LEWISVILLE IS A STEPHEN MINISTRY CHURCH Stephen Ministers are trained lay caregivers who provide emotional and spiritual care to persons who are experiencing difficulties in their lives hospitalization, loss of a loved one, loss of job, or any other crisis situation. This is care in addition to the care the pastor gives. If you are interested in having a Stephen Minister, fill out one of the slips in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate or hand it to the minister or one of the Stephen Leaders, or Tom Lee.

6 Everything that God created has a purpose The mere fact that you are alive means that God has a purpose for your life. If your heart is beating, you have a purpose by God s standards. Do you really know what it is? Regardless of your circumstances, you are not accidental. God does not make anything by accident and everything that God makes has a purpose. We were made by God and we were made for God. Until we understand that statement, the meaning of life will not make sense. That s what it s all about. God has a purpose that only you or I can fulfill in life uniquely our own purpose something no one else can accomplish. In the book of Ecclesiastes in chapter 3, verse 11 in the Bible we read, God has made everything suitable for its time. If we paraphrase those words slightly, we could say: God has made each one of us suitable, or given each one of us a purpose, for his or her own time. We were made by God and we were made for God. It all begins with God; it also ends with God. The only way we are going to learn the meaning of life and our purpose in life is to get to know God. A former bishop of mine, Bishop Bevel Jones, III, often reminded the clergy that we need to be focused in our life and ministry. He would say we needed to focus on the main thing. And then he would go on to say simply, The main thing is the main thing is the main thing! By the main thing he meant, of course, to know, and love, and serve God all our lives. Why on earth are we here? The apostle in Romans 11:36 declares: Everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by God s power, and everything is for God s glory. In other words, from start to finish, it s all for God. Living lives that recognize God s glory, honor God s glory, declare God s glory, and reflect God s glory this is the main thing. Being people who know, and love, and serve God in a way that brings glory to God answers the question why people like you and me are here on earth. Thank you for being such a warm, caring, and attentive church family. Once again, thank you for allowing Carol and me to have a small part in knowing, loving, and serving the Lord with you here in Lewisville. My prayer is that we will use this time of transition not only to get to know one another (and the Lord help me with all your names so keep telling me who you are!) but also to get to know God better that we will discover that our lives are filled with deeper meaning that God will take us forward and onward, and help us understand more clearly what God s purpose for us is at this time and in this place in history. Ivan
