1 October 2018 The Church at Horseshoe Bay 600 HI RIDGE RD. PO BOX 8295 HORSESHOE BAY, TX CHURCH-HSB.ORG ASCRIBE PRAISE Church Events For me, and from a worship-of-god perspective, the month of October holds special meaning beginning with World Communion Sunday on the first Sunday of October. It s the Communion reminding us the church community is much bigger than all of us here at the Church at Horseshoe Bay. It s the Communion reminding us we are connected in faith to the world-wide Church and, therefore, need to be a part of, and engaged in, God s big tent. Sometimes we forget. In my senior year at seminary, I decided not to work part-time (I had done so up to this point) in order to concentrate on preparing for my ordination exams that would take place in mid-october. After a few weeks of concentrated study, I was ready for a break. On the first Sunday in October, I awoke to a beautiful fall day in northern California. The sun was out. The air was crisp. It was the perfect day to hop in the car and enjoy a drive, which I did. First to Sonoma. Then to Napa. Then to Calistoga. Then to Santa Rosa before returning to the seminary. Yes, I could have easily been in church that morning, so perhaps to help alleviate a sense of guilt, I turned on the radio hoping to listen to a service of worship from some church. I found one. It was being broadcast live. When it came time for the Lord s Supper, the pastor said it was World Communion Sunday. That s when the Spirit convicted me. Here I was a follower of Jesus not being with Jesus family on the one Communion Sunday that linked me to the Church Universal. It was my reminder of the importance of World Communion Sunday for my spiritual growth. Then, the last Sunday in October. It is known as Reformation Sunday the time to remember the importance and contribution of the Protestant Reformation to the world and in recovering the five solas (God s Word alone, God s glory alone, Christ alone, Faith alone, Grace alone). A phrase you ve likely heard over the years is, The Church reformed and always in need of being reformed according to the Word of God. That phrase is a both/ and. It is a reminder to the Church to keep grounded in the Word and be diligent in constant self-examination to reform herself when she veers away or strays from being the Church. But, of course, the Church is made up of people. Therefore, all of us in the faith family are to be grounded in the Word and in constant self-examination to reform ourselves when we veer/stray. See you in worship! In Christ, Pastor Malcolm

Come and find your + 2 activity. Volunteering is good for you! It is a way to stay connected to our area community, and our church community. Together we will grow a stronger, more active congregation. Bring a friend or a neighbor and enjoy the many offerings and some special refreshments, too. By 2010 they had completed their training as missionaries and were on their way to Mozambique for the next five years to bring God s message to the Yao people.
