MAIN 88.1, TRANSLATORS Mhz. RADIOGRAM Number State Rt. 118, HUNLOCK CREEK, PA June 2010 Broadcasting Improvements At WIVH Jonathan Broscious and Burl Updyke are shown with the new WIVH transmitting equipment at its new location on Blue Mountain, St. Croix. Both improvements mean greater coverage for WIVH. Jonathan Broscious, Shirley Updyke and Burl Updyke are shown as they hosted WIVH s recent Shar-A-Thon, in St. Croix. Over $5,000 is still needed to complete its $34,000 goal. We believe God will work through listeners to supply the remainder needed to complete the goal., said Burl
Page 2 'Mission Possible' Reaches Goal Mission Possible, held May 6, reached its $18,000 goal at 8:30 p.m. Shown is one of the teams of telephone operators: Janet Carver, Rachel Madeira, Barb Saxe and Bev Sorber. Patriotic Flags Are Listener's Handiwork Beverly Johnson, of Courtdale, is a professional flag maker. She recently gave two lovely, patriotic flags to the WRGN staff. She and her husband Eugene are pictured with the flags.
Please pray with us Page 3 PRAISE: God for a successful Mission Possible in May. However, the WIVH Shar-A-Thon goal is still to be met. Pray that the remainder needed will still be pledged. PRAY: Although the work on improvements to WIVH broadcasting went well, interference problems remain. Pray that these may be resolved soon. PRAY: With the coming of summer, giving slows at WRGN. Pray that listeners will be sensitive to the need for station expenses to be met as usual. PRAY: that many more people will take advantage of the excellent reading the Good News Library offers them. PRAISE: The recent Book Sale helped to lessen the crowded library shelves here and new books and DVD s are being placed allowing members to keep current on the latest world s issues. PRAISE: WRGN is offering a new devotional booklet free to listeners this month. The booklet giveaway enables the station to reach out in yet another way to help listeners in their Christian walks. PRAY: A project needing to be done here is cleaning-up the plantings in the front of the WRGN and sweeping the driveway. Pray for a volunteer willing to help? PRAISE: The Press and Listen Project continues at WRGN. An MP3 player is supplied free to those unable to read Shirl s new book, Vision To Reality. Listeners have been given the opportunity to purchase the players so that sightless people are able to listen instead of read the book. Shirl s book is also available. PRAY: WRGN s Prayer team received eleven prayer requests last month and a new prayer warrior, Vivian Wickeiser, of Plains joined the team. We also received two praises. PRAISE: WRGN s website, allows listeners to learn all about the ministry, check the extensive list of area up-coming events and share prayer requests. 299 visited the website last month. PRAISE: There has been an increase in attendance at WIVH s Show Time. This makes an ideal time for families to view good Christ-centered films. Pray for Tiffany and Jonathan Bowman who direct this ministry and also the WIVH Correspondence School, offered free to WIVH listeners. PRAY: for Jonathan Bowman, WIVH operator, as he works to correct the interference problem at the station. PRAY: for the well-being of staff members at both stations. The recent past months have been extremely busy. PRAISE: And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. - Hebrews 11: 6. WRGN and WIVH are reaching those who haven t yet heard of Christ. Read Shirl Updyke's New Book "Vision to Reality" $16.95 at WRGN Studios
Page 4 Book Sale Proceeds Over $600 Robert Thompson and Ron Radke, Hazleton, browse tables of books. Nori Crinnion, Harveys Lake bought a box full of books. A group of people shop at WRGN s recent Book Sale.

Page 6 Here at the studios... The recent Book Sale kept WRGN s studios hopping for three days and we like it that way. WRGN listeners should never feel uneasy about visiting here. They are always welcome. Shirl recently gave Mary Fiske, of Kingston, a sales pitch on why she should listen at home. Mary is a faithful listener, but generally only as she travels in the car. Mary was a good sport about this. She s loyal to WRGN. Is it surprising that Shirl thinks people should be listening all the time? Beverly Johnson, Courtdale, loved the Book Sale. Everything there was my kind of reading, she said. Bev brought the staff delicious Zucchini Bread and beautiful patriotic, handmade flags. Look for her photo in this issue. We celebrated Carol Tremont s first anniversary of listening to WRGN. How does she keep track of this? It was on Butter Cup Day, the very day she found WRGN one year ago. What fun! Nori Crinnion, of Harvey s Lake, was determined to come to the Book Sale and arranged for the county van to bring her. Would she be able to shop long enough to find the books she wanted and could she haul them home in the van? Yes! Nori left with a whole box full of books and with a van driver that was most helpful. Don t do it! That was Florence Posten s advise when the topic on Shirl and You, was turning down the corner of a page to mark a reader s place. She also commented on another topic, using vinegar for household cleaning. She s not sold on it. Hurrah! Colleen Bronson, is now able to hear WRGN at her group home in Pittston. Colleen had always listened at her home in Pikes Creek, but since joining the group home for sightless people, she couldn t get the station. Her mom bought her a more sensitive radio. As National Day of Prayer approached, Emma Fink, of Lehighton, warned listeners to become grateful people and get down on their knees. Why? Because God never lets you down, she said. She prayed with us. We were amazed to hear that Elaine Golachefski, of Parsons, Wilkes Barre, is a member of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. She makes the two hour drive to Brooklyn on Wednesday for rehearsal and every Sunday morning for the church service. She is blessed to be one of the 285 member choir and to hear Pastor Jim Cymbala every Sunday. The pastor s wife, directs the choir. Join us at the studios, either by phone or in person. See you there! 'TURNING POINT' with Dr. David Jeremiah weekdays 9am Be good to yourself... Join The Good News Library
Page 7 From us to you... June, 2010 Dear Ones: Do you ever ask God to show you his goodness? Shirl often does! It s not unusual for her to pray, Show me your goodness, today, Lord. The problem with this request is His goodness comes and those asking for it don t even notice. Recently, we noticed! In fact we believe the best way to notice and remember is to write down these wonderful happenings. Here s a few examples from our lives. At the drug store a man waited for his wife with the car door opened. As we walked by WRGN s broadcasting was clearly heard. Thanks, God for your goodness! When you think of what God is capable of doing, you may think that was a very small thing. What were the chances of us passing by, just at that moment? To us it was encouraging and a sign of God's goodness. A time when so many people are unemployed and looking for work, one of sons lost his job. Less than a week later, he was hired. That was God s goodness! We ve been praying that one of our little grandsons would learn to obey his parents. And thanks to the goodness of God, he is beginning to do just that. At WRGN s recent Book Sale, buyers came from Allentown and many other towns, some of them were listeners we had not met before and two of them bought Shirl s book, Was that because of God s goodness? We believe so. Every day God is working in our lives, showing His love for us. Thanks to His goodness we are back from St. Croix after a hectic time making changes to WIVH s broadcasting. That s good, and since God is in control of our lives, we re thankful. God s workings in our lives are extraordinary! And oftentimes we miss them. Because of God s goodness the Friends of WRGN are working hard at the Yard Sale. We can t wait to see His goodness in action there. Looking For God s Goodness, Burl and Shirley Updyke, WRGN/WIVH
WRGN 2457 State Route 118 Hunlock Creek, PA U.S. POSTAGE NON-PROFIT ORG. PAID Hunlock Creek, PA Permit Number 17 Page 8 New at the Library Over 14,000 books and DVD s are available to Good News Library members. The cost of joining the library is $5.00 per year. The library is open to the public. Two classic books in one are In His Steps, and What Would Jesus Do? These books are among the most popular Christian books ever printed. They challenge readers to make a difference in a hurting world. A DVD entitled, Martin Luther, shows how Luther revolutionized the Church and offered the Christian world a new vision of man s relationship with God and, in turn, redefined man s relationship with authority in general. In her book, What Happened to My Life? Danna Demetre says you don t need to feel too busy, or worry, or let disappointments in life drain your joy. She presents a 40 day plan for reclaiming your life. The DVD, Romero, is a compelling and deeply moving look at the life of Archbishop Oscar Romero, of El Salvador. He went from a apolitical, complacent priest to a committed leader of the Salvadoran people. Bobby Bowden s life is told in the DVD, Bobby Bowden - A Winning Way. This is a behind the scenes look at this coaching giant as he shares the keys to what makes a winner in life. Forty topics, spiritual insights and easy to use action steps are included in the book, The Quick Reference Guide to Sexuality & Relationship Counseling. This guide gives pastors, counselors, and everyday believers the information they need to help people with their most intimate issues. Battling his own personal demons, Police Chief, Jonah Westfall experiences the dark side of life and is committed to eradicating it. A gruesome act, escalating of crime and destruction of tranquility leads him to a mysterious investigation. The story is told in the fiction book, Invisible.
