Did you know that George Washington was asked to be king of America during the Revolutionary War? George Washington both as a Christian and as a praying man rejected the offer. He believed that there was only one King. In 1774 a report to King George of England, the governor of Boston noted: 'If you ask an American who is his master he will tell you he has none, nor any governor but Jesus Christ.' The prewar colonial Committees of Correspondence soon made this American motto: 'No king but King Jesus,' and this sentiment was carried over into 1783 peace treaty with Great Britain ending that war, which begins in the name of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity. We like to think of ourselves as being at liberty both as Americans and as Christians. The reality is we are beholding to many in our citizenship in both. We pledge allegiance to the Flag demonstrating our willingness to follow the leaders in the US. As followers of Christ, we confess Him as our Lord and Master. There is a box at the Info Desk for the receipts. Funds received benefit the youth group. Sign-Up Sheets Sign-Up Sheets are on the bulletin board in the church office for those who would like to sign-up to volunteer for 2018 Communion Preparation and for Locking/Unlocking Doors and Turn On/Off A/C. Arcadians The Arcadians next meeting will be on Thursday, September 14th at 6:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall. Come join them for an evening of great fellowship and a delicious covered dish meal! Ladies Ministry News Our next ladies ministry meeting will be Monday, September 11th at 7 PM in the fellowship hall. Please note the date change, due to Labor Day. We have two projects that we will really need to work on for the fall. All ladies, you are invited and welcome! We would love your help and input in ministering! Ann Byrd will be our hostess that evening. Hour of Power Come join us at 10:00 A.M. each Monday morning in the fellowship hall as we meet and pray together. Military Care Packages & Operation Christmas Child The ladies ministry promotes each year two big allchurch projects in the fall. It's time to begin thinking about these and collecting items. 1) Please begin bringing in gift cards to the information desk in the foyer for our military loved ones. Any kind of gift cards, including shopping, food, Amazon, etc. are all great ideas. For those who are stationed abroad, we will send items instead, so cash will also be appreciated to purchase things. On the same topic, if you have a loved one who is in military currently, please fill out a form from the information desk and return it after completed. We don't want to leave anyone out! We want to show our love and appreciation from our church family to them. These don't have to be only ACC people. These will be mailed in October, so that they can be received by Veterans Day. 2) Operation Christmas Child will be here before we know it! This is a ministry from Samaritan s Purse, which delivers Christmas gifts (squeezed into a shoebox) to children all around the world. Let's start collecting items for our shoeboxes. While school supplies are still on sale, it might be a great place to start. They will be due shortly before Thanksgiving, which will be here before we know it! Ready, set, GO! Community Thanksgiving Service Santa Fe Christian Church Sunday, November 12th Serving Opportunities Communion & offering are parts of our worship that everyone can participate in. Each Sunday we need men to pass the trays and plates. Please prayerfully consider helping in this area. Call the church office for details. She lives with her mother, Crystal and sister, Tara at Beriton St., Santa Fe, TX Helping Others Mark your calendar for the September 19th meeting in the Fellowship Hall at 1:00 P.M. We will finish up and will be packing for our deliveries to Galveston, Shriners Hospital, UTMB Hospital and also Special delivery to UTMB Pediatric Dept. On Wednesday, September 20th, we will make our deliveries. September 21st, we will again, meet in the Fellowship Hall for lunch and it will be followed by making Fleece Covers as requested from UTMB Volunteer Service. The covers requires no sewing, just scissors and our hands. So join us for delicious food, desserts and fellowship while Helping Others. For information call Betty Goswick or Earline Zimmermann. Prayer Concerns Church Office Closed Monday, Sept. 4th Labor Day Holiday Church Insurance Information Due to the rising cost of property insurance and the increased deductible, the eldership has decided to stop paying for property insurance. Starting in September, we will become self insured. Going forward, money will be set aside each year. This will help us be prepared for any necessary property issues. We will continue to pay for a liability policy covering the church for any liabilities that may arise. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact any of the elders. 5 Words From The Associate Bryan Marks All or Nothing? Have you ever had a crisis in your life in which you deliberately, earnestly and recklessly abandoned everything? It is a crisis of the will. You may come to that point many times externally, but it will amount to nothing. The true deep crisis of abandonment, or total surrender, is reached internally, not externally. The giving up of external things may actually be an indication of your being in total bondage. Have you deliberately committed your will to Jesus Christ? It is a transaction of the will, not of emotion. Any positive emotion that results is simply a blessing arising out of the transaction. If you focus your attention on the emotion, you will eventually will understand that the emotion fades. The youth of ACC feel the same effect after returning from CIY. The high emotions fade after CIY ends. Do not ask God what the transaction is to be, but make the determination to surrender your will regarding whatever you see, whether it is in the shallow or the deep, profound places internally. If you have heard Jesus Christ s voice on the waves of the sea, you can let your convictions and your consistency take care of themselves by concentrating on maintaining your intimate relationship to Him. 5
