1 CENTRAL BAPTIST ASSOCIATION MINUTES, /M66cent These 1986 minutes of Central Baptist Association are respectfully dedica~ed to the memory of Floyd H. Rhyne, the first director of Central Baptist Association. Serving as the associational director from October 1, 1961, until his retirement on September 30, 1973, Rev. Rhyne laid the groundwork for many of the ongoing programs in the association. He established a legacy of cooperation with the N.C. Baptist State Convention, and his memory is still strong among the directors of missions who served with him during those years. He is also remembered with fondness by the pastors and church leaders who served under his capable leadership. In addition, the association wishes to remember Rev. Rhyne by naming the associational media center in his honor. The Rhyne Media Center houses the books, tapes, and resources for training church leaders, a task taken seriously by Rev. Rhyne during his ministry, Floyd H. Rhyne was called to his heavenly home on September 21, 1986, following an extended illness. Our best wishes are extended to his wife, Grace, his daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Ned Duncan), and his son, Norman. 2 WE HONOR OUR SUPERINTENDENT AND FAMILY...-":: l \. ti <~-:r~c:.-- J ~ '"/"'j \ ' / / - These minutes of the Fifteenth Annual Meeting of the Central Baptist Association are gratefully dedicated to our first and only Superintendent of Missions. Brother Floyd H. Rhyne and his devoted wife, Grace N. Rhyne. Coming to our association soon after it was formed, Brother Rhyne guided us through the struggling days of infancy and has led us to become a mature and respected Southern Baptist Association, ministering boldly in the name of Jesus. Mr. Rhyne was born in Greenback, Tennessee, on August 15, He attended Indiana Central College in Indianapolis, Indiana, and did special studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before moving to High Point in 1961, he served as Superintendent of Missions in New Lebanon Association, Lebanon, Virginia. He formerly served in a similar capacity in. Holston Valley Association, Rogersville. He also served as pastor of churches in Clinton, Johnson City, and Powell, Tennessee. The Rhynes have two children, Sandra Carol and Norman. Sandra is the wife of R~v. Ned Lee Duncan, Pastor of Jackson Park Baptist Church, Kannapolis, N. C. The Duncans are foreign missions volunteers and expect to be appointed in December. Norman rs with the city school system, presently serving on the faculty of Northeast Junior High School. Because of substantial loss of his vision, Brother Rhyne resigned his ministry with us on September 30, Although he will no longer be on our official staff, he will still be very much a part of our work and ministry. The Rhynes will always be dear in the hearts and lives of our association. We are grateful for the ministry of this dedicated man of God and pray God's richest blessings to continue to abide upon him and his dear family. Surely as the Lord looks from heaven today, he says of Floyd Rhyne, '"Well done, good and faithful servant". 3

3 Reception To Honor Minister The Rev. Floyd H. Rhyne and his family will be honored Sunday at a reception in Oakview Baptist Church from 3 until 5 p.m. The Rev. Mr. Rhyne served as superintendent of missions for the Central Baptist Assn. for 12 years, retiring on Sept. 30. He was the Association's first missions superintendent, joining it shortly after its formation. During his 12 years the Association has made many forward steps, including the purchase of property on Steele Street now known as the Baptist Center. It is from the Center that the work of the Association is directed, including a program of social ministries provided for people bf the High Point area. Tribute will be given Sunday also to members of his family. These include his wife; their son, Norman, a teacher at Northeast Junior High, and their daughter., Mrs. Ned Duncan. The Rev. and Mrs. Duncan are soon to be appointed as missionaries to Uruguay by the Southern Baptist Convention's Foreign Mission Board. Although retired, the Rev.
