1 South Croxton Churches The parishes of Ashby Folville & Barsby, Gaddesby, South Croxton with Beeby and Twyford, Thorpe Satchville & John O Gaunt Newsletter April 2016 Queen very grateful for prayers A church school competition to design a logo for the Queen s 90th birthday was won by Lucas Salinger a pupil at a village school in Hertfordshire. Our parish of South West Framland will be celebrating the event with a special Evensong at Hoby at 7.30 pm on Thursday April 21. n a strong statement of faith, the Queen has said that she is very I grateful to the nation for its prayers for her and that she has felt God s faithfulness during 64 years on the throne. The comments rare insights into the Queen s personal thoughts and Christian faith came in the forward to a new book, The Servant Queen and the King She Serves, published by Bible Society, HOPE and LICC. Her Majesty said: I have been and remain very grateful to you for your prayers and to God for His steadfast love. I have indeed seen His faithfulness. The book was published to mark the Queen s 90th birthday. In her comments, the Queen referred to the changes she has seen in her life, which has made her the longest-reigning monarch in British history. The extent and pace of change has been truly remarkable, she said. We have witnessed triumphs and tragedies. And she alluded to the current problems in the Middle East saying that the world is now experiencing terrible suffering on an unprecedented scale. The Queen s Christian faith is well-known. In recent years, Her Majesty has referred to her beliefs in public statements, including Christmas broadcasts. The Servant Queen and the King She Serves highlights the Queen s faith and how it has shaped her personal life and service to the nation. A 12-page schools version has been published by Scripture Union. A big thank you to every one of our many valuable volunteers, in particular those who volunteer to drive and collect people for the Community Lunches. They are able to pick up anyone from our villages who would like transport. We are always looking out for new volunteer drivers, so do please get in touch with one of the committee if you could help out from time to time. Also a big thank you to all those who host our lunches and support the ethos of bringing people together to meet up with each other and to share conversation over an enjoyable meal. Do come and join us! The Community Lunch Team Rural Church Day: This event, at St Martin s House, on April 16, , will be looking at opportunities and challenges in rural ministry. To register please telephone by April 1. A church spokesman said: Hopefully we can get a good attendance from the churches of South West Framland. Bishop s Lent Appeal for 2016: The appeal is supporting a project in our Link Diocese of Trichy which is part of the Church of South India. The Trichy Diocese provides a number of residential hostels for children and young adults in difficult circumstances, including children of parents with HIV, single parents or orphans, and those from isolated rural areas such as children of tribal people. The Bishop s lent appeal is focused on providing funding to strengthen support given by way of accommodation, bursaries and training for these young people. Used in this way, the money allows the church to provide for the poorest and most vulnerable in the diocese to be educated out of poverty. It is hoped that each of our churches in South West Framland will be able to support the Bishop s appeal this year. SWF Group Council. 2
