEW BUSINESS: Discussion was held on a spring event for the community, Continued on next page

4 WELCA Meeting Minutes Continued...with the suggestion for a spring musical event in which church and community members could take part, along with a light lunch or early dinner to be held in April. It was also suggested that we could possibly use Thrivent funds for the meal. More conversation will be held on the idea. St. Paul s annual meeting is January 21 and the January/February work committee has been asked to serve the potluck dinner. Dwayne Wold will be asked to make the coffee for the event. Discussion was held on placing a wooden stand in the new bathrooms that would make it possible for diaper bags/purses to be kept off the floor. Pam will look for some options. Discussion was held on storage for the rolling counter in the meeting room. Pam will also look at some more options. Discussion was held on purchasing an electric wall fireplace. A motion was made to purchase one for around $200-$250. The motion was made and seconded. Lori will put together some specs on a few fireplace options. Discussion was held on using Tom s refund slips from groceries. Jeanie Person will talk to Tom about the possibility of St. Paul s using slips to help with items for the church. Discussion was held on what to put on the walls in the meeting room and it was decided to look into a quilt hanging rack. Gayle Larson will look into possibilities and get the information to Pam. People were encouraged to look into options, as well. Discussion was held on Little Dresses for Africa, using pillowcases to make dresses, and the possibility of using Thrivent funds for this project. There s an online source for this project ands people were encouraged to look into it for further discussion. There is a 7-week program through the Glacial Ridge Hospital for those 65 and older called, Build Confidence, Reduce Falls. Cost is $10. Pam thanked last year s officers for their work and looking forward to working with this year s officers. The WELCA members also thanked Pam for all her work as president.
