Platte Avenue Fort Morgan, CO Pastor Kaila Hochhalter Office Phone: Cell: Website: lcorelca.org Administrative Assistant Vickie Hoffman Worship Schedule 8:00 a.m. & 10:15 a.m. Worship 9:00 a.m. Sunday School Congregation Council Members & Officers Shelly Bristol Carri Brown Erich Dorn, Treasurer, Margie Dorn Reid Ernst Rockie Ernst, President Andy Gerken Rick Goodman, Vice President Terresa Lauck, Secretary Karen Liston Julie Vannoy The Congregation Council is the core leadership body of the congregation. They are charged with overseeing and directing the life and mission of our church. We encourage you to talk with them! A message from Pastor Kaila At the annual meeting we voted on our community covenant. This has been part of the Healthy Start process. One of our goals is to grow in deeper relationship with God and with each other through communication. The beginning statement of the covenant says As members of the Christian community of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan we commit, with the help of God to relate to each other through Christ, and thus hold ourselves and each other to; 12 things. As I have stated the past couple of months, each month I will focus on one of the 12 things - on what it means and how God and our call as Christians help us live into this covenant that we have made with God and with each other. In February, I spoke on the first point in the covenant to Listen to each other, and in March I spoke on the second point of the covenant to Respect the privacy of those who confide, and in April I spoke on the third point, Challenge each other with the truth. Be willing to confront when it is important. For May, as we continue to celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord that reminds us of God s love for us and for our call to be in relationship with one another, our fourth point in our covenant is that: We commit, with the help of God, to relate to each other through Christ, and thus hold each other to: 4. Deal with people directly. Don t complain to others. If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. Matthew 18:15. If someone complains to you about another member, help that person follow this principle. 1

2 Jesus tells us in Matthew that if someone sins against you, if someone hurts you, if you have an issue with someone go to them directly so that your relationship can be made right, honest and loving. Just a few verses later in Matthew 18:20 Jesus says For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them. Jesus calls us to reconcile our relationships with one another. And when we reconcile, when we forgive, when we begin to heal and truly love our brothers and sisters in Christ--that is where Christ is among us. Prayer: Loving God, help us heal, help us forgive, help us reconcile our relationships so that we can be in right, honest, loving relationships with our brothers and sisters. That will lead to growing into a deeper, caring, loving relationship with you and with one another! Amen. God s Peace & Love, Pastor Kaila *The covenant in full is listed in the newsletter, and you will also be able to find it on our website, in the narthex at the church, and in the policy and procedure manual. * Please pray for the following who have been submitted to our prayer list: Lezlie Evel, Gerry Enerson, Dianne Parker, Josie Perez, Mary Wehrer, Joe Keefe, Betty Dorn, Gary Kolpin, Rowana Ernst, Marian Robertson, Gerhart Fritzler, Courtney Jensen, Jacob Fritzler, Sandy Severson, Shirley Holt, Wesley, Dee Ann, Kendra, Mary Ann, Kailey, Merlin, Jonathan, Alissa, Madeline, Brenda, Creedis, Jill, and Ashley. For further information, contact Katie Barron, Melissa Ruppel, or Terresa Lauck; or check out our website! Pastor Kaila is searching for another Bible study time which will also study the Book of Revelation in May and June. 8 Praises & Pinches for April All praises and pinches are quoted directly from the forms that were submitted. Praises: Pastor Deb Abbot always does a wonderful job when she subs for Pastor Kaila. She is positive, and energetic person and that comes through her sermon, service and interaction with our congregation. Pinches: 1. When hanging items on the walls, do NOT use tape that removes paint. 2. People coming into building with wet/muddy shoes. (entryway, narthex carpet looking terrible) * Outcome for Pinches * 1. Congregation Council voted to change our policy to have painters tape on hand and available for people to use for hanging and decorating. The painters tape will be located in the narthex by the council baskets. 2. Congregation Council is functioning as our Mutual Ministry team until we have one formed. Pastor Kaila will bring this pinch to the next council meeting unless the Mutual Ministry team is formed before then. Please look at the June newsletter for further follow-up information. 8

9 Community Covenant As members of the Christian community of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan we commit, with the help of God, to relate to each other through Christ, and thus hold ourselves and each other to: 1. Listen to each other. Let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak James 1:19. Dietrich Bonhoeffer stated: The first service that one owes to others in the fellowship consists of listening to them. Life Together p Respect the privacy of those who confide. A gossip goes about telling secrets, but one who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a confidence. Proverbs 11:13 3. Challenge each other with the truth. Be willing to confront when it is important. Rather speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body s growth in building itself up in love. Ephesians 4: Deal with people directly. Don t complain to others. If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone Matthew 18:15. If someone complains to you about another member, help that person follow this principle. 5. Strengthen each other. [Speak] only what is useful for building up so that your words may give grace to those who hear Ephesians 4:29. The test of true Christian community is that it serves to make the individual free, strong and mature, not weak and dependent. Bonhoeffer, p Be gentle with one another. My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Galatians 6:1 7. Do not speak ill of others in the fellowship. Beloved, do not grumble against one another so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors! James 5:9 8. Do not judge each other. Therefore you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you judge others; for in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, are doing the very same things. Romans 2:1 9. Pray for one another. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. James 5: Confess your sins to one another. James 5: Forgive one another. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give and it will be given to you. Luke 6:37b-38a 12. Freely participate in the Body of Christ according to your gifts and talents. As you go, proclaim the good news, The kingdom of heaven has come near.
