1 June 10, 2018 A Warm Welcome is extended to our guests worshiping with us today. We welcome you to be part of our church family regardless of your race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, social or economic state, physical or mental challenge, and whether you are confident or questioning your faith. We offer opportunities through the week for worship, study, service, and fellowship. If you would like to know more about the church, or make a prayer request, please fill out the information card located in the pew rack. 2 Stephen Ministry: Someone needs you! As current Stephen Ministers move, or retire to pursue other callings, our Stephen Ministry program needs to train others to fill their shoes so we can provide Stephen Ministry care in our church and community. We are in need of both men and women to join our ministry at PCB. We will be training a new class of Stephen Ministers beginning in September This will be a new experience for us, as we will partner with the Village church so they can also train a new group of Stephen Ministers. We have found that larger class sizes enrich the learning experience and enliven the discussions. Participants will serve in their own congregations once the training is concluded. Classes will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:00 at the Village church, and Anna Armstrong and Julie Fischer will be co-teaching these classes. After training, our participants will join our current Stephen Ministers for supervision and continuing education on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The 50 hours of training equips you for serving as a one-to-one Christian caregiver for an individual going through a difficult time in their lives. Men s Friday Morning Study Group Our Men s Breakfast Bible Study Group meets every Friday morning at 6:30am at Egg Harbor Cafe in Barrington. All men are welcome to join any week you are available. If interested, contact Rollin Potter (501) or David Nelson (847) School is now out for the summer. Thank you to all who have generously brought snacks for the hungry students at Sunny Hill School. The children love the snacks and it makes after school programs and Homework Club a much more productive time. PAGE 5

6 Save the date Church Picnic August 26 details soon Volunteers needed Call or Carol Buchta Over the past year we have looked for ways that BPW could continue in its present form. We have arrived at the conclusion that for this to happen, new leadership has to come forth. This has not happened. As a result, it is now time for BPW to retire as a standalone organization. Most of the events and services will become part of other church committees and special interest groups, such as our Bible studies, Book clubs and Shawl ministry, will continue with their own leadership. This decision was very hard to make. It was thoroughly discussed at our last meeting on May 16, where only 16 women were in attendance. We all agreed that this change was very difficult, but necessary. Personally, we want to thank all the wonderful women in our congregation who, over the past 35 years, have diligently participated in so many ways with the work of this organization. The women of our congregation will continue to work as part of other church committees and always find ways for our fellowship to go on. Blessings to all, Susan Raaths and Linda Neton PAGE 6

The CROP Hunger Walk helps raise funds for groups who support them during their first years in the US. Our church participates in this Walk with most main line denominations.

9 Serving Opportunities Mission CROP Walk Immigration and Refugees in the US When I was a stranger, you took me in We are a country of immigrants and giving them, hospitality is a distinctly Christian virtue, highlighted by Jesus. Those who come to the US as refugees or immigrants need our support. The CROP Hunger Walk helps raise funds for groups who support them during their first years in the US. Our church participates in this Walk with most main line denominations. The CROP Hunger Walk helps disadvantaged people in the US, including immigrants and refugees to become productive, sustaining members of our local community. It helps disadvantaged families to grow and stay together. One of the reasons this continues to be relevant to our Mission Committee is because supporting this organization means supporting the hunger and hunger-related issues both in the US as well as throughout the world. They help provide food, water and sustainability to those who need it. Woodstock Soup Kitchen - We need volunteers to serve at the Woodstock Soup Kitchen. We serve on the third Sunday of the month. The soup kitchen serves meals to about 100 guests and provides food to 75+ households in the Woodstock area through an onsite food pantry. The time commitment is from 10:00am to 2:30pm including the travel to Woodstock. We meet at the Woodstock Bible Church, 770 E. Kimball Ave, Woodstock between 10:45am and 11:00am. We serve guests from 11:15am to 1:15pm and then help clean up. This is a great opportunity to serve others and enjoy fellowship together. Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God s starving children hungry in body and spirit.

10 PCB will be going to FMSC on Tuesday evening from 6 pm to 7:30 PM June 19 and August 14 in Schaumburg. You do need to register before going, so contact Dan Paxton (who will register you) via at dan@headsupspecialties, or by phone at Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God s starving children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and these meals are shipped to distribution partners around the world. The work is very simple for 1 ½ hours we pack food pouches in a highly organized atmosphere NO experience required! A group of people have been going to FMSC for about a half year now and all are charged to continue this work in Meals with Wheels MW If you feel you can give an hour of your time once or twice a month to deliver meals in our area, please contact Audrey Helminiak at aud2sell@comcast.net Or 847/ If you don t think you can commit to this on a regular basis consider being placed on the sub list.
