A small dinner will be provided and then they will be installing another big class on February 11th. If you plan on attending you will need to contact the Lodge.

Looking forward to March, we will be presenting a five year revision to our Lodge By-Laws per GL Statues.

However, we recently held a Game Dinner. Thank you to all who helped make this event a success with special thanks to Dave Poulin for donating all of the venison and to Jim Shaw for the Buffalo. I understand a select few members have taken it upon themselves to begin Friday Night dinners again. I'm not sure if they're putting anything specific together, but I would like to invite you to contact the Lodge weekly to check on the menu and possibly attend one of these great dinners. These dinners are a great chance to take the family for an inexpensive evening out. This month the Lodge honors our Past Exalted Rulers (PERs). A small dinner will be provided and then they will be installing another big class on February 11th. If you plan on attending you will need to contact the Lodge. Additionally that same evening nominations of Officers will take place; all members in good standing may be nominated. Looking forward to March, we will be presenting a five year revision to our Lodge By-Laws per GL Statues. These will be sent out to all members with their annual dues notices, so please pay close attention to the changes within the by-laws and the discussion and voting date. We recently received two donations from the N-SSA in the amount of $250 each. For those that don t know, we have several members who belong to this organization and take part in the Mon. Thurs. 4 PM Close Friday 3 PM Close Saturday 12 PM Close Sunday 12 PM Close Permittee: Lee Littlefield black powder shoots hosted at our Lodge over the summer. Finally, the annual Food Drive was not as successful as in years past, but I would like to thank all that donated. Member Scott Tackus has offered to bring the donations to the Glastonbury Food & Fuel Bank. Additionally, thanks to everyone who gave to the Care Packages for Troops. 2 CHARITY JUSTICE BROTHERLY LOVE FIDELITY From the Secretary s Desk At the last GL Convention we received notification that our Grand Lodge Fees will increase for the coming Lodge year. In accordance with Glastonbury Lodge No By- Laws, when you receive your dues notice in the coming weeks, you ll see that each regular member will pay $ This is broken down in the following manner: Lodge Dues: $88.00 Grand Lodge Fees: $14.00 State Assoc. Fees: $1.90 Please Remit: $ For each Life Member the total will be $40.90 This is broken down in the following manner: Grand Lodge Fees: $14.00 House Committee News As the ER mentioned, we are trying to get Friday Night dinners to be a recurring event. If you are interested in helping the HC, please contact the ER. February 1st is the date for this year s Super Bowl. Why not stop by and watch the game on our fabulous 40 HD TV s in the bar or the 60 big screen TV in the lounge? February 2nd is Groundhog Day; at press time the drink State Assoc. That same day we will also host the banquet for last year s NASCAR Pool participants; details will be posted at the bar. Well, if you don't, that Sunday we woke up to a storm and some of us considered canceling, but NO, we didn't need to! We still had some 40 members and their family support us yet again. Claffey, PER PER Association Message Over the past few months we have begun to work with our Exalted Ruler to prepare him for the end of the year. Although many may think this would be an easy task, the end of the year can be as important for the Exalted Ruler as it is at the beginning of the year. Speaking of the beginning of the Lodge Year, several of the current PERs are assisting current members as their interest grows to become an officer. Unfortunately, we may not see enough members get involved again this year, which will require some of the Past Exalted Rulers to step in to fill chairs. Although our Lodge is rich in volunteers, or running several of the committees, it is vital for some to consider making the next step. Remember, any member in good standing is eligible for nomination to become an officer. With that being said, the meeting of February 11th is the nomination of officers. The editors of the Upstart (two PER s!) would like to offer this monthly message to any other PER s who may have some words of wisdom to offer to the Lodge Membership. 5 ELKS CARE ELKS SHARE Range Committee News As we start the new year, I feel that it is important to recognize the work of the members who make up the Range Committee, run events, handle the trap shoot on a weekly basis and perhaps most importantly, quietly maintain the range. Perhaps this year, if you are a shooter and use the facility, you could offer to help with a project, run an event, attend a RC meeting or support one of our functions that funds maintenance and improvements. So, thank you to all who helped out this past year for your hard work and commitment to our lodge. There are too many people to mention and I will leave someone out if I try to name them all. The Sunday trap shoot continues to go well. From the numbers Bill Wolfe, PER, reports, attendance seems to be up. That's great news! Take a ride up on Sunday morning and bring a guest. Trap shoots are open to the public. On Saturday, March 7, 2009, the RC will host the fifth annual Antique Arms Show in the hall, from 9-3. We could use more help to make the event happen. It's a fun event and your $3 admission fee and the hot dog and fries that you buy go a long way to helping us meet our yearly budget. possible. We had a few dry funs in the fall and it's a lot of fun. I think that this event will really take off, but we need shooters to participate, so please consider giving this new event a try. Dates and times are forthcoming. At our lodge meeting of January 14, 2009, range rules were voted on and approved by the membership. All new members will be given a copy of these rules. It is the responsibility of the members to know the rules. If you are on the range and others are shooting that you do not know, please show them your card and ask to see theirs. If they do not have a current membership card, or are not accompanied by a member who does, ask them to leave. The combination to the gate is being changed more frequently now. Plan on checking in at the bar to get the new combination. The range is looking great! Let's keep it that way by policing ourselves. Don't make others pick up your shot up target material. Let's all have a safe and enjoyable 2009 at the range. Please come to a RC meeting on the third Thursday of each month Shoot Straight. Safety First.
